The New Lawyer's Handbook is a set of recommendations from a practicing private law attorney who gives interesting information about different aspects of the private legal practice. Although it is mainly about the US law practice, many issues the author touches upon are relevant to other legal systems. Especially, the parts about the behavior of attorneys and how to manage a balance between legal practice and private life.
Not for lawyers with prior professional experience...
I feel very strongly that the title of this book and its synopsis are misleading- instead of giving information a new lawyer would be looking for, it gives fairly limited advice on things that for the most part could be solved with common sense and practicality. While it may be helpful for those few lawyers who never worked in a professional environment before going into law, it is a waste of time for those people who have had internship, summer associate work, or law clerk gigs prior to joining a firm.
Absolutely loved this book. Easy to comprehend The New Lawyers Handbook by Karen Thalacker offers practical insights for lawyers who have just began their legal profession. The author enlightens new lawyers on issues that are otherwise overlooked or considered trivial. This book made me already upbeat and geared up for the profession.
Really a great tips for budding lawyers or the lawyers already in the profession. Ideas, tips, best practices is still relevant and in usage. Thanks Karen Thalacker for this masterpiece really loved the book.
A handbook that lends a helping hand to those just out of law graduates who are planning to practice law as a career. This book contains How's and Why's that a newbie lawyers needs to be equipped for a better practice. This book may not contain something new that a recently graduated newbie does not know about, but puts all at one place and acts as guide.
Its only for the newbies as the title of the book says not for those who are already practicing or someone in general. May shed some light for those who are already practicing but not organised and wants to know eagerly of how to make amends to their disorganised work flow..
I had this book lying around for quite a while. I would read one of the many short chapters once in a while. Finally, I had some time to finish it this weekend. Most of the advice is common sense. There is nothing in it that is life changing or is going to make you the best lawyer in the history of the world or anything. I imagine it would make a thoughtful gift for any recent law school grad you know.
