I was thinking of giving this book a 2.5 rating, but I'm not quite sure. This is my first novel from Andrew Daddo, and I'm not really impressed. I did not like Ash's mum one bit and if it was me I would not have listened to her or gone to the stupid health farm <--- those were the main reasons I didn't really enjoy the book. (And did anyone else think that Ash was a girl? The cover confused me a lot because when I got the book I *facepalm* thought it was a girl on the front cover. But now I can totally see how I was wrong.) I'm now currently reading one of Andrews other books (Youse Two) And I have to say it's much better so far than this one. Of course this is just my opinion and I'm sure there are other people who enjoyed this book.
And in the description of this book it says "And unless your dad′s big on saying no to everything before realising he should have said yes." I don't think there was any evidence of this in the book and if there was then I missed it :/
Muffin top was an interesting, light read, with quite a few laugh-out loud moments. However, I thought the main character, Ashton, acted a little older than his actual age . Also, the book focuses heavily on how over-weight the Limpid family is, when at the end, we discover that they aren't really all that big at all. If it weren't for the passages and pages in which I laughed quite a bit, I would have given this book 2 stars. Overall, this book was an interesting, light read with a few laughs that looks at body image, family dynamics and overall wellbeing aimed at a somewhat juvenile audience.
