Lingāyata is a person who practices what is preached in the Kannaḍa vachanas of Basavaṇṇa and his contemporaries of the twelfth century CE. But the practitioners of the faith at the time were not called Lingāyatas. The term Lingāyata came to be in use for these practitioners sometime more recently than the seventeenth century. Lingāyata wears a Linga (Ishṭalinga) on his or her body, and worships it on a daily basis. The Liṅgāyatas are monists, and practice Theistic Monism.Vachana is a rhythmic prose. This book contains the essence of what is in these vachanas. Kannaḍa is the language of the Lingāyata. The vachanas have been translated into English. The text and the descriptions are in English. The English vachanas and the texts bring out the philosophy and practice principles of the Lingāyata faith. This digital book does not have the Kannada vachanas. The vachanas in Kannada have been included in both the hard-cover and the soft-cover Lingāyata books. This book is a great asset to those wishing to understand the Lingāyata faith.
