A light and fluffy read about angels!
Heartwarming and inoffensive... Unless of course you are offended by angels! 😂
Not a book to be taken particularly seriously but maybe one to make you question what is REALLY important in life.

I just finished reading book 7 for the Christmas Spirit Challenge and 2010 Holiday Reading Challenge. And true to the spirit of Debbie Macomber’s other Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy books, Angels at Christmas was a winner.

There were two stories in this book. The first one is Those Christmas Angels. This is the first story in which all three Prayer Ambassadors get sent to work on the same prayer request. Anne Fletcher was about to give up hope. She sent up one last prayer in hopes that someone in Heaven would help to thaw her son’s frozen heart. After his dad had stolen his fiancé from him, he lost faith in love and trust in humanity. Archangel Gabriel decides that this case needs a special touch. So he sends his three favorite Prayer Ambassadors (but he will never let on to them that they are) down to help out Roy Fletcher. And as usual, Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy cause mayhem while down on Earth. However, once again they pull off this prayer request in a most unusual way.

The second one takes us back to the original styling of Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy books. In Where Angels May Go, Gabriel once again sends down the three Prayer Ambassadors to Earth to each work on their own cases. Mercy was assigned to help elderly Harry get his wife ready for his soon departure from this life. A very difficult task, but one that Mercy undertakes with much love and compassion. Shirley got what seemed like an easy assignment, find a dog for Carter for Christmas. However, Carter’s dad was dead set against allowing him to have a dog. Shirley thought it would be easier to get the little boy to change his mind about wanting a dog. And we know how easy it is to change a stubborn little boy’s heart and mind. Finally, Goodness was assigned to Beth. Beth’s mother wanted nothing more than her daughter to put down the video games long enough to find another husband. Beth’s first marriage didn’t last. And Beth no longer wanted anything to do with dating. So she buried herself into World of Warcraft.

Both of these stories were lovely. However, I do have to say that I wept much more with Where Angels May Go then with Those Christmas Angels. Definitely keep a box of tissues handy for the second story. You will need it.

Then again, having had my mom pass away at Christmas time may have just made me much more sympathetic to Harry and his wife Rosalie. Death is never easy whether you prepare for it or not.

this is the first Debbie Macomber I have been reading. On the second tale Where Angels Go. I should have perhaps started with the first of the angels series but when i bought the book did not realise this was a series but you could read as a stand alone i have started the second book and Harry;s story is moving me still to find out about the rest so but she writes good and i will get the rest of the angels books eventually. the three angels are lovely goodhearted and helpful if mischevious I think Gabriel the Arch Angel is fond of them really.

Well i got a surprise in Beth and Peter/John's story and also the Jacksons' Fire. But it worked out well. My favourite of the three stories was about Harry and Rosalie. A lovely and sad ending and when Harry went to Heaven and was his younger self with the angels.

Comprising two novellas. Both of a nice length, the characters allowed to develop.

Taken individually I would have rated the first story, Those Christmas Angels as an OK read but (despite the fact it was itself three short stories within one) by far the better of the two stories, rather surprisingly, I actually found myself really enjoying the second story, Where Angels Go.

Stories in which the characters offered up their prayers whether they be those of a mother wanting her son to let go of the past and find love again or a young boy who so desperately wants a dog for Christmas (something I could strongly relate to) or ... sob; be warned you may want to have a tissue (or two) to hand ... an elderly man who, knowing he is soon to die, worries about leaving his beloved wife behind.

Though with what I felt was a strong Christian message at the heart of both stories I didn't feel that this was a message 'forced upon me' so much as it was just one aspect of the story.

Fluffy, nauseatingly sentimental, predictable in that you just knew everyone was going to get their happy-ever-afters, cheesy I'll grant you but hey-ho it wouldn't be Christmas without at least one such read.

Two lovely Christmas stories about three Angels who, whilst granting wishes on Earth, get into scrapes and misuse their powers for both mischief and bringing joy to others. A little on the religious side, but very fitting for the Season. These are Books 5 & 6 of the Angels Series, but the only ones I've read.

I think my eyes rolled out of my head on this one. Not sure what universe this was supposed to take place in, where a mother's prayer that a woman soften her son's heart (as if it's a woman's job and not his own responsibility) lands on the desk of Archangel Gabriel as one of the most important and desperate and complicated matters for angels to attend to. Apparently no one in this planet is ever in truly dire straits.

I couldn't take any of it seriously after that; plus the writing style is awkward and clunky and none of the sequence of events is remotely convincing. No one is that big a jerk as Roy; businessmen are always on 'schmooze' mode. Julie was supposed to be tough enough to stand up to him but went along with whatever he wanted anyway.

I guess it's basically a passion play. I might have gone along for the ride if the premise hadn't insulted my intelligence so badly.

Copied from my review of the second book in this compilation:

This was a fun light holiday read. It has three plot lines, and one pretty major plot twist. Usually my family teases me about my love for fluffy reads like this, but this time when I was sharing one plot line with them, my daughter actually asked me to read ahead and read those chapters aloud for her. It was one of the more interesting plot twists I've seen Macomber use in awhile.

The first book was good, too, but I enjoyed the second much more.

I like to read a cheesy Christmas novel at Christmas time. Something like a Hallmark Christmas movie but in book form. This book actually has two stories between the covers. And the second story follows three different threads. It's typical Debbie Macomber style with an overly omniscient narrator who tells you how the character thinks and feels instead of having their traits revealed slowly as the plot progresses. An enjoyable, low-stress, relaxing read that can add to your Christmas spirit like an extra string of garland on your tree.

Three unique angels, Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy come to Earth( against the better judgement of Archangel Gabriel)to help fulfill some prayer requests at Christmas time. This is two books in one so you get double the fun. The stories were slightly predicible, but they were sweetly and charmingly written.Enjoyable, quick, light reads and I would recommend them. I also see that these angels have appeared in other of Ms. Macomber's books so I will be on the lookout for them!

I really enjoyed this book with two Christmas stories. I got this at a lending library and I voluntarily chose to review this. The two stories in this book is "Those Christmas Angels" and "Where Angels Go". Debbie's angels are so fun to read about. I've rated them each 5*. And these stories, touched my heart. So it moved pretty fast and it was a page turner. Those angels sure have a lot of curiosity about us humans. This author does not disappoint me. On to my next read.

This is the first book I have read by this author. I love reading books set at Christmas and some American authors just capture it so well.
Some people will find these type of books a bit cheesy but I love these. There are two shorter stories in this book with the same theme. The idea, which I like, is that angels receive prayers from Gabriel who receives them on his desk and he sends Angels to Earth to try and sort out problems. I would like to think this really happens. Three angels, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy are the three that go on these occasions. I like the way that these stories revolve around these angels as it gives a different slant to what would otherwise be stories much like any other.
I won't go into the plots as there are lots of reviews which cover these but there are parts of the stories that aren't predictable.
The story about the little boy wanting a dog is just lovely and can be. enjoyed by everyone and the ending about Heaven and Earth is beautiful. There are a few things that the reader can take away from these stories. All in all a good ,gentle Christmas read, perfect for the time of year.

This book is two books in one. Both have Shirley, Goodness and Mercy in them.

The first story is about a wealthy man named Roy that has become closed off because his fiance left him for his father. Well, I'd be closed off and bitter too.

His mom prays for a good woman to come into his life. The angels step up to the plate to help her.

Enter Julie who is the opposite in everyway from Roy's former fiance. They have lots of friction, then chemistry, then friction. Roy is quite the case for the angels.

There is a happy ending with lots of satisfaction 4 stars.

The second story is about an old man who is dying and he wants his wife who he thinks has memory problems to have one last great Christmas with him and then be moved to assisted living.

Um...Merry Christmas?

A perfect book to read at Christmas time. Two different stories, both with the Prayer Ambassadors: Shirley, Goodness and Mercy. The first one is about a mother praying for her son to find someone to heal her son's broken heart and cynical view of the world. Five years before, his fiancée threw him over for his father. The mother has recovered both from the betrayal and her long abandoned painting talent but the son has not.

The second one is about a young woman who spends all her free time playing a computer fantasy game. She is gun-shy because of an early marriage that failed. Her mother lights a candle for her to find someone to love. She begins messaging back and forth to her fantasy partner.

A book which reminds you that miracles do happen. I love how the story is very light and makes me smile at each and every page. This story is about how three Angels visit Earth to help the humans with their problems, but they meddle so much with human problems just to make them happy. Angels choose person based on the prayers they make. By reading you tend to believe there are angels around you right now watching over your head. The second part Where Angels go was so good, however I felt that the ending was pushed too quickly. The book was worth a read and Angels do exist!!! :). Cheers to Debbie Macomber for writing such a wonderful story to know the true spirit of Christmas, Love!!....

This is another story about Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, the 3 angel avocates sent by Angel Gabiel to earth to try to help three people get their most profound wishes before Christmas Eve. There is a lot of humor as the three angels get involved over their heads, but find ways to make those dreams come true: a mother wanting to find a woman for her son to marry, a little boy who desperately wants a dog but his family is too poor, and an aging and ill man who wants to stay alive until he can get his wife into a nursing home. They are touching stories and lots of Christmas messages. It's a fun and clean read.

Id probably say it's a 3.5 for me because it is a beautiful story - however I found that it sometimes drags out the slightest bit. But it is a wonderful story with a lovely ending and is overall extremely uplifting. Although I did like Julie as a character, at times I found myself a bit frustrated with her and her situation with Roy. I did absolutely adore Anne as a character but only hoped she would find love with someone else at the end of the story. A lovely up lifting story showing that angels can work in Mysterious ways. Lovely festive read!

NOTE: I did not read the second story, Where Angels Go.

Those Christmas Angels is sweet and simple and Hallmark-y. Definitely a cute enemies-to-lovers romance but hot damn that romance goes by quickly and Roy is almost unbelievably traumatized by a past bad romance. Like, I get it, but some of his lines in response to the idea of love existing were just cringeworthy (not to mention repetitive).

I enjoyed it but I’m still not sure romance novels are my cup of tea.

I love the three angels: Shirley, Goodness and Mercy. Every year this trio is sent to earth for one day to answer prayers. A mother prays for her workaholic son who doesn’t feel the joy of Christmas, a boy prays for a puppy his family can’t afford, and a man who is ready to pass prays for his wife to be settled into an assisted living community so she will be taken care of. A perfect Christmas spirit read!

This is the first book I have read by Debbie Macomber and what a treat it was! I felt the first story went on and on at some points, which is why I can’t give this a perfect five stars. I liked the second story more, as it followed three other people’s prayers and read quickly. I’m excited to find other books of hers.

These two provided a sweet re-read. I started reading Christmas ARCs for reviews in July. It says a great deal about how much I love Christmas books that more than three months later I am choosing to reread some old favorites in the Christmas romance category.

This audiobook featured the author's 3 Christmas angels: Shirley, Goodness and Mercy. It had two separate books combined. The first started out tediously, I thought, but ended the way I count on a Debbie Macomb book ending. The second was very sweet.

such amazing stories. I loved the second part of this book. Two of the three cases made me cry like a baby! Shirly, Goodness and Mercy are so funny. If I ever have angels that help me, I would want it to be those three.

Every Christmas 3 angels visit earth to help with humanly problems. They seem to cause chaos many times. They like to interfere when they shouldn’t. Great story, action packed. Several stories in one book. Very touching story.
