This last book in the series took a real turn that I didn't like, and I was really disappointed - I hate investing in a series, getting 3-4 books in, and then the characters shifting into something stupid.
The bulk of the problem was Omen. The last book ended with him punching Sorsha in the temple and knocking her out. Here's the thing: I don't give a single flying fuck if he later changes his mind, he betrayed her. She has been a loyal teammate, fighting by his side for months, and without even a moment of conversation with the team, he betrays her, BEATS her, and chains her up.
I don't understand why this needs to be said, but authors, if you want your male lead character to be forgiven, don't have him do something unforgivable.
This breaks so fucking much about these characters. Particularly when Sorsha herself insta-forgives him, and behaves as if she's morphed into this horrific martyr/doormat person. How can the rest of the characters agree to let him lead after that? Oh, he did something terrible and betrayed a teammate, hurt her... but he changed his mind so back to business as usual, amirite?
Omen's actions violated everyone's trust, and should have shattered his team. They should have told him to fuck straight off when he came back and started giving orders as if he had any fucking right. They wobble a little, and then fall in line. Sorsha has sex with him like the next fucking day. It is gross.
Also, all the characters in this book are infected with an emo-whiny virus. I say virus because there was one point where I honestly thought hey, maybe the villain already did release the virus that will destroy shadowkind, and this is it: they destroy themselves through massive self-doubt and distraction. That's literally how sudden and random the change was. Literally every single main character in this book is suddenly overtaken by a tidal wave of self-doubt, and makes completely TSTL decisions as a result.
Bleh. Just bleh.
Another problem I have with this book: throughout the series, there's been ranting - particularly from Omen - about how bad humans are, like they are evil little vermin not to be trusted, and this Company of Light is just the latest example. That was always a little grating on me, because shadowkind were equally bad - they were even more reluctant to help than humans were, and also, nearly every person they interrogated in the Company had someone they love hurt by shadowkind. So why are just the humans bad? Then you find out that a shadowkind was behind everything, and also, oh yeah, it wasn't human hunters who killed Sorsha's parents, that was also shadowkind. Does ANYONE say ANYTHING about that? Nope. They just shrug it off and continue on, business as usual. How about we admit your side has at least as much potential for evil and we stop shitting on humans as if they are all, universally, the scum of the universe? Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, lots of the Company people hate shadowkind. Fine. But I can point to an equal number of shadowkind who hate humans, and Omen himself has been responsible for torturing and killing tons of them, according to him. So WTF? Can we have a single moment of enlightenment that stereotyping is bad, and only creates more problems? That humans and shadowkind are both made up of fucking individuals, and neither side should be treated like the lowest level of trash?
It really, really grated on me honestly.
I'm probably going to try another series from this author, to see if this is a chronic problem (shitting the bed on the last book) because until this point I really did very much like the series. Fingers crossed!

The Heroes: Ruse, Snap, Thorn and Omen - Ruse (the incubus), Snap (the devourer) and Thorn (the angel) are devoted to Sorsha. Omen seemed to be coming around, but is now wary of Shorsha’s powers.
The Story: Sorsha and her band of cohorts continue to work toward taking down “The Company”. Their job is made even more difficult when they find out who is pulling the strings behind The Company in Europe. Not to mention the fact that the Ancient Shadowkind Leviathan are determined to have Omen find Ruby for them and bring her in to be put to death.
As with the first three books, this one was told in multiple points a view and narrated by Aiden Snow and Vanessa Moyen. Both narrators have pleasant voices and did a great job. Though I liked the continuing storyline about Sorsha trying to harness her power and not let it get out of control. This book seemed to be just more of the same. I tend to think a trilogy is better than four books when they are about the same main characters.
Though I did like the way this book had the characters resolve some of the things from their pasts that had been weighing on each of them, like Thorn’s guilt over the war when so many of his people were killed, Ruse’s past relationship, Snap’s devourer power, and Omen’s past that kept him chained to the Ancients. So this book was still very worth it.

A so-so ending to a frustrating series. I couldn’t help feeling that, in spite of gaining a few love interests, Sorcha ended up giving up everything for a cause that felt as though it had all the emotional weight of a piece of paper.
Shadowkind, and the worlds they inhabit, were only described in these four books in the barest of senses. Two worlds, creatures who move through shadow, Higher beings and a mythology that at times aligns with heaven/hell/ Greek mythology...and yet...we found out so little about their world. How did they get into our world (yeah, rifts, but HOW?!). And does everyone know about them or only a few? Does shadowland have anything redeeming about it (it’s at one point described as cold/darkness and yet clearly there are opportunities for shadow people to interact and fight wars and have a whole culture/hierarchy. I want the DETAILS. I want to know HOW and WHY so that I actually care. So, World-building sucked.
But? I found I didn’t. Care, i mean. There wasn’t enough of anything in this series to really grab me. A thin plot premise that switched gears 100 percent in the last book. One dimensional characters who turned insecure / needy / possessive in the last book. A big bad who was boring and again, hastily planned out. ME CHAOS AND ME WREAK HAVOC RARRR!!
Ugh, I thought I’d like this book series after the first book, but my interest waned dramatically to the point I skimmed the last book.
More annoyances:
Sorcha’s stupid off-lyric singing. I didn’t get it 90% of the time and it distracted me. Not cute! Annoying.
“M’Lady?” Really? You’re gonna have one dude talk to Sorcha like she’s freaking gwenivere?
Saw the premise of sorcha’s super unsecret specialness pretty much right off. Derp.
These dudes names! Shut the front door...in their faces! Because they are awful: Snap, Thorn, Omen, Ruse. Oh my gosh. Just name them “Ehonda, Ryu, zangief” and call it done.
Oh, and, “Step into the light, Omen!”

This is an okay ending to the series. I liked that we finally saw Sorsha use her full powers and we had resolution with Tempest and The Company. I did feel like books three and four could be combined, both had a lot of filler.
I thought we may have a bit more romance overall in the series and we only got one scene with all the guys. I do love Snap, he's adorable and so sweet, and Ruse, who's more insecure than he seems and hesitant to love someone again. Thorn and Omen were okay characters but not my favorite guys. I also thought the ending didn't resolve all the way so I'm not sure if there's an opening for more or if the author just rushed it.
Overall a three star series for me. I'm glad I saw how it all ended and Sorsha was pretty funny.

Why did this series end!!!
My first time with this writer and I have to say this series hit it out of the park for me.
Was truly among I didn’t want it to end at all!!!!!
This is free on kindle (if that’s your thing)..
but I brought this whole series and it was worth every bit of money,..
The series isn't allowed to end!
What a great ending to this series. Just when you think you know where this book is headed, it changes direction again.
What a nice blend of romance, action and fantasy. there was plentiful development throughout the series. I actually feel a book funk coming on after reading this series. Truly amazing

This was a decent ending to wrap up the series. We finally learn what Sorsha is and what that means in the world. With Omen's ex-friend Tempest alive, well and behind the organization out to kill both Shadow kind and humans, the gang really has their work cut out for them. Doesn't help that Omen has been tasked with finding and taking out Ruby, who we learn is actually Sorsha's real name. After the way the last book ended, things pick up from there and I'm honestly still a little ticked off at Omen and his over reaction. What's worse is the heroine barely even blamed him and even tried to sacrifice herself a time or two.
The final 'battle' was OK, Sorsha took down the baddie like it was nothing which was fine and well but I hated that there was no real conclusion for the Highest, the beings that have Omen under their thumb. We're to believe they just slinked off never to be heard from again? Come on, I find that hard to believe. Regardless if they were proved wrong or not, beings like them do not give up or give in. I feel like leaving this thread lingering takes away some of the HEA because I just know that at some point they will be back to try and kill Sorsha, or at the very least they will send someone or someones to do it for them. Also why was Omen resistant to her fire but her dragon wasn't? Makes no sense and honestly every time she burned Pickle I wanted to hurt someone lol. Anyways I did enjoy the series overall. I think the topics were interesting, exciting and unique.

Wow, am I happy this series is over. The 3rd book in the series gave me hope for the finale. But nope, author resorted back to her ways of the first two books. And I found myself skimming and straight skipping whole paragraphs to reduce boredom.
While I am happy with the way it ended, I wasn't happy with the way events led up to that ending. So I was very meh afterwards. Which was very disappointing for me because as I said in previous reviews, this concept was so intriguing to me. While I've seen other reviews raving about this, it was just in the middle of my dislike to like meter. So three stars it is.

I started reading this series while I was sick and the fever must have addled my brain.
I'll never understand how my fever-brain managed to ignore the fact that the MC has the world's most annoying "quirk" (changing the lyrics of 80's tunes at ALL times to something "witty") and that one of the love interests kept referring to her as "M'lady" (insert fedora).
Lol I should have DNF:ed this but like a fool I kept hoping it would get better.

Nope! Omen ruined this for me. The way Sorsha instantly forgave him and actually apologized to him was just gross.

The ending of this series leaves me with mixed feelings. I listened to this book almost solely on audio and I did enjoy the dual narrators.
Why the mixed feelings? Well, this is the conclusion of the story of Sorcha and her foursome of "monsters" that was actually a trio before this book. The series concludes with the results of their attempts to end the Company of Light (the bad guys). Up until this book, Sorcha had really great relationships that had developed with each of her original trio (Snap, Ruse and Thorn). In book 2, Omen is introduced and honestly, he is a really big jerk. He does get better, yet the rhythm is interrupted and the dynamic has changed after his introduction. By book 3, Omen is making strides. He still behaves badly, but we are given glimpses into some of the whys and possibly some potential he may have for improvement. We see him softening towards Sorcha. Book 3 ends with a big cliffhanger and some pretty awful action by Omen towards Sorcha.
So, at the beginning of this book, it begins where we left off with the cliffhanger. Omen has hit Sorcha and has taken her somewhere and chained her to a bed. But, more importantly, he has betrayed her. She has absolutely no idea what is going on or why so at the beginning of this book, so she is obviously confused. First of all, not only has Omen done something that completely shocked the heck out of me, but he also went against his team. He may have had issues with Sorcha, but he KNEW that each man on his team was in love with the girl. We learn that they fought to stop him from taking her and he left with her (unconscious) without letting them know the reasons. So, in essence, he betrayed them as well.
Long story short, he had his reasons and he finally explains the whys to Sorcha. She magnanimously makes a sacrifice for Thorn and Omen which causes Omen to have an AHA moment and make his decision. This whole interlude was crazy. I could understand the concept, it's okay to tell us that his life is on the line. We understand that he REALLY doesn't like mortals and his relationship with Sorcha was never like the others. Maybe Ms. Chase wanted the opportunity to get these two alone. Who knows? He DIDN'T have to punch her and chain her up in a cave. That is not the way to get them to the next level.
After that, to me, the rhythm of the book was different. I can even kind of understand her forgiving him once she knew what was at stake for him- but sleeping with him the next day? That was a bit much. Having the men forgive him as well? That was a little harder because I can't ever see that happening. My gosh, he PUNCHED her and kidnapped her and they had no idea if was taking her to be killed. That is a pretty hard thing to get over. And this was done by the man you are supposed to respect and follow. So yeah. This book leaves me with mixed feelings.
If we can get past that little interlude, the rest of the book is okay. The introduction of the psycho was a little out there. She knew all along that it was Omen going after the Company of Light? Really, then how could she not know that he had been captured? It all seemed a little convenient. But, oh well. It was nice to get everyone back together at the end and the conclusion was satisfying and mostly tied up all of the loose ends.
I liked Sorcha as a character and I liked the growth that we saw from the guys. Would I read another series from this author? Yep, I think I would.

If we can get past that little interlude, the rest of the book is okay. The introduction of the psycho was a little out there. She knew all along that it was Omen going after the Company of Light? Really, then how could she not know that he had been captured? It all seemed a little convenient. But, oh well. It was nice to get everyone back together at the end and the conclusion was satisfying and mostly tied up all of the loose ends.
I liked Sorcha as a character and I liked the growth that we saw from the guys. Would I read another series from this author? Yep, I think I would.

I can not stand.
I couldn't finish the book.
It's so ridiculous that Sorcha and all the other assholes forgave the Omen after 3 sentences. HE NOR ASKED FOR FORGIVENESS. He beat, kidnapped, chained and betrayed EVERYONE. And the assholes start kissing his ass 5 seconds after he returns.
There wasn't anyone brave enough to tell him to fuck himself or give this garbage a good spanking. Something he's been deserving since the second book.
It's stupid. And offensive to those who are reading. How can you imagine and idealize a love relationship with such a disgusting man? I don't understand why there are so many positive reviews. Was this supposed to be a dark romance? I do not understand. Sorcha is a prideless bitch, even if she thinks she does, and all her men are useless chickens.

DNF @ 33%. I tried. I liked the series. Until Omen fucked everything up in this book and the way it was handled was just so UGH. This has been sitting in my currently reading for four months and I just have no interest in finishing it.

Dark Champion is the fourth and final book in the Flirting with Monsters series and it was amazeballs. I have read quite a few of Eva's series and I have to say that Flirting with Monsters is one of my favorites. I love the series so much and Dark Champion was the perfect conclusion to the story.
So much has happened to Sorsha throughout the entire series, she has changed a lot. She went from helping shadowkind on a small scale to uncovering a nefarious plot that would hurt human and shadowkind alike but she doesn't pass off the problem on to someone else, Sorsha fights, she fights for what is right and she is pretty good at it and I love that she was a human holding her own with supernaturals. Then she finds crucial information about herself that totally upends her world but she keeps going keep fight, she deals with it with the help of her shadowkind and that is really admiral.
One of the things that I noticed is that in this story you can see the different frames of mind between the supernatural and humans. During the entire series, I had a distinct realization that the guys weren't human, they didn't think or feel like a human would and that was really trippy but in a good way. I love the guys and how they care for Sorsha. She gives them a new way to look at things and she supports them while they show her all the love and care they can. They also support her in whatever she tries to do and believes she can do anything. Their relationship has hit a couple of hard spots but I can see the growth between them through the entire series and I loved all the guys but Snap, he is my favorite.
The entire story was original and the writing flowed very smoothly. I loved the idea that Sorsha and her guys weren't black and white, they were morally gray. Sorsha was a thief (a Robin Hood type), there was a human basis, and people did die but the overall story about differences and tolerance was very clear, that differences don't have to separate people. Another thing I loved about this series was the varying type of supernaturals represented, the magic, the evil plot that was trying to bring about the apocalypse, and all the travel was really great.
Flirting with Monsters is a fabulous series and Dark Champion was the best conclusion I could have wished for the series. Dark Champion wrapped up things very well, my questions were answered, the big show-off happened, I got an even better definition of Sorsha's relationship with the for and it did end in a HEA. I loved every single second of Dark Champion, I am gonna miss Sorsha and the gang (guys and friends included), if there is any way for more Sorsha adventures I wouldn't be mad about it.

Ok so this was more slow paced than I would have liked it to be and the ending was kind of anticlimactic? Or just, not so very satisfying to say the least even if it did have a sweet happy ending. I had to struggle a bit to even read through two thirds of the story because I really didn't want to dnf it, it was just too boring. Idk, maybe I was starting to loose interest in the story as the books went on. I definitely loved book 1 and 2, especially 2 because they where the most funniest AND action packed out of all four of them. Anyway, I don't regret reading this series.
(P.S. for those who's read the acator series by Sarah. J. Maas, or at least the novel. Umm you might find a particular "spice in the air" scene in this book too. Yeah it was the first for me because haven't read them so now I know at least a fraction of what went on there. :) )

Oh my goodness! This series conclusion is absolutely perfect! We see Sorsha and her Monsters take down the baddies and find their happily ever after! The guys get to put to rest some issues that were lingering from their pasts and reading their point of views just makes you fall for them even more. I loved seeing the true devotion and emotional depths that this group dynamic contained. They made this work even with all of their vastly different personalities. No relationship is perfect and having to please several guys could easily daunt any woman. Sorsha proves that she's up for any adventure or challenge her men could throw her way. This is one entertaining series that you'll find hilarious and heartwarming!

Wow! What a great ending to this series. Just when you think you know where this book is headed, it changes direction again. Sorsha and her friends must work together to save both worlds. The intense suspense really keeps you on the edge of your seat. I found it hard to put this book down. Don’t miss this one.

In this the final book of the series Sorscha and her company of misfits have a lot on their plate. Not only do they have to battle supernatural enemies but humans too.
This book is action packed from beginning to end and I just loved all of the different POVs.
As always I absolutely loved both of the narrators.... it makes this book and series come alive.

Wow, the last book in the series! Did it live up to the build. Well, yes and no.
The last book was also about the guys coming to accept their monster self and then reaccepting the love they have and give.
It also had a bad arse campervan that sounds like so much fun. Action, thrill, and smutty smut woohoo, it's hot, smut!
Written in a way, I fell into the world with little rebuilding needed. Yes, I'm gonna miss these characters 😢

What a highly enjoyable series! Sorsha and her shadow lovers Snap, Ruse, Thorn and Omen, all show tremendous growth and courage in facing down both their own truths and the enemies of their past and presents to an epic conclusion. Great read!
