This is a wonderful and comprehensive introduction, and a great reference for African American history. I would suggest it as a must-own for any student of, or individual interested in, African-American history. Why is this such a great anthology? Because it includes everything, all kinds of sources - "This anthology represents an attempt to bring together writings - meant in the largest sense to include fiction, autobiography, poetry, letters, journalism, songs, court decisions, documents, and manifestos - that reflect the African American experience of the last three centuries."
