A very special book. I found it to be beautiful and comforting not only to myself but my father also during this time.

I have now passed on to my sister, it's just that kind of book that helps so much. It helps you to say the things that you are afraid you will miss saying before your loved one is gone.

Spending the last days with a loved one is of course extremely sad but I have found it to be enriching as my father makes that last transition.

I find that it's a privilege to be with Dad during his last days on Earth just as he was there in the first days of me being welcomed into the World.

Cecil Murphey, multi-published author and co-author of over 120 books, had often dealt with people suffering from cancer. As a pastor, he counseled and encouraged many, but when his beloved wife received a diagnosis of breast cancer, he realized he faced a whole new situation.

When Someone You Love Has Cancer is a delightfully-packaged, hard-covered gift book, made up of ten short chapters. Each covers a different aspect of what you and your loved one are likely to face during your journey through the cancer valley. The chapters are based on true-life anecdotes and include gentle guidance for the caregiver. Each ends with a simple prayer. The beautiful illustrations by Michal Sparks add to the overall calming effect of this appealing and much-needed little gift book.

I wish this book had been around over thirteen years ago, when I received my own diagnosis of cancer. I would have made it "required reading" for all those close to me, and most of all for myself.

A few months ago, I nursed my sister-in-law as she succumbed, very quickly, to terminal cancer. She died within seven weeks of her diagnosis. This time, I knew of this book and immediately sent away for it from our mail-order company. Sadly, it arrived too late for me to give it to the other caregivers, but I passed it on to them anyway. Even though their loved one was already in Heaven, they still found the book to be an encouragement and one even bought other copies to pass on to family members.

I plan to always keep a spare copy on my shelves for the future. This is an ideal gift for anyone who needs to care for someone they love, who has cancer.

When Someone You Love Has Cancer by Cecil Murphey couldn't have come at a better time for me. Three days before I received the email about this book, I got word that my uncle's cancer had come back. As someone who is living this right now, this book is perfect. It's short and an incredibly easy read, perfect for anyone who's facing the horrible news but doesn't want to spend hours paging through a book filled with statistics and dry advice. Murphey's book has short anecdotes with down to earth wisdom for the family and friends of cancer sufferers. Some of the advice may seem like common sense, but when your life is turned upside down, common sense is remarkably rare. Each chapter ends with a short prayer for understanding and strength. The most important advice given is for caregivers to just listen and be present for those facing cancer, something that I needed to hear. This book offers hope in the midst of a frightening time. Now that I've finished reading it, I will be passing it on to my mom, and I'm sure that she will pass it on as well. It's that kind of book.
