Two years ago, Brendan Powell Smith embarked on a crusade to illustrate the entire Bible - all 66 books of the Old and New Testament - using only Lego bricks. Here, for the first time in print, are the earliest fruits of his labors. With more than 175 photographs in all, The Brick Stories from the Book of Genesis features ten classic tales as you've never seen them Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah's Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah, the Tower of Babel, and more. Every story is accompanied by original verses from scripture - and photographs of intricately detailed models composed out of thousands of Lego bricks. Whether you're a Christian fundamentalist, a devout atheist, or somewhere in between, you're bound to be dazzled by Smith's thoroughly original artistic vision.
Elbe Spurling (born September 7, 1973) is an American transgender artist, author, and moralist best known for The Brick Bible book series (published under her birth name Brendan Powell Smith)—an ongoing project to illustrate the entire Bible in LEGO building blocks.
Although not religious, Spurling has studied the Bible, ancient Christianity and Judaism, and is motivated by the belief that all people, whether believers or not, are better off knowing the content of the scriptures. Her unique storytelling and illustrating style has been noted for its meticulous attention to detail, and its ability to walk a fine line between humor and poignancy.
She also creates art pop music under the artist name ɘlbe and released her debut LP "gɘtting thɘre" in fall 2016.
This book features stories from that wacky book "The Bible" and they are all depicted completely with legos! I'm serious! Never before has the bible actually been interesting. See if you can find the lego beastiality (apparently that's like sinful). It's hard to spot! This books rules...But you don't have to take my word for it! Da da duh!
Despite the fact that these stories are depicted using Lego characters, they are definitely not geared for children. For this reason, I found the book rather ambiguous. Mr. Smith may have meant this to be an original look at the Bible, but reading through this book made me uncomfortable. Children's toys should not be depicting adult themes such as drunkenness and murder.
Overall enjoyable. I am disappointed that Smith ends abruptly with Joseph being brought to Egypt in chains. Joseph's dream interpretations, rise to power under Pharaoh, and his dramatic family reunion all seem Lego-worthy to me.
The Brick Testament: Stories from the Book of Genesis Smith, Brendan Powell this is so funny looking at snap pictures of lego figures telling bible tales
