Is this journey's end . . . or just the beginning? Toklo, Kallik, Lusa, and Ujurak have finally reached the Last Great Wilderness, the legendary bear paradise they've been searching for. But while his companions think they've come to the end of their long journey, Ujurak feels a deep unrest. Is this truly where they're meant to be? In the Last Great Wilderness, one by one the bears begin to remember their true natures. Toklo feels the urge to hunt caribou and mark his territory as a brown bear should, and Kallik feels the pull of the ice within her. It's only Lusa, happy just to be in the wild, who fears the day when her friends will leave her to follow their own paths. As the bears adjust to this new life, disaster strikes. The friends are forced to venture into the world of the flat-faces to save the life of one of their own. Once there, the end of their journey seems farther away than ever, as a new path spreads out before them.
Erin Hunter is inspired by a love of cats and a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. As well as having a great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behavior, shaped by her interest in astronomy and standing stones.
This book for youngsters is the story of four bears and their adventures as they look for a wilderness area where they will be safe from humans. It is a charming story that focuses on ecological problems, friendship, and leadership. The book has a strong message against defiling the planet on which we live. The story is told through the eyes of a bear.
I’d recommend this book to younger readers who like animal adventures.
4.5✨ C’était une très bonne lecture très douce et réconfortante parfaite pour la saison. J’ai adoré me replonger dans la vie de c’est 4 petits oursons. C’est une vrai leçon de morale qui mérite d’être entendu.
4 stars. My kids continue to be enraptured by this series. I love that at the end of this one they immediately started talking about it and theorizing before asking me if I have the next one ready to read together (obviously, yes).
This series is an interesting read - fun for a different point of view on how humans don't treat the world as well as we probably should. It's funny to look at it all from the perspective of a bear because they don't know about "our world". I've warmed up to the series but it's still doesn't make the top of the list. I'm interested enough to want to know what happens next, but not enough that I'd pay full price for the next books and thankful enough that I got the first 5 of this series off the bargain bookshelf for less that $3 each in hard cover. I think I need to put this series down for a bit and read something else before I continue the journey.
Toklo, Kallik, Lusa and their shape - shifter friend Ujurak have finally reach the Last Great Wilderness. Some of them go on their own and some stay. Until they come together to be strong again. But when disaster strikes they are forced to leave risking one of their own. The flat- faces forcing them to go so they don’t get capture. Is this journey coming to the end or is it just the beginning?
People should read this if you like adventures books. Adventure’s books are full of actions and problems to solve. I like it because I like how they go on an adventures. Recommended for young readers because it’s about bears having a goal to reach a certain place to live peaceful.
The Last Wilderness (Seekers #4) by Erin Hunter Fantasy 288 pages
Toklo, Kallik, Lusa and Ujurak have finally made it to the Last Great Wilderness, but has their journey ended..or just begun? Ujurak thinks that this is not the last part of their journey. Is it?
I think this book is a good sequel to Smoke Mountain and overall a good book for a few reasons. One is the bonding between Lusa and Toklo. They really care for each other and it adds to the story a lot. Another reason is Toklo becomes more of a leader and gains a lot of respect from the group. He shows what it means to be a true leader. Ujurak also grows a lot through the book. Whan the group suggests he changes into a bird to fly away from danger, he is resisant and thinks it will mke him look like a coward. Overall this is a good book and sequel.
All in all this was a pretty good book, although I though the ending could have been warped up a little different. It seemed like it was lacking the important details and had to much unnecessary details. Though I might have to reread the ending because I was reading at school wale we were watching some dumb movie.
In this book you will see what the four bear friends will decide to do will they continue there journey or will this be the end.
Will Kallik go to the ice that has been calling her for so long? Will Tolko finally get to mark his own territory? And will Lusa return to the trees were she can climb the trees? But, wait what will Ujurak do now that he is all alone? Well, the only way you will find out is if you read this book.
The book became WAY WAY WAY to preachy about the evils of oil dwelling. This is a children's book, not an adult book! We own the next book, so I will read it, but I will not be buying any more books in this series. I felt that the authors spent too much time on their own views. The point could have been given in a condensed manner. Just my opinion.
They reach The Last Great wilderness! Witch is not as great as the bears thought :(. The flatfaces (people) dig up this thing ( Oil ) and make the earth stinky and smelly. Then thares the part Urjeck (one of the bears) swallowed a fish hook now that was B-A-D :C
Wow, the books in this series seem to be getting worse as they go. This one was very dull and I had a hard time even getting through it. It was very boring and I found myself not caring at all.
Pretty good three stars, I guess? I really have no clue what to rate this book.
On one hand, I know I enjoyed this book more than Smoke Mountain. It was more detailed, in-depth, and the characters felt more unique. On the other hand, I look back on my experience reading this book, and it’s kind of a big blah. It was good, definitely better than the last one, but not much else. I don’t think it lives up to the first two, either.
Character-wise, this book felt much stronger to me than the previous one. Toklo has returned to being more unique in his motivations, and I liked how his little stint alone affected him. Overall, though, I am getting a bit bored of him not really doing anything in the group except hunt for food and occasionally fight someone. His protectiveness in this book was nice to see, and I’m cautiously optimistic about how he’ll be portrayed going forward. Kallik was still pretty disappointing this book. She’s just very bland as a character. I’m really hoping getting on the ice next book will show more depth to her. Lusa was much the same for me in this one. I think my issue with her is that she doesn’t feel like a main character right now. Most of her chapters feature her watching the others do stuff, or wishing they won’t leave. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but I do hope she gets more focus moving forward. Ujurak finally got chapters this book! I loved finally getting his POV; I think it was my favorite part of the book. In my last Seekers review, I mentioned wanting to see Ujurak getting challenged more, and I think this book delivered. When he gets hurt, we briefly get to see him physically challenged, and witnessing his internal struggles about the world, the loss of the wild, and how to save it made him feel more real. It was also a nice change of pace to get somewhat of a human perspective on the oil issues. I think my biggest takeaway of Ujurak from this book is he finally feels like a character rather than a walking destiny sign. I’m quite interested to see where he goes next book.
Overall, I think the pacing of this book was better than the last one, and the second half was much more exciting than a typical Seekers plot. I appreciated the break from walking somewhat aimlessly to actually having an immediate goal and being chased. It made the story feel more interesting, and upped the stakes a bit. I also liked the large scope idea the oil crisis brings in. I think moving onto the ice next book will make the world feel larger and hopefully hammer in that worldwide issue feeling.
I liked this series a lot at first. Bears going on a journey, with plenty of adventure and moments to be had. The writing is sort of juvenile but I got over it. But it got boring as they got to the last great wilderness and things sort of just started slowing down. I was not enjoying the book anymore, and I was actually skipping the chapters from Toklo’s PoV, and when you start wanting to skip the chapters of a novel, that is not a good sign. After they found the lgw, everything started feeling like fluff, with nothing exciting happening, and no ultimate purpose. I think that’s because I already knew the series ending, which seems anticlimactic to me, so I am simply not sticking around to be let down. However, the problems I have with it are relatively minor and it’s a good book if you can get past them. But I dnfed it because I would rather spend my time to read great books, not just good books. Problems: -The series takes one whole book to get started, and I’d say only got really good about halfway through book two -Language and metaphor one-dimensional, but that’s forgivable since it is an elementary book -Toklo is a grumpy character. I usually take no issue with this, but it becomes annoying after a while and he doesn’t seem to get any happier. -I’m not sure whether this happens later in the books, but no explanation is given to Ujurak’s abilities. Also, he’s doesn’t get a PoV until book 4, which seems like a weird choice. -(concerning the audiobook) The narrator is subpar… she gives Lusa an annoying, nasal-y voice and pronounces Taqqiq like “TAK-ihk” instead of “tak-EEK” -SPOILERS Apparently, the ending of the series culminates in destroying an oil rig. I mean, good for them, but it’s not like they saved bearkind or anything. I would have liked, say, that the humans were waking up some ancient demon bear that would decimate the wild and they would have to put it back. I mean, that’s not too much of a stretch, if Ujurak is a shapeshifter. Hey, maybe the demon is related to his powers?

***(in this review I will express my opinion about this whole series of books) It's a series of five books, related to the adventures of some bears, a series that is quite interesting, but I do not recommend it to children over thirteen, because it can become boring at some point... Anyway... It's a series of books that I remembered recently, this one reading two or three years ago, something like that and I wanted to share a few aspects with you, to tell you that it's a series of books that captivate you in one way or another, the events being some interesting, which can keep you breathless, wishing to continue reading each chapter( because the events are some pleasant, or less pleasant, with injuries, loss of friends, relived of old moments, pain, childhood traumas, but all this leads to happiness....there are happenings and from the very, very perspective of those bears, the perspective that is easy to understand and easy to read, and besides there are many morals that can learn you something) and then to start the next book..
I guess I took a few days break while reading this which is why it took my so long to finish a book that can be read in as little as a couple of days…
Sooo I enjoyed the small bit of relief they all felt once they got to the great wilderness. I was so happy they were finally in a place where they had plenty of food and shelter to survive and thrive in. Obviously not all good things last forever, I thought it was a bit “weird” for a lack of a better term that some random men just kidnapped ujurak and the caribou people were just fine with it?? Idk maybe it’s just me but I thought it was weird no one really spoke up about it.
The rest of the gang were able to come together again and I think toklo is realizing he does much better in a pack rather than on his own. I hope he stays with them forever.
Excited to get to the next one and interested to see how they plan to “save the wilderness” while heading up further north.
Another journey, and another adventure for the four misfit bears. They are now learning that they must save the wild, and it is so evidently clear that humanity screed for all far outweighs the desire to save nature and in the wilderness. Are there humans out there that will help the bears or is it the Bears themselves that must save the wild. It was a good read, and I enjoy the group of bears. I look forward to reading the next novel in this series, and to see how their mission progresses.
Loved the ending! I could NOT STAND when they were looking for Urjurak and it took them forever through the end nearly getting killed to find him and then Urjurak becoming human AGAIN? Excuse me? I get its from a different perspective but. I love the message about the oil and how its hurting other animals and they're homes!
Change in the direction, from the Bears perspective that is, as they discover that they need to Seek a way to save the wild. Kind of saw that coming. Curious to see how this challenge gets met as it is a daunting task.
Took it on holiday with me I loved the previous three this one not so much, it’s a little bit dry and is maybe a builder for what is to come? Still love the characters and will be reading the last two
One of the weaker books in the series, but it introduces a little more on the environmental themes these books tackle. Not my favorite, but still well written.
A beautiful, enchanting, fantastic book! Loved it! One note though: I would have liked more 'journey', they spend most of the story in the city or in the plain. But overall it was a great book! Can't wait to read number 5.
I bought this book for my grandson when he was going through a difficult time. His father had passed away so I bought a series of them. He really liked them and after I read the intro and skimmed through it I wrote a review because I knew he would like them.
I chose this rating because it is a very good book series. Erin Hunter spent so much time and effort to make this book series and did an amazing job doing so.☺
