Lynn Vincent knows all the latest trends and isn?t afraid to flaunt her funky style. The problem is, in small-town Pennsylvania, being fashion forward makes Lynn socially backward. And the queen bees at her high school won?t let her forget it, especially when her dream of making the IT panel for GlITter Girl ?the coolest fashion magazine in teendom?is crushed. But when one of Lynn?s unique creations makes it into the hands of a famous designer and onto the runway, it seems that Lynn might finally get her moment in the spotlight.
This is my definite all-time favorite. It's got some boy-like-girl in it, so I would say 4th grade and up is the age rating. This book is a great pick for girls to want to be fashion designers, like me. Lynn has this spectacular closet where she makes her own clothes, though sometimes she embellishes store-bought garments. After I finished it I tried taking all my clothes out of my tiny closet and stuffing them in my dresser, but that didn't work. My closet is tiny, but Lynn's sounds like an enormous walk-in. But Julie DeVillers just can't be stopped. I love everything she writes, every single word. My favorite female author, and all I really have to say is...
So adorable! I loved this book and not just because I recently met the incredibly nice author at a lunch recently for M!x authors. Lynn reminded me a bit of Stargirl, a funky girl who just wants to be herself and not follow the social rules of school. Good for her!
This is about a girl who has a more advanced point of view (in terms of fashion) that others don't seem to agree with. At least not until one of her creations lands her in a magazine...
4 1/2 stars. Okay, it’s not brilliant writing, but it is a perfect example of a realistic, girly book that is entertaining, appealing, full of wish fullfillment and a positive message. Everything is too perfect to be true but that is exactly what is needed to wean newly confident readers from the lost in... series.
This is a great book to read and notice how being different from the others shouldn’t change the way you act and dress and if being bullied for being you; you shall just ignore and love your best life!
I read this when I was 13 for the first time. I read it 3 or 5 times more after that I was always in love with this book. It was always a favorite. I still have it. A great book for kids ages 11-13
Lynn is just entering highschool, she expresses herself through what she wears, including a polly pocket necklace. Everywhere she goes she is stared at, not because of her looks, her clothes, she wears what she is feeling. She is also tormented by The "It" girl at school. When Lynn decides to try out for the IT Panel for a fashion magazine, it goes horribly wrong and ends up with her shoe ending up in a major fashion designers salad. She is so embarassed she runs away. Wierd thing is the fashion designer is really impressed with Lynn's shoe. They name Lynn the face of the magazine, but when things start heading in the wrong direction Lynn stays true and decides to not let the "shoe" become millions of shoes.
This was one of those books that was an easy read, but it was super predictable. I thought it was a total cliche and I wish I could of liked it more. If I was younger, this would have been a good book. It teaches good lessons like be yourself and don't let someone change you and take advantage of you.
I love this book that is definately appropriate for 5 graders and up. Younger student will enjoy this story as well though there is some mention of kissing. Nothing too graphic.
Lynn loves fashion and she has always dressed to reflect who she is on the inside. A pink tutu with knit leggings and a hello kitty necklace constructed from old figurines? Shoes made from little pictures of her friends glued all over the place? Lynn does it all.
When a new online magazine comes to town in search of girls to write for the blog Lynn goes to try out. She misses her opportunity because of a fashion emergency (aka the bathroom)and is really upset. She ends up going out to eat with her friend where she runs into the famous Valentyna and trying to look cool she walks past her strutting in her new shoes-slips- and has one of her shoes fly off and into Valentyna's salad.
Embarassed she runs out. Then she finds out that there is a hunt to find the creator of the shoe. Similar to Cinderella!
Great example of friendship, popularity, how to treat people and following your dreams.
Lynn Visible looked like a terribly cutesy book......and while it is definitely a light read, it was fun. Lynn is a fashionista in training, dreaming of the day she wins Project Runway. Of course, in her small town, no one understands her style and she often faces stares, rudeness and outright nastiness regarding her "out there" looks. Then, a true fashion icon finds one of her custom made shoes (Ok, so it flipped into her salad when Lynn fell).....and then suddenly Lynn is an IT girl...you know, the one EVERYONE wants to be like and be with. How she handles her new fame is sweet and of course it has a happily ever after. This was a fun fluffy read, not cutesy (as in I want to puke rainbows after reading) but definitely to be taken with a grain of salt. That said, I think I know a few girls who would really enjoy this on a nice relaxing snow day home from school =)
ETA 3/27/20 I still love this book to death, it’s just as good as I remembered
This is one of my all-time favorite books, and I'm not even sure why. I'm sure part of it is simply because I really like most of Lynn's outfit creations and would totally wear them myself. Bella the dog is cute, too. I personally found Lynn herself very relateable, and her brother Dex is funny. It's a very quick read with lots of fluff. Lots of "weird" outfit descriptions. There is a nice message about being yourself and not selling out your values for popularity or money. The ending is very satisfying and I like that Chasey and Lynn don't end up being besties by the end of the book. It's a very "girly" book, There is some mention of kissing but nothing too much, so I 100% recommend for ages...10+, depending on the kid.
Once I started to read Lynn Visible, I couldn't put it down. Lynn's character was easy to relate to and I loved that she wasn't ashamed to express herself through fashion, even when it usually led to teasing by her fellow classmates. Her antics had me laughing aloud throughout the whole book.
Author Julia DeVillers had the right amount of tween/teen angst, comedy (and a love interest too!) to capture her audience and keep them turning pages. Even though this story is written for middle grade readers, DeVillers has written a story that will appeal to a much wider audience.
"Lynn Visible" is the perfect book for girls of all ages – it’s fun, and the main character is easy to relate to. Lynn is a girl who’s always been very visible due to her wacky sense of style and her refusal to dress like everyone else. Fashion is her passion and she gets the break of a lifetime when a famous designer gets a hold of one of Lynn’s self-designed shoes, Cinderella-style. Suddenly all of Lynn’s dreams are coming true, but is fame what she really wants? Pick up a copy of "Lynn Visible" and follow her crazy, hilarious journey!
This book talks about a girl, and how many people didn't like her because she 'didn't fit in.' She was an outcast to all the girls in her school, and the queen of her school, also thought she wasn't cool - just because her clothes weren't nice. She was rejected but - Lynn was very artistic. Her works of her hands caused her to have a lot of attention, gradually. I recommend this book because it teaches that everyone's unique in many different ways. We have talents, and we're all good at something.

I skim read this, which was more than enough. It is about as believable as Kate Gosselin trying to pretend she is a good caring mother. And as an (occasionally) good, caring mother, I can tell you that there is no way I would allow my own daughters to head out for the first day of high school in a "funky" outfit complete with a Polly Pocket necklace.
The entire premise is phony. The ending reeks. And the only thing I hate more than pugs is people who think pugs look cute dressed up.
I really liked the main character, Lynn, a fashion forward h.s. freshman unafraid of expressing herself. I enjoyed the detailed discriptions of Lynn's outfits (and her closet!) and wished I had the creative guts, vision and confidence she has (if my mom laughed when I came downstairs, ready for school, I went up and changed!). Fairly predictable, but very read-able, with lots of funny moments. It would be fun to re-visit Lynn's world.
An mediocre story of a high-school freshman who dreams of designing her own fashions. Her everyday clothes are her own creations and she is often criticized in school for them. She finally gets her chance to shine when one of her creations catches the eye of a famous designer. However the fame that follows is not all that it's cracked up to be.
The follow-your-dreams storyline paired with the focus on individuality is good, but there is nothing that uniquely stands out about this book.
This book is perfect for kids starting junior high! It is very inspirational. Kids will learn to express themselves in different ways no matter how the other kids treat you. Lynn is a girl with some tough choices. Grace And Taylor sound like some really sweet girls. The book wouldn't be complete without Lynn's loveable pug, Bella!
This was such a fun book. Lynn is used to people staring at her, she has a style all her own. Read this book to find out how she goes from visible (bad) to invisible (worse), to visible (bad, good, then great).
this book is sooo cool and i think lynn is on a roll with this fashion stuff and getting friends!!! i think shes going to go from a total nobody to a total somebody!!!
