Yuu Watase

Yuu Watase (渡瀬悠宇) is a Japanese shoujo manga-ka. She is known for her works Fushigi Yūgi, Alice 19th, Ceres: The Celestial Legend, Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden and Absolute Boyfriend. She likes all music, except heavy metal and old traditional music.

She received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo for Ceres, Celestial Legend in 1997. Since writing her debut short story "Pajama de Ojama" ("An Intrusion in Pajamas"), Watase has created more than 80 compiled volumes of short stories and continuing series. Because of her frequent use of beautiful male characters in her works, she is widely regarded in circles[which?] as a bishōnen manga artist.[citation needed] In October 2008, Watase began her first shōnen serialization, Arata: The Legend in Weekly Shōnen Sunday.
Her name is romanized as "Yû Watase" in earlier printings of Viz Media's publications of Fushigi Yūgi, Alice 19th, and Ceres, The Celestial Legend, while in Viz Media's Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden and Absolute Boyfriend her name is romanized as "Yuu Watase". In Chuang Yi's English-language versions of Fushigi Yugi (spelled without a macron or circumflex), her name is romanized as "Yu Watase".

TW: (Attempted) Rape, and discussions around rape.

I have to say, I do not remember Nuriko's arc going in this direction. Ugh! My heart! I do remember Tamahome's arc very well, however, so I guess my heart doesn't hurt too much. That's good, right? Right?!

Overall, I loved learning more lore behind the Four Guardians and meeting more celestial warriors. (2 Genbu and a few more Seiryu)

I believe this is the halfway mark! I cannot remember the last of the Seiryu warriors for the life of me, so I wonder if we'll meet them soon?

So much sadness in this volume....
Death and possible sexual assault....

The author is really going out of her way to put barriers in Miaka and Tamahome’s relationship....

I really love the Suzaku warriors. I’m always laughing when they are getting in trouble... Miaka makes me laugh the most. She’s so adorably funny.

There are just some character deaths you never get over, even if it has been over two decades since you first experienced it.

It wouldn't be a story with a "priestess" if someone didn't suddenly go "oooh hey! female purity" - yawp, enter the "girls must be virgins" cliche .... and we all know what that means! Another attempted rape for drama *headdesk* (complete with side-order of Idiot Heroine Runs Off Solo Because Reasons even tho it's known fact the weakest of enemy could rip her to ribbons by merely sneezing)

Start up that death clock countdown as the plot decides Celestial Warriors from either side now far more expendable!

On a positive note: Nuriko having female pronouns warms my cynical heart. Good choice, editor!
Also island of amazons women warriors that violently destroy men was an interesting lil stop on the way

My gosh! All the emotions are just flowing in: sadness, anger, bitterness, sympathy! My tears couldn't stop flowing! I know this is a 90's series, but it is such a classic masterpiece! Yû Watase referenced a lot of Chinese history and even traveled to several China cities -- I bet she used those as inspiration to build the Fushigi Yûgi world! Incredible series, and this volume multifolds the emotions in a package!

I watched and loved the Anime version of this since I was a kid. It also landed on my favorites.

For now, I got no plans for buying a copy.
