It’s hard to live up to your father’s legacy when he’s a force of nature.
Mia Verick grew up on a remote homestead far from anything people would dare call civilization. Her upbringing was…unusual.
Most young women raised in the Kerrick Confederacy of Aligned Planets go to school. Mia had daily firearms practice, tactical exercises, and pilot training.
She never cared about her strange life, only about living up to the expectations of her father. His mysterious job often takes him away on secret missions, leaving her to self-training until the day she can surpass him.
Now she will never get the chance.
When a messenger from the city arrives at the homestead, Mia’s not ready for the harsh truth.
Her father has died under classified circumstances. No one will tell her the truth, leaving her with only one option.
Can she ferret out the truth about her father’s death by herself?
Being raised as the perfect soldier doesn’t mean surviving the urban jungle will be easy.
Her audacious plan takes her far from home to the world's largest city. Betrayals push her to an even more surprising place.
The most elite fighter training school in the KCAP is the only place she can earn the influence she needs to learn the truth about her father. Before that, she'll need to survive a true nest of a private military academy.
Can a girl taught to shoot first and ask questions later learn to operate in a dangerous environment where everyone is friend and foe?

Next novel will be released in February and book 3 in March. It is a good relationship, youth growing up, and futuristic novel. Happy reading in 2023🌙
I really liked Michael's early series such as 'the unbelievable Mr. Brownstone' and 'the Witch of the Federation' great character development, novel concepts, and good plots. However Michael became addicted to quantity and often the quality suffered becoming pulp fiction like 'the Gunsmith' (now up to 250+ volumes. Despite riding on the title and basic concept of the popular movies I'm glad to say he's gotten back to really good storytelling with a unique character and some good plot twists some of which are still to be revealed. For once I'm really looking forward to book 2 and beyond.
PS. many of the series Michael is the co-author of do NOT suffer from the pulp fiction syndrome. PPS. What constitutes good fiction is of course a matter of taste. Still my preferences have been developed over a reading lifetime that consists of 3300+ books on Kindle, a home library of paperback and hardbound of another 2500 and couple of thousand more borrowed from public library's when I couldn't afford to purchase.
When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure if I was going to actually finish it. It was very slow at the beginning, but it finally got better closer to the end. Mia seemed like a spoiled teenager that had been left alone to do whatever she wanted for too long, and had no social skills. When she was told that her father had died, her first response was to find out who killed him. She sounded so much like a robot and treating, trying to figure out who killed her father as a mission. It seem to me that the book was going to be just MIA wanting to blow up and kill things, but fortunately, it did get better and she got past that. She did make friends, and also a few enemies in the flight school.
I stopped reading Anderle's books some time ago as he seemed to farm out his name to any hack writer who needed some recognition. Seeing some good reviews for this series, and it being solo-authored by Anderle, I gave it a chance. Now I'm sorry I did.
The protagonist, Mia, has gone beyond being a caricature of hard-bitten action females and drifted into the territory of the clinically insane. Imagine a doomsday prepper raised by a cult leader with unlimited resources. She's arrogant, entitled, well-armed, and on a hair trigger.
This book is an insult to my intelligence but if you like mindless violence then go for it.
I love Anderle's universes. He's a great writer and I'm glad to dive into them to see what happens. In this case, the main character is... deliberately difficult to get to know. It's hard to care as much about her fate as a result. The other major problem is the weird and out of the blue plan that leads to the second book. So as much as I loved the plot and the settings, those two problems made it difficult for me to give a darn... or read the next in the series.
This story was very different from the other military academy stories I have read. That's OK because it was just as interesting and mesmerizing as the others, if not more so. I jumped in and held on all the way through as I couldn't put it down. I think I see some surprises coming in future books. It will be fun to find out if I am right. You will know it when you see it.
Great read! A surprising twist to what Michael has been putting out lately but a really interesting start to what is looking like a great series with plenty of room to expand. A young military daughter that's only had her fathers love, discipline, and competitive spirit that she's inherited in spades. Can't wait for the next one Michael, keep writing great stories and I'll keep reading them!
I have not read Anderle for a bit because of the bingeing. 10-20 books at a time, my other imaginary people feel neglected! I love Mia and her constant evaluating-reevaluating puts us in her mind and exactly what she has to use as a standard for this is off the charts. She means business and she has a strong moral compass for most things, just not moral by many of my standards. Great read again, I hope I can stop after three books this time.
Mia has spent her whole life learning to be the best soldier by her father. When he gets killed she will do anything to find out why, including becoming a Top gun pilot. This was a very good start to the series and I enjoyed the characters a lot. I also really like the world building and am looking forward to more of the series.
A young girl trained by her father to be the best she can be...Mia is smart, quick and trying to get into the Space flight Top Gun equivalent. I liked her development throughout the book. It was interesting to watch a her as a dedicated loner make friends and learn to socialize.
There is so much excitement going on in this book from the beginning to the end! The characters are stellar and the main character is so talented and full of surprises. I loved it!! I can't wait to get into the second book!! Thank you for writing this. I haven't had this much fun in a long time.
Wow, another really awesome series from Michael Anderle!!!!
Congratulations to Michael Anderle for another really amazing series. It’s hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is been a great story I really enjoyed the characters and the story line. Abigail was a great character I really enjoyed her story I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series And find out what happened to her father.
All I am is a reader so who am I to say I was impressed by this book. But I was; I really enjoyed reading it. It felt like the original MA’s writing. Just like with his first series I am hooked. Excellent characters.
Really enjoyed Mia and her adventures from Wilderland to Top Gun School (tongue in cheek). Mr. Android is a vivid storyteller and space is a favorite of mine. Mia overcomes and yet maintains her integrity, a lesson desperately needed these days:)
I read this book for a challenge and it was way better than expected. And I expected it to be really good. I like the story and the characters, and the setting is interesting, too. I can’t wait to start the next book in the series.
I don’t usually read young adult books, but I am a huge Michael Andrle fan. I found this book very interesting and entertaining at the same time. I was especially impressed with the way that the character developed and I’m looking forward to book two!
I absolutely loved this book!! I can't wait for the next book to come out! I wonder how many books are going to be in this series..... hopefully lots of them!
I liked the story. The challenges of growing up are viewed in a different perspective. There are unseen links to be discovered with the primary characters.
Coming of age military girl who is orphaned and is motivated to identify who killed her father who trained her to be the best.Purchased this item on September 16, 2023, from Amazon for free.
I devoured this book in one day and several sittings - basically every chance I got to read, I took it. I simply did not want to put the book down.
I’m unsure if I’ve read one of Mr Anderle’s books before, but I will most definitely be hunting them out to read now.
He nailed the performance of the characters brilliantly. You knew who was on the page. The flow was excellent and the storyline played out I was well and truly riveted from the first page to the last.
