The EQ Interview: Finding Employees with High Emotional Intelligence

Rate this book
With a growing body of research showing that Emotional Intelligence is one of the key indicators of success, smart hiring managers know that choosing employees based on their EQ makes sense. What they don't know is the best way to do it. The EQ Interview gives readers the skills and understanding they need to assess candidates' emotional intelligence and ensure that they're the right fit for the job. This practical guide explains the five areas of emotional intelligence, and how these competencies enhance job performance. The book then arms interviewers with more than 250 behavior-based questions specially formulated to help determine how applicants have used their EQ in past experiences. Readers will learn how they can analyze and interpret answers to predict future success, and even spot "EQ frauds" to avoid costly hiring mistakes. Filled with insightful examples, this is the one book that shows readers how to factor emotional intelligence into their hiring process.

Excellent book with often overlooked insights into much more than just interviewing. For interviewers, this should be a must read, and the concepts should be put into your documented interview process (if you don't have one, this will help you create one). (See also the book "Who".)

I've been doing talent acquisition in HR for a long time. I found this book incredibly helpful for developing good EQ interview questions. The best thing about it is not only does it give you good questions to discern different types of emotional intelligence, it also tells you what a good answer looks like. All useful-not just theoretical. My coworkers and I had little tags on the pages with questions we used a lot. It's a very practical book and I highly recommend it to anyone developing interview questions.

What started as a simple question from a manager sparked a curiosity that led me to this book. It has since become an invaluable resource for understanding how to identify and hire individuals with high Emotional Intelligence. However, the true value of this book isn't just in the 'what' to ask; it is a guide for self-reflection and becoming the kind of leader that high-performers never want to leave. It provides a clear architectural roadmap for building a high-trust environment where both the leader and the team are empowered to perform at their highest level.

Probably an excellent reference for hiring managers. Certainly provides a lot of good suggestions for interview questions that will help explore candidate EQ. A little repetitive for the casual reader.
