Set in the 8th century in Romania when it was still known as Dacia, Moonwarriors tells the tale of a werewolf warrior named Walter Volknor. Once an innocent farm boy, he is out for revenge against Avatar, a master vampire that has slaughtered his family. The werewolf begins a crusade to destroy the evil vampire race. Other compassionate wolves join him in his obsession. Four wolves in particular, Golarin, Bordak, Mary, and Stytentos, aid Walter in his many adventures and become his best friends. Throughout Dacia, fear and honor are heaped upon his name and in due time, he is a beloved champion for werewolves and humans alike. However, just as his dreams of living a vampire-free existence are coming to fruition, a chain of tragic and horrific events unfold, leaving the land of Dacia in shock. This is the first tale in the Moonwarriors saga.
Around age six. I saw a movie entitled, "The Car". I had never seen a book for it, so I wrote my own. I had been obssessed with the book and movie "Jaws" since it came out when I was three. This was just the next step I guess. That's how it started. I found I liked it so much, I continued to write off and on all my life. I didn't get serious about it until I was in my early twenties. I owe alot to that shark and demonic automobile. Now, I know that there IS a novel for "The Car". It's very rare. (Laughs) I own both the book and film. One of my favorites.
My favorite werewolf film or movie that I enjoyed the most and why?
That's a tough question to answer. The original "Howling" movie is one of the greatest werewolf films of all time besides "An American Werewolf In London" just for the transformation scenes alone, but the stories are very well written. The make up FX were ground breaking and awe-inspiring and to this very day, they still have the power to fascinate. Rick Baker and Rob Bottin are THE guys when it comes to werewolf changes and make up. I also liked "Bad Moon" and "Project: Metal Beast". Very good movies. The werewolves look good in both. Overall, I'd say it was 'The Howling" though because of the well-written story and the incredible transformation FX by Rob Bottin. It's a classic.
What was it about the horror genre that drew me into writing about werewolves?
Well, I love horror in general, but werewolves are one of my favorites. They've always fascinated me.They're big, powerful, and can be downright scary. One of the most popular horror icons is the werewolf, only second to the vampire. In recent years though, it seems the werewolf is not only enjoying another resurgence of interest but is beginnning to surpass the vampire in popularity.
Please tell us a little about my first book.
Moonwarriors is the story of Walter Volknor, a young werewolf farmer who witnesses his family's slaughter at the hands of master vampire Avatar and his underlings. Heavily influenced by his father's teachings of honor and good and evil, he sets out to destroy not only Avatar but the entire vampire race. Along the way, the mighty Lycanthrope battles and defeats corrupt kings, demons, evil werewolves, sorcerers, and zombies (called ghouls in the novel).
Lovers of werewolf and vampire lore, you are about to embark on an adventure like no other. I was hooked from the beginning to the end. This is a juggernaut of a book. It takes two of the most famous monster legends of werewolves and vampires and clashes them together. The wording is imaginative and descriptive and doesn't bore you in the slow moments of the story. The characters are strong and extremely well developed. There are werewolf and vampire transformations all through the book with plenty of lycanthrope vs nosferatu action. Moonwarriors is the story of Walter Volknor, a young werewolf farmer who witnesses his family's slaughter at the hands of master vampire Avatar and his underlings. Heavily influenced by his father's teachings of honor and good and evil, he sets out to annihilate not only Avatar but the entire undead evil vampire race. Along the way, the mighty Lycanthrope battles corrupt kings, demons, evil werewolves, sorcerers, and zombies (called ghouls in the novel). During his many journeys he meets other heroic werewolves that join him in the crusade. I felt exhausted like I had lived the main character's life. I've never read anything like it. I was left wanting more. If you are fascinated with werewolves and vampires, you will love this book. Mr. Nugent has written a great tragedy.
I read for enjoyment and I enjoyed what I read. I only read preview pages but in doing so, my interest was caught. Some of the more flowery words need to come down a notch and be shown in action. I have no complaints about the story line and where it is leading the reader. If you read for the joy of reading, I would suggest you sample Moonwarriors. It has a new take on an old theme of werewolves and vampires.Moonwarriors
Unlike the book this review will be short but sweet. This book was so terrible I could not even finish reading it. I threw it in the trash where it belongs.
I love this book. It's the first that I got signed and a personal note written inside by the author. Love how he uses history to tell his story. My only problem with this book is it's a little to risque for my tastes. But other than that an story and well written.
