Hunky heroes, time-traveling ninjas, and a great escape... It's all inside the next hot volume of Shinobi Life!...When Hitaki and Iwatsuru try to abduct Beni, Kagetora saves her and threatens the two of them if they ever harm Beni again. Realizing the danger that Beni is in, Kagetora tells Beni's father that he will no longer listen to his orders, and instead he will serve Beni alone. Outraged, Beni's father fires Kagetora, and this spurs Kagetora to run away from the house--taking Beni with him!
The story deepens as does the characterization. Finally we're getting to know everyone and the main characters aren't coming off as flat as they had previously. While earlier you could see the traces of the stand alone short that this manga started out as, now the plot thickens, various storylines tangling in the most delightful of ways. I'm enjoying this series a lot.
Binge read the whole series in half a day and I loved it so, so much! I always love stories that have time travel just because they're that much more complicated so they take that much more effort and planning from the author(s).
The samurai feel made me think of Itsuwaribito, which I also enjoyed!
I loved the romance between Kagetora and Beni! At first I thought it was too much of instant romance, but later as I kept realizing more and more about their story and being connected over a large span of time--everything made sense and they are seriously a beautiful couple, fated to be together!
Things are starting to piece together.... This story is much deeper than I thought it would be.. and darker. I want to hate Rihito but seeing his sad past with his mother, I can’t!!!! He deserves love too!!! And I’m worried that Hitaki is taking advantage of him....
Gosh this series has me in a chokehold!😭 I love this couple so much and I want them to be together! I hate that I just found out that the series never got finished printing in English...but I will be collecting all that exists! So good! So steamy!!
Loved how the maid put modern ideas in Kagetora's head and how they came to fruition. I also quite enjoyed Inwartsu - I feel like he really loves Beni but fears for her life knowing that is going on with her father.
Sure Beni and Kagetora are in love with each other but other things get in the way as they stand together.
I'd probably have enjoyed this more if I'd read volumes 1-3; as it was, I didn't really buy the grand romance of it all. On the other hand, the fish out of water moments with Kagetora were fantastic. Less angst, more lowbrow comedy, please?
I found this to be quite melodramatic. 'I won't listen to you, I'm running away.' ' I know what's best Dad, I'm 16.' Wow, the makings of a classic. Good thing the other volumes make up for this.
Beni tells the truth about why shes been acting weird and later she and Kagetora run away. And we learn more about Rihito. Seems he's actually starting to fall for Beni. Love triangle?
Skimmed. She's just too ditzy-in-love for me, and I've flipped through the next three volumes and I'm not interested in the story expansion - passing on the rest of the series.
