The start of an obsession

No matter what I post on here, nothing will top my adoration for J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. This series has truly changed me. So how did I come across my new love? By chance and what I like to believe is fate.

I went to the library to pick up an Anne Rice book that the catalog said was in stock, but when I got there it wasn’t where it should have been. So I just started looking through the book spines and waiting for something to grab me.

Wrath’s deep red Dark Lover cover screamed at me and I pulled it from the shelf. Never having been a romance fan, I shuddered at the thought of reading a vampire romance. I thought of all the cheesy cliches surrounding romance novels and thought, “Why would they want to ruin a vampire story with that crap!” I decided to try it though because it was about vampires (my favorite) and took it home.

Hours later I was no longer in my home but in Caldwell, NY due to J.R. Ward’s vivid location descriptions and detailed character creation. I felt immersed and connected to this story just chapters in. I couldn’t stand being there by myself though, I wanted to share it with my husband (who hated reading - notice I said hated not hates.) I asked him to let me read a few chapters and if he didn’t like it I would stop. I wanted him so desperately to be in this story with me. Something I hadn’t ever really felt before…strange really at the time.

Thankfully, he agreed. He lay in my lap and let me get through 3 chapters or so. He listened patiently and asked questions when he needed to. He wasn’t used to digesting anything except for online news and columns. He even ended up asking to take the book to work so he could read some more on his lunch. He was hooked too. He had been delivered to the BDB world with me. How exciting!

The rest has just been a crazy obsession with the BDB world, emotions, characters, and overall sense of commitment that J.R. Ward creates. My husband and I can spend hours talking about the narratives and what it would be like if the world really had people with such character in it. In all honestly the books have changed us, but I will save those details for another time.

I only hope that a few people out there have felt the same difference in their lives when they read a book.

These books are the hottest most delicious, erotic, thrilling and wickedly sexy books I have ever opened to read. They are about a brotherhood of 6 warrior vampires who were born and breed to protect the vampires from their enemies the lessening society. The books start out with the Blind King Wrath who is the only pure blooded vampire on the face of the earth. And he is a hot lover, warrior fighter, a smart male who mates with Beth and comes in to his own as King. Book 2 is about the brother Rhage who is so beautiful they call him Holliwood.Rhage has a curse on him but he finds a mate in Mary who is dying of cancer. 3rd book is about Zsadist who was a blood slave and he was the most savage one of the bunch who still bears the scars from his tormentor. He is my personal favorite. Z is so sad and alone he will break your heart. The next books about Phury and Tohrment and Vishous which are equally delicious. All the books are about a turf war, and love. Thay are set in Caldwell NY with is the battle ground for these thrilling, smart, lusty and oh yes funny stories, written by J R Ward who has to be the smartest writer of our time. There are more in the series, Butch the cop, Rehvenge who is a symphath. and John and Xhex. You will love each and every one of these books and end up wanting more.

It's a very good way to spend apx. 65 dollars! No matter the price, you will not be disappointed. This series is perfect for Vampire/Paranormal Romance/Horror lovers. It's full of action, suspense and romance, what's not to love? I would give this for a giftt in an instant and if I was the one to have gotten this as a gift, I'd be thrilled. J.R Ward knows hows to write a amazing story. She can write a mans mind like no other, and makes you believe the males perspective of the story more than any other I've read. She's brilliant and a great part of the Paranormal Realm. I cannot wait to read Lover Mine. John's story if going to be an amazing story, I cannot wait to read it!
So, if you have yet to read this series...What's stopping you? You don't know what your missing!!!

Well... it took about a year and a half from buying the series to actually being able to finish the first book (after picking it up 3 times) and I had to admit I was kind of annoyed that I didn't like the book everytime I put it down I kept thinking "I cannot believe I spent $65 on this!" but that last time I read "Dark Lover" I was completely hooked.

The plot. I thought that the plot of all of these books were amazing! They were so fast paced, had so many twists and just seemed to get better and better with each book I finished, I ended up buying books 7-10 when I had just started on book 3 that's how hooked I was on this series.

The characters. I loved getting to know each of the main brothers through this box set, I have to admit when I read the first book I was completely confused about which brother was which but as I started to read more into the series and get to know each of the brothers through the books it became really obvious who each brother was. I thought that they were all written really well and I have become more attached to the them with each book I read.

Overall I thought that this would have to be some of the best money I have ever spent on books and it was definitely worth the money. I would highly reccomend checking out this series I don't think that you will regret it.

……..Warning this review contains spoilers and images……

J.R. Ward, aka The WARDen, has introduced us to a new realm of Vampires; while developing a series of intense novels that will take you to the deepest darkest place of despair and passion.

The series is read from many points of view, and I found it difficult to keep up at times; however, once you learn the characters you will find yourself yearning for them.

It is noted that I am biased to some of the characters and their points of views!!!! I have skimmed through the series at some points just to read about certain characters while ignoring other………… this leading up to my 4 star review...

Book One: Dark Lover

In my own personal opinion, Butch was the star of this book. He had the best lines and interactions with the other characters. I enjoyed reading of the bonding between him and the vampires more than Wrath’s and Beth’s happily ever after. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I enjoyed his attraction to Marissa; probably because I was imagining she was me…….you gets the idea....Butch has become a key component throughout the series and is still be written about while other characters are being ignored.

Book Two: Lover Eternal

The ending of Lover Eternal is one of WARDen’s best. I enjoyed being introduced to Bella and reading of her attraction to Zsadist; however, this is supposed to be Rhage and Mary’s story…. Once again I am showing favoritism of the characters… I can’t help it….

Book Three: Lover Awakened

Wow. It’s totally amazing in a shocking kind of way. This book goes out of the norm of what I usually read and has the best villain of the entire series. The only complaint I have is the role of Zsadist’s twin. Why did the WARDen do that? In my own personal opinion, Phury’s character growth is not good and he is a thorn in my side!!

Of course my Butch narrates a little...that is always special. He is stalking marissa in his escalade while dressed like a pimp! If only he would do a drive by in my neighborhood......

Book Four: Lover Revealed

This is my FAVORITE book of the series!! Yes, I am completely addicted to BUTCH and he is my FAVORITE!!! He is “mine” and I am only willing to share him with Marissa!!!!

The WARDen decides to have everyone obsessing over my Butch in this book. This includes the love of his life Marissa, some Pink look a like boucer, and his BFF Vishous! I see a recycled story here. Didn’t we just go through this with Bella, Zsadist, and Phury? Of course I can totally understand the attraction to him....uummkayyy....

Book Five: Lover Unbound

This book is just depressing!! Totally sad!!! Vishous is in love with Butch who’s in love with Marissa. Phury is in love with Bella who’s in love with Zsadist. Butch and Bella are made to feel completely uncomfortable throughout the book while Phury and Vishous are completey getting on my nerves. I am not laughing at any point in this read which ticks me off....I read for fun. I am afraid this is where a lot of her fans checked out!! Me being one of them…

Read my LONG RANTING REVIEW here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Book Six: Lover Enshrined

Read this book only for John, Qhuinn, and Blay.

Phury finds his happily ever after and is so boring the WARDen doesn’t care enough to write a good book for him…..yea… at this point I will only read books 1-4 for fun.....

Favorite Characters:

"What if I told you I had a fantasy?" Butch O'neal

"To Butch, Marissa was the unforgettable woman, the one he'd never had and never would but who nonetheless reached into the core of him."

Good god, his sex was....."It's gotten so....huge."
Butch barked out a laugh."You say the nicest things."

Butch's Obsessing Posse

Vishous

"Man, you had to wonder what kind of woman would tangle with a piece of work like the Reverend. Then again, Vishous was obviously getting laid, so those of kind females were out there". Butch

"We going to have trouble with you tonnight, Butch O'neal?"
He wished she'd stop saying his name. "Nah, I'm good"
Her eyes flashed with an erotic light. "Ohhhhh, I know that."
-Xhex and Butch

Bella and Zsadist

“I was dead until you found me, though I breath. I was sightless, though I could see, & then you came & I was awakened!" - Zsadist to Bella”
― J.R. Ward, Lover Awakened

"Bella was staring, and it had to stop. Except she couldn't help herself. Zsadist was the only thing she could see."

Warning: CONTAINS SPOILERS!

These books are wonderful. I have devoured each book ravenously from cover to cover. The moment a new one came out, I would take a trip to the book store and grab a copy. These books are not about twinkling-in-the-sun vampires and pubescent werewolves. Oh no. These vampires are powerful, one hundred percent mature, and sexy as hell. The Black Dagger Brotherhood is a race of warrior vampires who are caught in a vicious battle with the lessers, a race of impotent, baby-powder smelling vampire slayers. Though they are busy kicking some hardcore ass, the BDB still manages to find time to find love -- and perhaps more importantly, MAGNIFICENT SEX!!!! Each book tells the story of one brother.

Dark Lover starts the series off with the story of the last pureblood vampire on the planet and the blind king of the vampire race, Wrath. Wrath falls hard for Beth, the half-breed daughter of his fallen comrade.

The second book, Lover Eternal, is about the drop dead gorgeous Rhage -- called Hollywood by his brothers because of his movie star good looks -- and his relationship with the terminally ill Mary. Their relationship gets off to a rocky start. Mary, who sees herself as plain on her best days, does not understand how the incredibly handsome Rhage could see anything in her, and Rhage mistakes her strength and pride for disdain. The final blow comes when Mary is re-diagnosed with cancer and Rhage is forced to say goodbye to her forever.

My personal favorite, Lover Awakened, is the story of the beautifully damaged Zsadist and the lovely Bella. The obstacles they must contend with are legion. Zsadist, a former blood slave, cannot stand to be touched, let alone embraced or held. It makes it difficult to form a meaningful relationship when touching your partner is a major taboo.

Book four, Lover Revealed, is all about Butch O'Neal, a human male who was 'adopted' by the Brothers and who has recently gone through the transition. He meets the ethereal Marissa and is immediately enthralled with her.

Lover Unbound is a bit wild, in a great way. Vishous, the son of the Scribe Virgin (the mother/creator of the vampire race) is a bi-sexual, BDSM sexual deviant. And my God, do I LOVE IT! Doc Jane is a fiercely independent woman who takes him on a journey of pleasure and pain that leaves him -- and the reader -- panting for more. Delectable.

There are six more of these delightful books, not counting the Black Dagger Brotherhood Insider's Guide, which has a wonderful novella about Zsadist and Bella in their new roles as parents.

The most recent book in the series, Lover at Last, is slightly different from the other books in that it is the story of Quinn and Blaylock, both two males. Don't let that scare you or turn you off, though because I will tell you right now it is just as sexy and alluring as all the other books.

I highly recommend these books to anyone who loves vampires, romance, action, and hot and steamy sex! Five stars all around.

Whoooo sexy sexy! It takes a lot to shock me, and I'm definitely not the type to read romance novels (snooze!) But this story GOES places man, and the erotica stretches the imagination. I mean, scorpion venom lingerie? wow. who would've thought of that! I have to at least give it to the author that this sensual paranormal series is beyond imaginative!
Can't count the number of times I was fanning my face while turning the next page. ha

Wow, these are literary crack. I usually can't stand romance novels but these were a lot of fun and wickedly delicious. I really enjoyed them and they flew past. I should include a warning to all my friends, they contain explicit sexual content and lots of language.

02/03/17 I just finished reading DL for the second time and it was as amazing as the first time. Although it was somewhat easier to follow seeing as I already know a lot of the story. Amazing characters and world development. Writing is awesome and the story plot is unique and intriguing. Love it! Off to read book 2 now.

02/06/17 This was my second time reading Lover Eternal and I love this book and the whole series. Rhage and Mary are an amazing pair and I can't wait to read what J. R. brings us next in the BDB world.

02/22/17 This was my second time to read this book and I still love it. Call me crazy but, I love the stories where a tortured soul finds that one person that brings them back to life and Zsadist is just that type. He's got a tortured soul and only survives day to day. He doesn't really live and the life he does lead is mostly empty until he sets eyes on Bella. She awakens things in him that scare him only because they are so foreign to him. He's never felt any of the emotions that being around her causes. However, Bella is a loving woman with a pure soul and she sees what is buried so deeply in him that even he doesn't know it's there. She sees his fear, his self-loathing, his disgust with him self. After the torture she receives at the hands of her kidnapper she knows that Zsadist is the only male who will ever understand her but, that's not what draws her to him. She's been drawn to him every since the first time he scared the crap out of her in the brotherhood's gym. Even though he scared her so deeply, she felt something even deeper, attraction. Even with his black eyes, scarred face, his dark persona and his deadly skills she still wants him. The two together make an amazing pair. He is the strength she needs and she is the light he needs to brighten not only his life but his soul as well. I think they are my favorite couple. Well done, J. R.!

As for the Lessers, I don't really like them and as bad as this will sound I actually skipped over the bigger portion of their parts the second time around.

03/12/17 Love this story. Butch and Marissa are an awesome couple. Their story made me cry, laugh, scream, and at times it made me feel the urge to through my ipad across the room. This is my second time reading this book and it got to me even more than the first time. I'll definitely be reading this one again in the future.

03/13/17 Love. It's the first word that comes to mind when I think of this story. J.R. brings to life a story of love and sacrifice, sorrow and joy, light and dark, life and death that's so emotional you get the feeling of being on a rollercoaster that never stops. Vishous and Jane are an amazing couple and I truly hope I get to hear more of their story. I love how throughout each story you don't just get the main couple but mainly other subplots within each book. In this one you hear about John Matthew, Butch and Marissa, Z and Bella, as well as V and Jane. You also learn more about The chosen and the Scribe Virgin. The past of the Scribe Virgin that is brought to light in this story was really unexpected as was the surprise she reveals at the end. I'm glad that V is willing to repay the sacrifice that was made for him and I hope that the Scribe Virgin really does find some peace in the future. Well done, J.R.!

03/15/18 (Lover Enshrined - First Read)
Holy Crap!!!! What a tremendous story. Admittedly, it's long and took a while for me to read the whole thing, and I might have skimmed over the parts that dealt with the Lessers (mainly because I can't stand those ghost faced freaks), but I couldn't get enough. This is an amazing addition to the BDB series.

Phury, twin brother of Zhadist, is a truly tortured soul. His sadness and low self-worth have led him down a path, straight into the arms of drug addiction. He has spent his life worrying about others to the detriment of his own health and well being. He is at his lowest point in this book. He worries for the Brotherhood, His Brother, Bella (his brother's pregnant shellan), their unborn child, the duties resting on his shoulders as the Primale, and the fate of the entire race as a whole. Understably, he has a lot on his plate and feels the weight of it all. A weight he tries to dull with drugs and liquor. Throughout his stupor he meets and falls in love with the Chosen, Cormia. Although, it takes him a very long time to realize how much.

Cormia, a Chosen Female of the Scribe Virgin, has spent the last five months at the mansion with the brotherhood. Sleeping in a room next to the Primale, Phury. A room that seperates by only a single wall. Her desires and wants are awakened and she has to deal with the guilt that as a Chosen she is one of many and is not supposed to feel or want the things she does. Like the fact that she does not want to share Phury with her Sister, as tradition requires. Through her journey of self-discovery, she realizes that as she has fallen in love with him she can never bring herself to share him, even if the fate of her whole race depends on it. Cormia made a few friends in the mansion. Like Bella and John Matthew.

John Matthew is the second child and son of the fallen brother , Darius. He is the younger brother of the Queen, Beth. He's recently gone through his transition and feels lost and incomplete, as he is still dealing with the scars of the attack he suffered at a younger age. He is also feeling lost without his adopted father, Tohrment, who disappeared after his Shellen(mate) Wellsie was murdered by the Lessening Society. He has many trials that he too has to face throughout the story, but luckily for him, he has his two buddies, Qhuinn and Blaylock, by his side.

Qhuinn, is the second son and a Glymera family, a family of the aristocracy. A family that believes that deficiency or differences mean you are cursed. Being the second son he is already cursed with a stigmatism. Being colored blind and having two different colored eyes means he has been shunned by and shut out of his family his whole life. Forced to hide from the world because his family didn't want him or his 'deficiencies' to tarnish their family name. He is hot-headed, and spends way to much time with the ladies and consuming booze. He usually always with John Matthew and Blay.

Blaylock is also a son of the aristocracy. However, his family is not stuck up like Qhuinn's family. Instead they welcome and love Qhuinn with open arms and whole hearts. He's a great friend to both John and Q. He's also in love with his best friend, Qhuinn.

All three boys are members of the trainee class for the Brotherhood.

Also, in this book you get to hear more about Z and Bella. Love Zhadist. He's my favorite brother.

With the exception of the first book in this series, it reads like badly written fan fiction, which is somewhat ironic considering JR Ward's stance on fan fiction. The series contains massive plot holes, an over-the-top colloquial writing style, and predictable plots. Also, the author has no conception of how to use a question mark--not to mention the British vernacular used by people living in upstate New York. I'll just mention the irritating use of the word "loo" by a native New Yorker for example.

A better editor would be a welcome addition in future books...

I found the number of times that this author used abusive and at times shockingly brutal scenarios to draw out an anemic plot utterly disgusting. That said, there were shining moments of creativity that almost managed to pull this series from the miry depths of "I can't believe I wasted my time reading this"...almost.

I suppose if I can admit to having read Charlaine Harris' Sookie books, I have to cop to these as well. Though I started out with no expectations of reading the whole series, I found I was too intrigued and engaged to stop. Second surprise was that it wasn't the "romance" that kept me reading. The author's inventive modern vernacular and the witty dialog exchange between the characters became the joy the kept the pages flying. Now add a great story arc wherein the characters' complexities are exposed and explored while they strive against more than a single adversary and viola; the dishes went unwashed, the laundry went unsorted, and the floors gathered dust until there were no more pages to turn.

Good series. Characters are great, you get to feel connected and plenty of good fighting. 4 stars only because each story had the same kind of predictability outcome. But each brother has their own battles to over come so that helps keep you interested along with their world within our world and try to stay hidden.

Re-reading a series you love is very satisfying. Not only do you get to visit chracters you care for and are invested in, but you understand their world on a deeper level.
Ward has made a world rich with drama, aggression, sensuality and love. Although I have some library books verging on late charges, I feel the need to burn through the BDB before returning to my regularly scheduled program.

J. R. Ward has reinvented the vampire novel with the introduction of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. An enjoyable new take on the vampire lore; where vampires are the hero-types and not necessarily the bad guys, where vampires are born not made and where vampires have to feed off each other to survive. The actual "bad guys" are the vampire hunters, the lessers, who were once human, but gave up their souls to join the Lessenig Society.
DARK LOVER, has a strong cast of likable characters that are well developed and unique. Wrath, the reluctant King of Vampires and intimidating lead warrior of the Brotherhood (he's 6 foot 9 inches tall).. manages to be alluring, tortured, and a completely sweet and sympathetic character. Ward is able to strike a nice balance, making Wrath sensitive and dangerous without crossing the lines into winey or sociopathic. Beth, the heroine is a strong independent woman, who gives as good as she gets. She finds her self emerged in the the dangerous and seemingly unreal word of vampires when Wrath is sworn to protect her. Although this story mainly revolves around the trails and tribulations of Wrath and Beth's story/romance, there are several other members of the Brotherhood; all very colorful and intriguing, not to mention scandalous and even in one case, cursed.. and I'm excited to more of their story in continuing on with the series.

Loved the continuation of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, in book #2, LOVER ETERNAL. J.R. Ward delivers, doing a beautiful job ensnaring the reader with Rhage and Mary's moving story.. which I felt was even more captivating then Wrath and Beth's, in DARK LOVER. Rhage was such an unexpectedly appealing character, much deeper then the shallow thug he came off as in the first book. Mary is absolutely delightful and strong and heartbreaking all at once. Ward also gives a taste of the intimidating and scared Zsadist's story.. not all of it, but enough to entice; promising that he will play a big part in the next book. LOVER ETERNAL introduces a few new supporting characters, one being the young John Matthew, who I found extremely interesting and look forward to more about him as his character develops more deeply.
Readers wont be disappointed as they continue on in this vivid world of vampires, lessers, action, loyalty, honor and romance. The complexity of characters (all with their unique and individual voice) combined with the unpredictable plots, is proving to make the Black Dagger Brotherhood series one that's not to be missed.

LOVER AWAKENED, the third volume of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series was my favorite so far. Although I did really enjoy Rahge and Mary's romance in book #2.. Zsadist's devastatingly traumatic story was so beyond heart wrenching, it was captivating from the start. For me, the twin's relationship and history is the star of this beat of the saga. Zsadist is such a well developed and complete character, that even though the likeable Bella and Phury contributed to his story quite a bit; the tortured hero is a strong enough character that he could easily stand on his own.
Although this was darkest of the series so far, Ward does a great job lighting the mood with some fun moments between Butch and Vishous, that help break up extensive despondency.
Also, Tohrment and his beloved Wellsie get some face time in LOVER AWAKENED, as they add young John Matthews to their family. I'm super intrigued with John, unable to get enough of him, interested to follow as he goes through the transition.
Making the biggest impact overall, LOVER AWAKENED definitely wont disappoint!.

I really loved the character development of Butch and Marissa and J. R. Ward brought their story to life in LOVER REVEALED, Black Dagger Brotherhood book #4. Butch's connection to the Brothers and to V in particular, was entirely unique from the others. His being human gave a look at their world through a whole different perspective. Butch is so completely likable, you cant help but root for him, from beginning till end. There is also a definite delicious focus on Vishous in this book and a clear setup that we will get to know him even more deeply in the next.

Although Zsadist's story in LOVER AWAKENED is holding strong as my favorite of the Black Dagger Brotherhood novels, I thoroughly loved LOVER REVEALED and commend Ward on such formidable writing.. and anticipate that she will continue to show her worth.

LOVER UNBOUND book 5 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood was not my favorite. Although my issue wasn't with Vicious, even though this was his story. I have really like Vicious through out the series so far.. finding his sense of humor hilarious and his care for Butch touching. I was terribly disappointed in how his story ended.. it felt forced.

I was happy that there was quite a bit less of the lessers.. it was a well welcomed brake. I find myself reading hastily through the details of their stories, just to get quickly back to more of the Brothers.
I loved the increased focus on John Matthew as he has been one I've really enjoyed following in each novel as his character has grown and developed. I'm excited to see how his story is moved further along in the next book. There were some great setups for him, as there were for Phury and his future.
LOVER UNBOUND also gave a deeper incite into the Scribe Virgin and brought forth a new character Pain, the SV's daughter... which promises to create quite a stir in the next book.

LOVER ENSHRINED the 6th novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood is much more plot driven then the previous BDB, not to mention overflowing with subplots. I really enjoyed the story lines that revolved around the younger crowd. John Matthew and his friends Blaylock and Qhuinn are a huge and fantastic part of this 6th book, and there are some big twist regarding Lash. Rehvenge and his secrets play a much larger role in this story and we get little glimpse into Xhex's life. Ward definitely leaves the reader wanting more when it comes to the above characters.
Now for the main plot.. Phury and Cormia, this is were I had a problem... actually mostly my issue was with Phury. He just seemed like a completely different Pury then the guy he was in the previous books. I guess some of his personality change had to do with his excessive drug use hitting rock bottom, but it just felt like it happened over night. For me, that was what I struggled with while reading this book.. not so much all that went on between him and Cormia, but Phury's personality and how he dealt with everyone in his life.
LOVER ENSHRINED ended great and really set the reader up for the next book. Looks like there is still a lot of twist to come and I'm excited to dive in to LOVER AVENGED.

Ward definitely didn't disappoint with LOVER AVENGED, book 7 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.. it is absolutely fantastic! Rehvenge is without question my favorite character of the series. He proves to be such a complex and multifaceted character, as he struggles to control his symphath side as it battles his vampire side. Rehv's internal fight between good and evil is captivating and his self-sacrifice is touching as he repeatedly suffers to protect the ones he cares about. Along with Rehvenge and Ehlena's story, there is quite a bit going on in the sub-plots.
Most of the characters have some face time in LOVER AVENGED, with key story line developments for John, Tohr, Xhex, Lash and Wrath with a tiny more taste of Payne.
After the letdown of previous book with Phury's story in LOVER ENSHRINED, I was concerned that the series was headed down hill.. but was thrilled to find that Ward has brought back the fire with this one and am looking forward to the next.

Black Dagger Brotherhood
Book 1
Omg. Everyone u every talk to raves about this series. I now totally understand. Story is amazing the world the writer creates is amazing and u can't help but be sucked in the life of the characters. Their are things I struggle with like names of characters and words in old language used. I STRONGLY advise to read quick glossary first before u jump into it. I did quick read or even skip bit to do with the baddy just because he creep me out so much. Totally worth more stars. Great story and amazing HEA LOVED IT.

Book 2
When u first meet Rhage he's a slut and a brawler. He looks like brad Pitt and sleeps around like on a pornstar set. U only see glimpse of the guy under all that every now n then. After he meets Mary after bringing John into the brotherhood homes. He become infatuated with her and they begin a very complicated and a little weird relationship. Rhage story made my heart clench and break at times through book especially when Scribe Virgin got involved because she alway wants a sacrifice and its alway a soul destroying type. Loved the new side of Zsadist and his budding possible romance with Bella. Great HEA

Book 3
LOVED IT. this has to be my favourite. Ever since meeting Zsadist I liked him, he's damage with huge insecurities. When he meets Bella a lot of his past come to haunt him but with Bella and his brothers he becomes part of the man he was always suppose to be. Devastating things happen to the brothers in this book, deaths and brake ups. Great story and HEA.

Book 4
Amazing. This series just gets better and better. A lot of heartache and upset in this book with a lot of different characters. Rehv makes more of an appearance and V has major melt down. Love the ending HEA was perfect.

Book 5
I loved this book just like all the others. Loved how each character had a part in book. Especially JM Q and B all went through the changed and came out stronger and closer. Z has become a great teacher and mentor to JM. When I read the reviews for book part of me wanted to skip becos of the suggestion of a bad HEA. I'm glad I didn't becos a lot happens for other characters and a lot gets explained for SV BUT this doesn't finish how I would like. The stars are purely from the not so HEA for V and Jane. I did not like it but I'll carry on with series and see what JRW does next.

Book 6
I did love this book but the reason for the low rating was becos I got so sick of Phury and Cormia. the story was alway up and down and he messed her about so much I lost interest with it. I did love all the bits about other characters, that made up for the P&C story. A lot happens and it's a great story, liked how the slayers are in it as much as the other books. This one more about friends and family.

I find this series to be quite good. I enjoyed every last bit of detail about the Brothers. The first in the series was Dark Lover and was about Wrath who becomes the future king. He is a pure blooded vampire who falls for Darius' daughter Beth. She had no idea who she was until Wrath was asked to protect her through her transition. These vampires didn't drink the blood of humans either. They have either their mates or what they call The Chosen who lived somewhere Out there . I don't remember if they were in the Fade but they are the Scribe Virgins creations and they are all female . The Scribe Virgin is their mother.

Lover Eternal is about Rhage. He's a peculiar one with a curse. When he gets mad he becomes a type of godzilla , ferocious beast. He has a tattoo on his back like a serpent that actually moves , creepy. He becomes attached to Mary Luce. Mary is just an ordinary female and does not possess any vampire in her, except she died once and apparently that is honorable. They call that a Wahlker. Her cancer comes back but she was allowed a gift of life from the Scribe Virgin .

Lover Awakened is Zsadists story. He was taken away as an infant and becomes a blood slave . His twin , Phury, went in search for him and rescues him . He falls for Bella, Rehvenges sister, and gets kidnapped by Lessers. I must mention these are Romance novels so you can imagine every book contains passion, lust and lots of sex .

Lover Revealed is the book about Butch. He's the civilian cop who becomes a vampire by a revelation . We find out that his mother had sex with ... a surgeon? when she was stranded inside a hospital. I take it that is how Butch was part vampire. Butch was made a Brother but he also was the Dehstroyer.

The Prophecy
There shall be one to bring the end before the master,a fighter of modern time found in the seventh of the twentyfirst.and he shall be known in the numbers he bears: One more than the compass he apperceives,...pg 389-390

So...he loved Marissa.

Lover Unbound is about Vishous. He was Butch's friend but had a 'gay' thing going on . He also bore a curse and a blessing. He was the Scribe Virgins real son and the proof was in his hand . His hand was a weapon that could heal and destroy. However, he was the other side of the Dehstroyer. That is how they got  along so well. Whenever Butch killed a Lesser only Vishous could get the evil to disappear . Dr. Jane Whitcomb becomes his Shellan but their love was shortlived because she ends up dead. Out of the kindness of The Scribe Virgins heart she brings them back together .....

Lover Enshrined is Phury's book. Cormia and Phury's relationship just frustrates me. Cormia is a chosen and Phury volunteers himself as Primale. UGH!.

In Lover Avenged we learn more about Rehvenges story. He was part Symphath and an aristocratic vampire of the glymera. He falls in love with Ehlena .

Lover Mine was the first book I read and is mostly about John Matthew and Xhex. John Matthew is one of the most written about character. I don't know why. He was much of a distraction in all the books, nothing of importance other than being Darius' son who apparently is Darius. I suppose it was his muteness that made me not care for him . He seemed to be quite the manic depressive and a failure at all things .

Haven't read Lover Unleashed yet

Haven't read Lover Reborn yet

PS: I don't necessarily approve these . Maybe Wrath and Zsadist.

Erotic Rating: 4 points !!!!

This series was my own personal version of crack for a long time. I loved them!

If you like the supernatural, intense fore-play and well-written, detailed sex scenes, read these.
Ward has taken the stock vampire story and breathed new life into it. Totally HOT, firey life. In short: Vampires live among humans, they have their own society. They are warriors. They are fighting a common enemy. They are beefy and sexy. They do not feed on humans, they have to get their blood sustenance from each other, and it is a totally sexual process. GO!

Ward figured out a formula in this series, and it works. Each book focuses on a different character of the warrior Black Dagger Brotherhood, but the stories of all the characters are interwoven. Each character is different and has their own kink/idea of romance/style, etc. You will certainly find your favorite. By building her world this way, she keeps you invested in the lives of her characters and wanting to read more. It certainly worked for me. There are plenty to choose from! I didn’t get bored until about Book 14.

When I read books, I never skip ahead. I am not one of those people who wants to know then end before I get there. I just read and go with the story. With these books, however, I regularly found myself skipping forward to the next hot scene. The sexual tension she builds is fabulous! I would read forward, and then read again and again to thoroughly enjoy the encounter.

One more quick note….if the names of the characters make you roll your eyes, let it go. She crafted names to fir her world building. It is a detail that is well worth getting over. Focus on the important parts…like the story and the sex. Ok?!

This series is great. Ward is a quality writer and weaves an excellent story. Chances are, this series will keep you busy for quite a while. Enjoy!

Absolutely loved these books, kept me up for hours. Brilliant storylines. Loved the characters. Didn't enjoy reading about the lesser’s but think that's the point 😂 I found myself skipping through some of the lesser’s storylines because I didn't want to know what they were up to. 🙄😂 probably cause I'm too soft. Loved the love story’s wish there were more clips of the couples in the next books and so on. Felt like once the story’s we're over, didn't hear about them enough.
