Is this book an anthology cherished by musings from the author's mind? Is this flash fiction? Is this a collection of stories? Is this a biography enmeshed with anecdotes from the author's life? These thoughts will go through the reader's mind if you blindly start reading this book, just like I did. The blurb says that it is a collection of microfiction stories. But I think it is much more than that and might be an amalgamation of a few traits from all the above to make a compendium close to reality.

I generally give only short reviews for small books. But this one requires an in-depth one. The author beautifully goes through all phases of life in a span of just 50 pages. That is something remarkable as far as literature is concerned, as it is extremely difficult to convey the complex principles of life using very few words in simple language. Aakanksha Jain perfectly achieves that feat with ease through this creation.

The author discusses childhood, family, the world of introverts, love, marriage, infidelity, betrayal, break up, hope, hopelessness, dreams, COVID-19, long-distance relationships, toxic relationships, trauma, karma, suicide, murder, death, and many other topics

What I learned from this book
1) Do introverts prefer being alone because they are afraid of others or because they enjoy the bliss of solitude?
I have mentioned about this topic in the review of a book by Lana Moore. To answer the above question, we should first know the difference between loneliness and solitude. Loneliness and solitude can never be called the same thing. Loneliness is commonly followed by feelings of emptiness and unwantedness. The feeling of loneliness can affect your mental health, which can, in turn, affect your physical health.

Solitude, on the other hand, is a choice of the individual to be alone. They are solitary by choice and enjoy being alone, unlike loneliness.

If we closely observe history, we can see that many great scientists, authors, and philosophers enjoyed the bliss of solitude. It is this solitude that helped them to freshen their mind and make them sharper.

So, in short, loneliness is negatively charged, while the aloneness in solitude is positively charged. The problem is that these words are too often used interchangeably in different countries and cultures. Hence, people often get confused and think that introverts are people who are afraid of being alone.

Real introverts are said to enjoy being alone to contemplate deeply about various aspects of life. But being afraid of others can also make a person introvert.

Due to the intermixing of these characters and various interpretations of an introvert, both types of people are now considered introverts. The author talks about this aspect in this book.

"He looked up and saw himself talking again in front of the mirror."

"I don't have many friends due to my introverted nature."

2) Is it better to marry someone similar to you or entirely different from you?
This is a tricky question people have been asking for centuries. It isn't easy to give an answer to the above question as the answer can vary between individuals according to their personality.

Some say that if we marry people with similar mental frequency and preferences, there is a high chance of developing ego between them, which can cause marital disharmony. When we marry a person polar opposite to our personality, there is a high chance that they won't understand our situation, which in turn again causes marital problems.

I have seen some people using physics to define relationships. They say that like poles repel and unlike poles attract. So it is better to have people with entirely different personalities as our life partners rather than causing repulsion in the later part of life. According to Physics, it might be correct. But according to Mental Health, Medicine, and family dynamics, we can't fully accept the above school of thought.

If we look into nature, we can see that everything in it prefers the companionship of similar individuals (just like similar birds flocking together).

Various Medical studies were also conducted on this topic, and most concluded that marriage between people with similar personality traits is the best option.

Some say that getting a partner who is the mirror image of our personality is better for better marital prospects.

Whatever the answer to the above question, an overlapping middle ground is inevitable to enjoy the companionship of each other.

If you are a person with adequate wisdom and a progressive mindset, none of the above matters as boundaries of caste, religion, culture, language, skin color, and everything else become obsolete as you will have the mental capacity and character to have a healthy relationship with anyone.

The author discusses the relationship between personality and marriage in this book.
"They were poles apart but fell in love, got married, and saw beautiful and bad days. They say with time, love grows deeply but not for them."

3) What is the biggest pain a human being will have to face in their life?
I once read somewhere that betrayal by our partner, whom we trust the most, is the biggest pain a human being will have to face in their life. This pain can peak to its maximum if your partner cheats you with your closest friend. The author is discussing such a situation in this book.
“I tried to make some friends; I even got a best friend. I shared every detail of my life and trusted her. She seemed nice until she stole the dear person I love - the friendship ended."

My favourite three lines from this book
"But now, whenever it rains, all I think about is your broken promises. I used to love the thing that makes me sick today because of you."

"They came into your life like a fresh breeze, and talked to you for hours. Then one day, they start getting distant... leave you alone."

"That car crushed my legs but not my spirit, optimistic attitude, and willingness to stand and walk again, he said with a smile."

What could have been better?
The biggest negative that some readers find in this book is that we will finish reading it quickly after we start reading it. It is also the biggest positive of this book if we look from another perspective, especially for readers like me who like reading smaller books.

Most of the ideas that profoundly influenced my life were obtained from similar small books. Even though we can quickly finish reading this book, the concepts discussed in it might push you into contemplation mode for many days due to the deeper meanings embedded in it.

Rating
4/5 This book proves the proverb, "Big things come in small packages" correct. Even though this book is small in size, it has a lot of wisdom in it and can have a significant positive impact on your life.

In a Nutshell: A decent micro-fiction anthology. Not too memorable for me.

This is a collection of forty micro-fiction stories. The word ‘stories’ is to be applied carefully when it comes to micro-fiction as the writing style is very different from the traditional story format. The stories in this anthology, for instance, are each written in fifty words or less. As such, the reading experience is highly dependent on the talent of the author to create magic within word-count boundaries. Sadly, this collection didn’t create much magic for me.

Very few of the forty tales herein can actually be called stories; most are reflections, as indicated by the title. So this is more like a collection of thoughts than a collection of plots. A couple of the tales are like traditional stories, but most were just introspective scenes. Now you might wonder why I expect a proper story in such a tiny fictional format, but having read Chasing Nirvana and One Hundred: Words / Days / Stories, I know it can be done with great impact.

As I am a regular reader of stories of all lengths (drabble, micro fiction, flash fiction, short fiction, novellas, novels, epic tomes…), a book has to work that much harder to surprise me. While I didn't dislike any of the stories, I also wasn't wowed by any of them. None of the stories in this collection took me by surprise. All generated a feeling of ‘I’ve read this somewhere before.’ Of course, this might not be the case for every reader. Those who aren’t familiar with flash fiction might be more surprised by this book.

On the pro side, this is a very quick read. It will take you hardly fifteen minutes to complete.

There are some typos, especially in the second half. A round of proofreading will help.

Basically, a decent book. However, after I turned the last page, I didn't remember more than a couple of the tales, so definitely no long term impact for me. Recommended if you are a newbie to flash fiction and want to try out a new indie author.

2 stars.

Reflection by Aakanksha Jain is an anthology of short stories.

First, let me thank the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

My Synopsis and Opinions:
Okay, this was one of the strangest books I have ever read....but I'm not saying it was bad.  It's just that I have never read anything in this form before.  It was definitely a fast read, and somewhat entertaining (if a little bleak).

Each entry feels more like poetry than a story, basically a well-formed thought, hence the title.  The author describes the collection as "microfiction" stories, each less than 50 words, and all based on day-to-day issues (although not my day-to-day).  For some reason the topics all seemed to have a rather dark and sad underlying issue.

Note that I didn't dislike any of the stories...they left me a little perplexed, and wanting most to continue, so perhaps they did their job, but....I don't like to be left hanging.

On a final thought, it could have used a little more proof-reading.

Dark Reflections

An interesting quick read. 40 mico stories, each one 50 words or less. Most of the stories have a very dark edge to them. I would be interested to read more of this authors work with longer stories.

To the Author -

Honest Review -

Started off the book thinking it’s dark and weird.

Somewhere in the early pages started feeling intriguing. You have introduced me to a new kind of stories. Miniature stories. This can make people read again when everyone is addicted to short reels.

Its amazing how you can give “Woah” moments in stories that are half a page.

Your stories hits differently as per mood and again it’s amazing how a few lines can hit so deep

Red two times.

Started the book feeling dark but ended with wanting a 1000 pages more.

You should write more. You don’t have the ability to write boring books. Thanks for your writing🙌🏻🙏🏻

"After reading, I got a good feeling."

If you think Reflection is just another collection of short fiction stories, you're mistaken. This book has it all, from horror to thriller, drama to comedy, and emotions to humour. This would be my last book review for the year 2022, and I am really feeling great that I chose to review it. Also, with some of the stories, I felt personally connected. Without a doubt, one of the best books of the year.

Definitely a 5-star book. However, the numbers are insufficient to adequately describe the book.

This is a slim collection of microfiction, mostly about relationships. Some of them seem almost like poetry while others are very short stories, complete with the O. Henry twist ending.

I recommend it, especially for those who want a short read.

Reflection is a collection of microfiction stories. I personally love microfiction, I think it takes extreme talent for an author to be able to do it well, especially because of how powerful the story needs to be. I think Jain has potential and Reflection is a testament to that. I enjoyed this very quick read and I think it's good but I think Jain could do better. Having said that I can't wait to read her next book especially if she continues to strengthen her craft through microfiction. I wish the author fixed the grammatical errors/sentence structure that occur throughout the book I think it would have elevated the book and made it professional. There were stories that I believe shouldn't have made it in the final draft but overall I think this is a step in the right direction. I suggest that Jain continues to write and strengthen her gift.

Thank you Aakanksha for suggesting to do a book swap. It has been a pleasure reading your book. As I said I cannot wait to read more from you! Keep writing.

While narrating a story it's not about the length of it but it's the depth that scores. This book is a collection of 40 micro-fiction tales. As the author mentioned each story is not more than 50 words, but she has maintained a colourful versatility. The first story starts with the idea of an introvert; the second love, marriage, and separation; third pain of love; next comes the parting ways of friendship; and many such stories with a touch of darkness. I say darkness, because I believe it hides many emotions like pain, hatred, loneliness, lost happiness, desperation, broken promises, trauma, and many more hidden emotions. I have read few such stories but this one is impressive, because it's written in simple words with deep narration. I enjoyed every tale in this book but if I have to choose it will be Dreamer.

Like the description of the book says this is a collection of 50 words or less micro fiction stories. The stories are engaging. However, the freshness is lacking. I felt the stories presented have been told before.

Also, the book needs proofreading to ensure adherence to the grammatical rules.

I like to support self-published authors and wish Aakanksha all the best with this and her future books.

Reflection by Aakanksha Jain is a heartfelt and introspective collection that takes readers on an emotional journey through the complexities of self-discovery, healing, and the power of inner strength. With a voice that is both gentle and resonant, the author’s writing reads like a mirror to the soul, inviting readers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with their own truths.

The book is structured as a series of poetic and prose reflections, each touching on universal themes such as love, loss, resilience, and hope. The author’s language is simple yet evocative, allowing emotions to flow freely without the burden of excessive ornamentation. Her style feels deeply personal, almost like reading someone’s journal — raw, honest, and unfiltered.

One of Reflection's strengths is its accessibility. Each piece encourages readers to slow down and consider their emotional landscape.

What sets this collection apart is its emphasis on inner dialogue and self-awareness. Aakanksha doesn’t offer answers; instead, she prompts readers to ask their own questions, to sit with discomfort, and to find meaning in silence. This approach makes Reflection not just a book to be read, but one to be returned to during different seasons of life.

Reflection is a soothing yet stirring read — ideal for anyone seeking comfort, clarity, or a deeper connection with themselves. Aakanksha Jain delivers a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the most profound journeys are the ones we take inward.

Stories : forty micro- fiction stories
Genre: Fiction

✨ Summing up a story in less than 50 words is not an easy task and the author did a great job in it . The collection of the stories are represented in a unique way which i loved because it covered every emotion from happiness to sadness . There are also thriller and horror and many of them are dark and created some intresting plots . The titles of the every story are well written starting from the introvert, mirror and many more . I used to read many stories like these in quora so there are some of the stories from these which felt quite similar while reading it. Although the idea of the stories are impressive . It hardly takes 20 min to read the whole book . So if you are into quick reads then this is for you . I shared some of my favourite ones swipe to see them .
Happy reading ❤️

This book is quite unique. This collection contains 40 short tales (50 words stories). Some of the stories are genuinely improbable, while others you can predict from the start. a quick read. If you don't want to browse through large books, you may test it out. The title is also excellently rendered, as is the cover. But I believe something is still missing.

The main narrative starts with the potential of a thoughtful person, followed by love, marriage, and separation, third-degree adoring torture, the spreading out in various directions of kinfolk, and countless more like vague tales. I mention darkness because I recognise that it hides a variety of emotions including pain, contempt, and melancholy.Lost happiness, sadness, broken promises, damage, and many more hidden emotions. I haven't read many of these kind of stories, but this one stands out since it's written simply but well. I read every tale in this collection, but if I had to choose, I would choose Visionary.

My Rating-⭐⭐⭐⭐

My Review-

This book is a collection of micro fiction stories with lots of emotions. From every micro fiction you can find humour, horror, happiness, sadness, etc. Some of them really become my favourite.

I really love how the author has portrayed every emotion in a micro fiction prose with typically less than 50 words and yet so connecting and enjoyable. It is not a very easy task and I really appreciate the author for making such an amazing collection of short stories.

I really liked every micro fiction in this book but there are few I really adore and felt amazing. They are Friendship, Lost, Love, sucker, sisters, lonely, spirit, memories, pressure and drained.

I'll share some of it in the feed, but I highly recommend everyone to take a look and give a small amount of 15 minutes to read these stories, I'm sure you'll be connected with them too… Happy Reading

Talks about day to day life and problems of humans. Human nature, desire, revenge ,betrayal, self respect ,effect of overdoes , fake and many more including social issues.
Every story is less than 50 words. It’s very difficult to convey a complete story with minimum words. The author achieved that.
I thoroughly enjoyed something different very short book of this author @bookcharming

Mirror
I can show you anything. Mirror said.
Really? she asked innocently.
Yes, dear. All I want is to know where my parents are.
There was nothing...
Hello? Are you there? Can you tell me where they are?
I can't show dead people, honey. I'm sorry.

Some stories are quite powerful way of conveying message like the title Mirror. It says, mirrors can show anything except dead people, which conveys a lot.

Have you ever read stories with only 40-50 words?
Sounds interesting right!!
Yes this book by Aakansha contains collection of micro fiction stories written in only 40- 50 words…

When I read the blurb about the book I thought I should give it a trail of this unique experiment. To my surprise I am really impressed how the stories have turned out very well. They contain an introduction, conflict and the resolution all within 50 words!!

Reflection - the title is apt because this book contains a unique collection of micro fiction stories describing an introvert.
The cover page aptly illustrates the content.

The title of this work, "Reflection," is appropriate and supports its goal. This is a collection of brief captions and lyrical passages that accurately depict you. I adore all of the parts of this book since they are so simple and written in language that is easy to understand. Each line's word choice demonstrates that the book was composed with sincere comprehension and original ideas. Quick and really fascinating to read. About 125 brief (a few words) tales make up the collection. The tales centre on themes like love, pressure, and retribution. I had never read a book like this and found it intriguing. You have the option of reading this book rapidly or slowly.

"I find it difficult to make friends or talk to anybody even though I have known them for years."

The moment I read this, I knew that this book would keep me hooked. Also, the best part about this is that, all the stories are very short.

The book consists of various micro-fiction stories, that you can complete the whole stuff in very less time. The topics discussed are very relatable to our day-to-day activities and scenarios.

Some stories like the mirror and friends was deep. I can't really tell which one was my favorite, because I sort of liked almost all the stories.

Good job, Aakanksha!!

I remember my childhood like it was a
memory of yesterday. I played with my
cousins, listened to my grandparent's
stories, sleep without any tension at our ancestral home. Everything was perfect, like a dream, but everything has an end.

Reflection is a beautiful book by Aakanksha Jain. It has many angles like secret desires, everyday problems, social complications etc. There are forty stories written in less than fifty words.

From the very beginning of the book you will find yourself hooked to it. I am amazed with the author's writing style, every story is unique and has the essence of its own. I genuinely loved this book.

Do you think love hurts? I say my friends hurt the most.
With one such thought and many more weaved with the beauty of words, thoughts, and emotions, Reflections is a work of expertise penned by the author Aakansha Jain.
I have always been a fan of words. As it holds to charm to make you and break you. And this one was way beyond my thoughts as I didn't know such short words can convey an entire story.
The thought process of the author was just mesmerizing making the book a masterpiece of its kind.
It was the very first micro-fiction read of mine and trust me this one had my heart and will always stay intact with me.

Reflection is a collection of micro-stories with a limit of 50 words or less. All these stories are hard-hitting with elements of tragedy, horror, some even traumatic or with a touch of grief! They all have one thing in common that is a twisted ending which leaves you shocked or wondering in some cases. The only minor drawback was slight grammatical hiccups. But the format of the story and the micro tales will keep you intrigued and I would definitely recommend this as a short read to shake up your senses!
Looking forward to reading more work by the author Aakanksha Jain.

Reflection by Aakanksha Jain is a prose-poetry book. The book consists of 40 stories, each of 40-50 words.

Some of the stories are Introvert, as being introvert person I highly relate to this.. its really difficult to talk with any person or make friends and talking with myself in front of mirror is now become a habit.

Karma, this is the best one.. it conveys the deep message and should be read by every person out there :)

Will, everyone should have the will in their life even if you fail some of tests of the life.
Another great story with great message.

Recommending this book to every reader who like prose-poetry.

Microfiction holds the charm to take your breath away by the intensity of thoughts portrayed by the least of words.

True to keep you intact and finish off this book in hardly a span of 15 minutes for a vivid reader like me. I love the thoughts weaved beautifully by the author with the most suited words to make it an easy and relatable read.

Short, precise, crisp yet complete made the book no less than a light mode read which can be savoured by all. Either it's Desire or Love, each one will give thoughts worth savouring.

A great effort of the author which is totally worth reading.
