The popular children’s story appears in graphic novel form for the first time in the U.S., with stories never seen in America. This time, Geronimo Stilton and friends must travel back in time to Ancient Egypt! The Pirate cats, jealous that the face of a man was placed on the body of the Sphinx, are determined to coerce the Pharaoh into changing the face of this monument. It’s up to Geronimo and co. to travel back in time and stop the Pirate Cats before it’s too late.

This is the second graphic novel in the Geronimo Stilton Graphic Novel series published by Papercutz. I read this after enjoying first volume. Like the first one I read this to my daughters and they totally enjoyed it! How much did they enjoyed it? When I read it to them at night they tell me not to stop! These books tell the story of a mouse Geronimo Stilton and his family and friends going into time in history through a time machine to stop the insidious plot of the Pirate Cats. Besides the adventure long the way young readers will also learn about history. As a parent passionate about history I like that! In this volume Gemino and his group goes back to time to ancient Egypt. He is joined by a same cast of characters from volume one: his cousin Trap, his nephew Benjamin and Benjamin’s friend Bugsy Wugsy. However there’s a new addition to this stoy: Petunia who takes the place of Thea in volume one (Thea is Geronomino’s sister). Together they enter the “speedrat” which is a time machine to go back in time to Ancient Egypt. Their adventures take them to Giza Plateau, Memphis and the Nile River, all real places in ancient Egypt. I love how the graphic novel will have information panels telling us the history and fun facts along the way. This is great and informative. My kids will often ask further historical questions whenever these pop up. Geronimo and friends meet all kinds of interesting historical figures along the way and manage to stop the Pirate Cats’ plot to change history. Fun!
3 stars & 3/10 hearts. I really like the images of this book. The story is humorous and light, of course, and also teaches a tiny bit about Ancient Egypt. Of course there is some exclamations of “the gods be praised,” etc.
If your child is a Stilton fan, they'll enjoy seeing the novels in graphic form. The artwork is very nice and the story keeps the action running. A nice book to show reluctant readers.
I liked this one better than the first! There aren't long stretches of times where nothing is happening so it felt more like an adventure. I really enjoyed the plot too because I do like Bastet, the Goddess of Cat. Was it actually necessary for the pirate cats to try and have a cat face on sphinx? No. But I liked it anyway.
We're so proud of you for reading "The Secret of the Sphinx" by Geronimo Stilton! This adventure taught us about the importance of curiosity and learning from history. Just like Geronimo discovered secrets about the past that helped him on his journey, you can learn from history and stories to help you understand the world better. Remember to always ask questions and seek answers, just like your favorite characters. This curiosity will help you in school and as you learn more about the wonderful world around you!
My son really likes Geronimo Stilton books. The graphic novels are great as there are a lot of pictures for him which he likes but I also don’t think he follows the story as well. I would rather a novel format for him with some pictures thrown in. I like the Kingdom of fantasy books better for this reason.
Rats vs. Cats in ancient Egypt. There is always a background lesson in History in these comics and this one introduces the young reader to the culture of ancient Egypt. Though I laughed through it, Geronimo Stilton is not Tintin, not Asterix, not Garfield! It just misses out somewhere.
