From award-winning Boston Herald sports columnist Steve Buckley comes Wicked Good Year, an insightful, celebratory look at Boston’s mega-successful 2007-2008 sports season, during which the Red Sox swept the World Series, the Patriots went undefeated during the regular season, and the Celtics won the NBA Championship. Wicked Good Year looks at the three teams through the eyes of the players, coaches, and team personnel and also a variety of personalities and fans, showing how these teams worked together to shed their city’s “Loserville” image and transform it into the capital of sports.
I really enjoyed this book because of my love for Boston sports. Reading this book about the four major Boston sports teams was a fun read and interesting to me. The book is different stories about the Bruins,Red Sox,Celtics and Patriots. I have been a fan of these sports teams since I was a kid and have always watched the games. I would recommend this for any Boston sports fans that loves sports and reading about the teams they love.
A fun nostaglic look at the spring of 2007 to the spring of 2008 where the Boston Red Sox won a World Series, the Patriots (although cheating) won 18 games in a row before losing the Super Bowl in an epic game against the Giants and finally the Boston Celtics trading for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to combine with Paul (I shit my pants but got a wheelchair. Seriously he shit his pants) Pierce to win an NBA title. Has a little but not much on the Boston Bruins as well for hockey. I like that this book is written fairly and isn't some kind of fan boy journal. I loved reading stories about Manny Ramirez, Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz, Josh Beckett, Jon Lester (especially his story), Garnett, Pierce, Doc Rivers, Ray Allen, Tom Brady, Rodney Harrison (god I hate this dude), Randy Moss and Bill Billicheck. A must for Boston fans. I enjoyed it all except, well maybe the end part with the Celtics. Forgot how much they struggled just to get to the finals, especially in the first round against Atlanta. Fun stuff, looking to read more by the author.
from the fall of 2007 to the spring of 2008, boston sport fans enjoyed a run at good fortune that was unpredictable in sports history. the red sox won the world series, the celtics won the NBA championship, and the patriots made it the superbowl.
A fun read for fans of Boston sports. Not a great literary effort. The book Is mostly a collection of articles and short interviews. But if you'd like to relive the magical 2007 season, this book is a great way to do it.
