Novel Plus

“I’m counting to ten and then I’ll start shooting,” Sheriff Gray White balanced a rifle on one shoulder and held a spotlight at eye level effectively blinding the perp.

“My name’s Sorcha McFadden, officer, and as you can see I’ve been skinny dipping,” his very naked, very sexy perp announced.

Stunned, White Wolf Gray can’t reconcile the nude, auburn-haired nymph, Sorcha, with his little sister’s childhood best friend. Especially when fate and his own body decree her his mate.

At thirteen, Sorcha watched Gray screwing Tonya Hazzard, the captain of the cheerleading team, from her perch in the hayloft. The image of his pumping hips invaded Sorcha's every fantasy, propelled her every climax from that day forward.

They're destined for each other, except... Sorcha doesn't believe in the supernatural, but her life—as well as the answers to the mystery surrounding her parents' murder-suicide fifteen years—earlier depend on it. Gray's the only thing standing between her and certain death, but her grandmother's last message was "Trust no one." Does that include Gray?

Honestly dont know how this book has so many great reviews, I only finished it because I wanted to know who was behind the murders and even that was mediocre.

All the men seemed to be either misogynistic or unbelievably sexist, most especially Gray. I was not rooting for him and sorcha to get together, in fact I wanted her to end up on her own rather than be with him. He deliberately got her pregnant, but oh wait, its okay, because even though she said she needed time, didnt want to rush into anything and she didnt want kids just yet by this point she realised she loved him so getting her pregnaunt was a good thing. Errrr no.

The overprotectiveness was not endearing, it was infuriating, I mean come on, the way the vet agreed to call Gray for the autopsy for Sorcha's bird, behind her back. What are all these men on?! And oh, even though someone broke in and tried to kill the birds, and actually managed to kill one, lets not tell the poor little lady even though its so freaking obvious after she found them!

The thing was, because of the way the men had their little club of we must not tell our women anything, and our women are too weak and cannot protect themselves, when the women actually tried to stand up to the men it just came across as childish and immature. Seriously these women need to find some new men.

Also hated how every time Sorcha left Grays sight, or didnt tell him where she was going etc etc, something bad happened and so reinforced that oh shes a weak female who cannot look after herself.

Oh and the amount of time the word honey was used made me want to shoot myself.

Dont know if ill try the next book, the thing is it could have been a decent book, but all my previous points and some other stuff just ruined it for me.

One of the main reasons I give a book FIVE stars is if I cannot put it down or if I HAVE to put it down I can't wait to get back to it. White Wolf is one of those books. I started it around Noon, then had to put it down to go to my nephew's birthday party. The whole time at the party I couldn't wait to get home and start reading again, I stayed up til the wee hours of the morning to finish it.

White Wolf is a paranormal, erotic, suspense/mystery. Gray is ultra ALPHA but so tender and loving when it comes to his family and Sorcha.

Carlo's writing flows well and her character development is very good. In a few scenes, the author falls back on Gray's supernatural speed to explain items conveniently appearing in a scene, rather than fleshing out those parts of the story more. I found myself slightly confused in the beginning of the story as the author did not fully describe the cabin Sorcha lives in, but later went into some detail about parts of the house that drastically altered my mental picture of it.

Damn I mean damn…this book started absolutely wonderfully. The initial scene in this book was enough for me to want to get my toys out. Well written and if you are into the wolf mating heat scenario's then well worth the read. It did tend to drift a bit here and there but was enough to keep me engaged till I finished the book.

White Wolf by Jianne Carlo is a fast-paced wonderfully erotic book with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes. Sorcha McFadden and Gray White are no strangers, Sorcha was best friend to Gray's kid sister, and that's how Gray thought of her for years...until that fateful night he caught her skinny dipping. Animal instincts on instant alert and in overdrive, Gray can't keep his mind (or anything else) off Sorcha, who is only too happy to comply.

When people in the small town of Twisp begin being murdered by a serial killer, Gray and Sorcha find themselves at the center of a gruesome mystery. Why these people, why now? The biggest mystery of all: Who in such a small town, could possibly be behind the murders?

White Wolf by Jianne Carlo is a fabulous read. It is well written and got me hooked right from the first paragraph and never let go until the end. Gray and Sorcha's story has mystery, lust, intrigue and love all in one. The sex scenes are steamy and very descriptive. I liked that the story had some Canadian geography included being from Canada myself and having been to the places mentioned. This definitely earns a rating of BLAZING!

I can't wait to read more of Jianne's works and hope they are as well written as White Wolf is incredibly detailed storyline. I was drawn in almost like I was in the story itself and part of the scenery.

Contrary to most "porn with a plot" this story does have a plot and a good one to boot.

It makes for interesting reading with quite a bit of suspense and Indian folklore that will keep you hooked until the last page.

It reminded me quite a bit of the Quileute legends, and some of the physical aspects are actually taken from dogs' (and presumably wolves') mating process. The characters are nicely developed and the bit of mystery and family history does not hurt at all; very enjoyable bedtime reading. Reviewed by Rina

This is a hard book for me to review. I can’t quite decide if I like this book, or if I hate it. When I scanned through my bookmarks, read my notes, I realized I feel somewhere in the middle. Because some of it I loved, it was new, fresh, and excited. Then there were parts I struggled to get through, and frankly didn’t understand.

When I started the book, I loved it so much that I grabbed the second one instantly. I really like Sorscha and Gray. It began with hot, steamy sex, and it developed really quickly. However, it started to lose flow and a bit of focus. Suddenly, we were smack in the middle of a murder mystery with a serial killer. Huh? I was confused. The plot shifted so dramatically that it was jarring and I had to take a break for a few days. I read a different book, and started again. It was interesting, the concept. Wolves that don’t shift but have all the instinct of the beast. Awesome, love it, it works for me.

I loved Sorscha! She was a strong female lead considering all she had been through in her life. And, although she slept with Gray right out of the gate, she didn’t fall hopelessly in love with him. I loved that about her. Her inner dialogue was very real, and believable. Gray, I started to dislike more and more. He just didn’t stay alpha enough for me. The ensemble of characters as a whole in the book were great. They weren’t cookie cutter, and you could pick them all out.

The murder was solved way to easy. The author did a great job of giving enough hints but not giving away the whole cow. The ending was very satisfying and worked very well for me.

I think the author lacked something in the telling of a murder mystery. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. Like I said, it was a good story, but I found it to be choppy and jarring at times. I would say very honestly to give this book a chance. It is the first in a series and the first book sometimes suffers from world building and info dump to get the reader immersed in the fantasy.

White Wolf by Jianne Carlo
Paranormal Shape-shifter Romance- July 14, 2009
4 stars

White Wolf is a Paranormal Romantic Suspense about the Sheff, Grey White and his sister's best friend, Sorcha. Sorcha is in town after her grandmother passes away which brings back a lot of feelings from the past that were suppressed. The plot is suspenseful and interesting because the book involves a mystery that centers around murders that are tied together. Who murdered Sorcha's grandmother? Are the murders tied together?

As Grey investigates and answers these questions, he is scared for Sorcha's life. Both main characters make mistakes, but redeem themselves and grow together. The one character I was really annoyed at was Tanya, one of Grey's flings. The reader knows that he's not really interested in her, but bring up this secondary character a couple of times in the book. I wish the book showed more villain in her. She just seemed to be an annoyance, since we don't know much about her except that she was a fling. Besides that character, the heroine is lovable and the hero is a strong alpha male character who is possessive, dominating, yet completely gentle and loving when it involves Sorcha.

The writing style was different from what I was used to, but the dialog and character interactions were very telling. It was definitely a sensual read. But the steamy scenes were all tied emotionally together, which I really liked. This book definitely made me interested in other books by the same author. I would recommend it to others.

I have mixed feelings on this one. On the one hand, it was so not what I expected, there was more depth to the story and it was longer than I originally realized. The writing was pretty good but there were several times I was either lost or confused at the terminology and the way the story was laid out. Unfortunately it didn't really capture my interest and by the end I was happy to be done with it. On the other hand, and probably the only reason I was able to finish, the sex was super hot! And plentiful ;) I noticed that the other two books in this series are about couples that are already together in book one so I'm not sure I will read them... :(

A different take on shifters. This is an interracial romance- story about wolf spirits. They have the power of wolves but no shape shifting. There was always something going on in this story. There's a lot of sex, but there is also a story. The sex at time has some vulgar words so if you don't like that part you can just skim past it.

I'm not sure about this book. I was a little confused at times and at other times I was rolling my eyes. If I had to read the phrases "honey" and "three lines on his forehead" anymore I'd probably go crazy. The story or maybe it was the wording didn't flow at times and I had to go back and reread certain parts thinking I had missed something. At least the two MCs had known each other before so it gave them a little more believable instant romance. I'm going to read the next book in the series and hopefully I'll like it better cause there is a lot to like about this book. For instance, the wolf spirit in the person, but not being able to actually shift into one. The MC being in law enforcement was something I liked along with the involvement of the RCMP. The sex was pretty hot too.

A great story. Kinda jumped around and took a long time to explain things. I was kinda irritated when I checked in the next book in the series and discovered they are not in chronological order. I hate reading events/stories out of order. This should be listed as the third book not the first!

Loved this book, read it straight through with very few breaks. Between trying to figure out the mystery and the hot steamy sex between Sorcha and Gray, my mind was reeling. This is the first book I've read from this author, but will definitly be reading more of her work.

I liked this book but I didn't love it. What I didn't love was it was very hard to follow because there was so much going on. Even at the end there was still confusion for me. That being said I loved Gray and Sorcha, they had great chemistry and altogether this is classic from this author. I like her primal series better but this is still a book worth picking up.

Going to go on a very short limb and say Jianne Carlo is a male author writing under a female pen name. Some can make it work- he can’t. A description of the female character back when she was a pre-teen starts with her breasts and posterior- and that’s just the first few pages, the misogyny gets far worse. This book reads like an incel forum.

This book drove me crazy! Honestly the entire time I was completely confused about where on earth this story was taking me. For two thirds of it I didn't know what kind of creatures I was dealing with. Werewolves? Vampires? Fae? Demons? I didn't know. My biggest problem with this book was the romance, simply because you can hardly call it a romance! So Sorcha returns to her home town, get's caught skinny dipping by Gray, the guy she had a childhood crush on but really doesn't know and hasn't seen or spoken to in years, then leads him into her cabin and sleep with him without giving it a second though? yeah, very romantic. The entire book I wanted to scream at Sorcha to grow a backbone. The whole relationship, if you can even call it that, seemed totally forced on her. Gray was all "Your my mate, nuff said", this kind of thing is seen a lot in these kinds of books right now and normally I don't have a problem with it because the other half is always supper in tuned to the whole mate thing to, like they get it, they agree. Sorcha on the other hand seem tentative times a hundred. It really didn't read like she wanted Gray for anything more than sex or to catch her when she fainted -something she did a lot. And it wasn't just Gray who kept pressuring her into the mate relationship. Suzie, who is supposed to have been her best friend growing up was all "Get used to it, you'll like it, don't worry about it, it's inevitable so who cares that you may not be ready and that you have a ton of emotional shit going on right now and totally don't this right now" Honestly Sorcha was more of a little puppy in my eyes. Gray came in, said come, and she came. She totally forgot about what she needed to the point of weak, annoying, stupidity. I mean really, at no point in this book was she given a break from the people who supposedly love her. Personally I like my heroins to have some trials, because that means they can overcome them and truly show there strength, but not this time. No, when Sorcha was faced with a problem she got all panicky and promptly fainted or needed harsh reassurance from Gray, who often thought about or did shake her just to get her to speak. To be frank, I don't have a clue how these to characters could be mates. Sorcha is the type to need calm reassurance and patience, whereas Gray needs a girl with a backbone ans some attitude to battle out his tough love impatient alpha tendencies. All in all, I was board, the plot sucked, the characters are stupid, the heroin is timid and no one really did anything to help her.

Sorcha McFadden back in town after her Grandmothers death has been in love with her friend Susie’s older brother Gray since she was 13. Gray is a member of the White Wolf Clan. They have the power of wolves but no shape shifting. He also has an affinity for fire and water (which I would have thought were mutually exclusive). Sorcha had originally left town after her father killed her mother, shot Sorcha and then turned the gun on himself. Or did he? Sorcha has no memory of the incident. But know that she is back some memories are returning. On top of that Gray’s wolf has recognized Sorcha as its mate and is impatient to claim her. He has waited a long time to find her. There is murder and mayhem and a lot of steamy sex.
This is billed as an interracial romance. I would call it more Paranormal than interracial. I enjoyed the story. It’s been on my TBR shelf for a long time and I was reminded of it when I hit Jianne Carlo’s web site on a blog hop. I bumped it up and am glad I did. I will check out the next installment soon.

Rounding up on this one.

White Wolf took me by surprise - I wasn't sure if I liked it or not after the initial meeting of Gray and Sorcha, the hot sex, and the quick mating. That part was great, of course. Then, everything falls apart - dead bodies show up, birds are kidnapped, people are killed, we find out that Sorcha may be a mental basketcase from the murder/suicide of her parents years ago. Did I really want to read this in a romance novel? Turns out I did. I just wasn't expecting a mystery. But, nicely done.

OMG! I swear I didn't breathe reading this book. I started it way too late at night and then couldn't put it down. I had to brew a pot of coffee in the wee hours of the morning I was so determined to find out who'd done it.

This book is a paranormal romantic mystery taken to the max!

I won't spoil the mystery, so all I'm going to say is that it's a very different take on wolf shifters, the sex is amazing, the suspense is dramatic, and I need to re-read it! Soon.

Warning - there is a high level of gore in this book.
