Mathematics (Wiskunde in woord en beeld) Mathematics is a book written by C. Solomon in 1971 an is a scientific non-fictional piece on mathematics. There is no information available about the author to verify his credibility but the book is well written with accurate information. The book promises to explain why certain mathematical formulas work and how, as well as give the reader further insight into the beauties of mathematics and its practical uses. My dad recommended this book to me so I read it.
This book is mainly about the application of mathematics in real life as well as different formulas. Mathematics tells this information very clearly and well. A lot of examples are used to clarify certain formulas and/or show an application of math in the real world. It is written in an academic, yet informal tone, with some jokes here and there lightening the mood and giving the reader a break from math. This book also goes over the principal components of mathematics, such as logarithms, statistics, finding of chance and many others. This book taught me a lot of interesting and useful information. One, I discovered that it is possible to put any number into powers of 2. This is quite helpful in multiplication. Another interesting thing I learned is the calculation of chance and how it might not be accurate. Finally, I learnt the best uses for mean, median, IQR and how these statistics might lie. This info can be applied in daily life, making it quite valuable. The author achieved his purpose in teaching me more.
This is a great book with some knowledge of mathematics, even if it is not very good or advanced. It is told with great explanations and examples making it easy to comprehend. The calculations are written out well and clear. However, not all part of this book consists of mathematic formulas. Some chapters elaborate on the use of statistics and how much we can trust them as well as the chance of something happening. My most favourite part is about statistics. Overall, a great book for most people with an interest in math. I give it a 7.5/10.
