The Chandler Brothers from New York Times Bestselling Author Carly Phillips are back!

He’s got wanderlust and no intention of settling down.
She’s home to stay and has put her bad boy ex in her rearview mirror.

After spending his life abroad, embracing his freedom at every turn as a foreign correspondent, Roman Chandler finds himself the brother nominated to deal with his ailing mother’s matchmaking shenanigans. Thanks to a coin toss, he needs to find someone to marry and fast. It shouldn’t be that hard in sleepy Yorkshire Falls where women fall over themselves to hook a Chandler man.

But Roman only wants the one woman who got away.

Charlotte Bronson is back home to put down roots and get her lingerie business off the ground. She’s not interested in her past or a man that chose to chase breaking news stories to the far corners of the earth over her. No matter how good they used to be or how combustible their chemistry still burns.

It’s up to Roman to convince Charlotte he’s a changed man and here to stay.

This book was Garbage. If you want to lose faith in humanity read this book. Every character in this novel is selfish, self centered, hurtful, liars, manipulative, and have zero care about others feelings.

The only character I liked in this book is Sam the homeless guy.

Btw was h father even faithful to his wife? The ending was ok that why I gave it 2 stars instead of one.

Wow now I see why this had bad ratings. I forced myself to keep reading until page 53. I'm sorry but this book just drags on and on. I'm so shocked because I love this author. I never found myself not wanting to keep reading. I didn't finish it so my review is based on the beginning. The story was there just had to be juiced up a bit. It was funny at times.

Too repetitive and annoying.
Also, the best friend had sex with the hero back in high school.
After the heroine dumped him. So How do you drown your sorrows and save your ego? By sleeping with her best fri nd. And yes, they are still best friends after ten years.WTF?
Every couple of paragraphs we need to know how the hero doesnt want to stay in one place.
And on the other paragraphs why the heroine needs stability.
the mother ploy is ridiculous. Just not as ridiculous as the sons solution.

I really liked The Bachelor, but I didn't quite love it as much as I had been hoping that I would. Roman and his initial desire to find a woman to marry, have a baby with them, and who would be okay with staying home to raise their child on her own for the most part all to give his mother a grandchild like she wanted Roman and her sons to definitely diminished my enjoyment of the romance aspect of the book to a certain extent; which definitely isn't a good thing considering the fact that this is a romance novel. While I was glad to see Roman realize the flaws in his plans for marriage earlier in the book given Charlotte's backstory, instead of Phillips having Roman maintain that way of thinking until pretty much the end of the book; Roman's interest in pursuing Charlotte romantically with those intentions in mind definitely went on a lot longer than I think that it should have.

Charlotte, on the other hand, was a great and likable character with a very engaging backstory from beginning to end. The Bachelor is also filled with really great supporting characters, several fun subplots, and I love the way that Phillips portrayed the small town setting of the book. The Bachelor is actually the first Carly Phillips book that I've ever read, and despite the complaints that I have about it, I still had a ton of fun reading this book; so The Bachelor definitely won't be the last of her books that I read! :)

My rating/score: 3 1/2 out of 5 stars on Goodreads' rating system / 7 out of 10 on my own personal scoring system.

I love a good Carly book. This was one i actually didnt read when it first came out so I was excited to hear it was republished.

This was a story with a nice plot, some steamy scenes and great characters. It was a little slow at times but I did enjoy it. I can't wait to read the rest of the Chandler brothers.

Coin Toss

Carly Phillips Chandler Brothers bk 01 The Bachelor

I read this years ago when I was plowing through Carly's backlist. The audio popped up during a library search, so I figured why not. I had forgotten more than I remembered, but I really enjoyed revisiting the Chandlers, in particular Roman Chandler, Charlotte Bronson, and the varied characters that make up the small town of Yorkshire Falls.

“Anyone ever tell you that you Chandlers are like hurricanes?”
-- Charlotte Bronson

Charlotte and Roman have very different reasons for remaining unattached. I like the history they shared and how they stumbled back into each other's lives.

Raina may have overplayed her hand a bit when it came to her actual health. The fact that her boys take the path they chose to amend for their bachelor ways is kind of comical, even if it's also ridiculous.

I read along with most of the audio book of the original release. The narrator is William Dufris. It's the first time I've listened to him and I like him.

Story: 4 stars
Narration: 3.5 stars

I don't normally read romance novels, but I picked up this book on a whim. I was looking for a quick and enjoyable beach read; that's exactly what I found. The novel is set outside of my hometown (Albany, NY) which gained my interest from the start. The Chandler brothers are likable characters; I was completely entertained by their girl dramas. For those afraid to read it because it is labled "romance," it wasn't too steamy -- I'm the kind that gets a little embarassed by that. It was just pure entertainment.

I read the 2nd book, The Player, as soon as it came out. I was waiting for the 3rd book, but forgot all about it. I'll definitely have to read it poolside during my spring break.

This was the book that started my Carly Phillips obsession. Even after 20 years, the story is still one of my favorites. Roman Chandler does not want to be tied down in one place or to one person. Along with his two brothers, they flip a coin and he ends up the lucky one to settle down and give his ailing mother what she always wanted, a grandchild. The only problem with the plan is Charlotte Bronson. She is back in town and still as beautiful as when she turned Roman down in high school. He will stop at nothing to make sure she is his. This is such a great second chance story for two people that are running from issues that happened to their parents. They are too afraid of falling in love and having something happen that destroys them. The characters are just as amazing as I remember. I was hooked at the very beginning, and it was like being reunited with old friends. Such a feel good read!

He was a womenizer...
All three brothers fucked half the female population of the town..
H even fucked her own best friend Beth many times in school and was planning to do it again when he met her in the restaurant 😡
Then his brother told her she was engaged to a very wealthy plastic surgeon !
Otherwise he almost proposed Beth to be his baby Mama !
Since nobody was available he asked h ,so that he can give his mother the grand child she wanted and go on his merry way alone to Womenizing and moving around the world 😧

I enjoyed the book just like any other Carly Phillips' books. It's hilarious, with likeable characters and palpable chemistry. I loved the story plot even though I wasn't expecting it to be that steamy because I never read the first version of the book. Do you know what I loved more? The chase between Roman and Charlotte. Roman had his work cut out for him. It did start off slow, but by half of the book, I was hooked.

4.5 star Review of The Bachelor (Chandler Brothers #1) by Carly Phillips
I was so excited when I learnt that Carly Phillips was updating and re -publishing her Chandler Brothers series. There are three brothers, Chase, Rick and Roman and this book is Roman and Charlotte’s story. Returning home when their mother is rushed to hospital the brothers’ come up with a plan to make their mother Raina happy. After a toss of the coin, it is determined that Roman needs to find a woman and marry ASAP.
Roman is a globe trotting foreign corespondent and Charlotte is the one who got away. This is a great second chance at love story that ticked boxes for me. Roman believes he can get married and still roam the globe, while the last thing Charlotte wants is a husband like her father who was away more than he was home.
Returning home to Yorkshire Falls, Charlotte knows it is time to settle down and concentrate on her lingerie business. Their ideas for the future could not be more different and yet the attraction and chemistry that sizzles between Roman and Charlotte is too hard to ignore.
Raina, the matriarch of the Chandler family was a hoot, she knows how to manipulate her sons (in a good way) and is determined to see them settle down and give her the grandchildren she desires. I have to say she had me laughing at times with her plans and manipulations.
As I have come to expect from a Carly Phillips book, The Bachelor was well written and she soon had me hooked on the story she wove. It was a passionate, steamy, witty that I thoroughly enjoyed.
I cannot wait to read the next brother’s story.

This book was so funny and so lighthearted and I loved it. I loved Charlotte and Rowan's characters respectively. I also loved the character development that Rowan had because it was immaculate. I also loved the subplot and this world was just great. I can't wait to continue the series with The Playboy.

Pure drivel.

I can't remember ever thinking a book was completely worthless, but I've reached that point with this one. From it's shaky premise to its cookie-cutter characters, The Bachelor encompasses everything I've come to hate in chick-lit.

Only in a movie would the mother of three sons fake illness in some passive-aggressive plot to get her non-committal sons into starting a family -- and only in a bad novel would the sons acquiesce. The three sons resort to a coin toss to see who will fulfill their "dying" mother's wishes, and the feeble conflict revolves around the tug-of-war between the loser's reluctance to marry/impregnate a woman and his unwillingness to disappoint his mother.

Give me a break.

And it only gets worse from there -- apparently the Chandlers and every other character in the book are so close to one another that they know everything that everyone else is thinking. I grew up in a small town in Delaware. I understand the small-town atmosphere -- there's no such thing as a secret because everyone knows everyone else. But there's a difference between knowing how everyone in your small town thinks and knowing what exactly they are thinking. Apparently, the Chandler men come from not just a small town, but a small town full of psychics.

I hadn't intended to give it such a scathing review, but I couldn't stop once I started.

The story of Roman Chandler, the youngest of the three heartbreaking Chandler brothers, and Charlotte Bronson, the one that got away.

Roman has been all over the world as a journalist, doing what he loves, and has every intention of continuing to do so, but a coin toss between him and his brothers changes everything. Their beloved mother whose health is ailing, wants them to give her grandchildren, and he's taking one for the team.

Charlotte wants nothing more than planting roots with someone, having seen how unhappy her mother was due to her wanderer father's ways. So when Roman, a known wanderer, uhm... wanders back into her life, she's not very keen to let him stay, despite their history and sizzling attraction.

He knows that she's not what he's looking for, yet can't resist getting close to her, and she knows that he's not what she's looking for, but can't resist him either, and the two start an affair, that makes them realize that maybe they don't know as much as they thought.

A light, amusing story that introduces the Chandler brothers, with Rick, the middle brother's story coming next in The Playboy.

With Valentine's Day slowly approaching I felt like reading some light romantic novels , and what a better way to start with The Bachelor , by Ms Carly Philips . This was the first installment of the Chandler Series

This is the story about the youngest Chandler brother Roman , an international journalist who enjoys his job , his freedom and his bachelorhood more than anything , but everything changes when he was called back home for a family 'emergency' and when he goes back to his hometown he gets reunited with someone special from his past that will change his world upside down .

Charlotte Bronson , the heroine in the story does not want to have the same 'fate' as her mother who only found happiness whenever his wander of a father is in town , and when she gets reunited with Roman , an international journalist she was afraid of repeating her parents mistake , but some how in the end they both found the happiness they were seeking and she was the first woman to settle down with one of the Chandler men.

This a lovely light romantic read and an enjoyable story a totally different style from the usual books I read , but this sure captured my attention enough to continue the entire series .

Oh man! I don't think I even made it to 50 pages. Seriously? The dude thought he could find a chick, sweep her off her feet, marry her, get her pregnant all while keeping his career in tact. Therefore after the baby was born, to appease his "dying mother" (why do mothers really think they know everything and come on, faking an illness?) Geez.
I digress. And then after said baby is born he jets off to places unknown to continue his exciting travel-journalism career.
Anyway, the guy (the main character- I'm so disgusted by him I can't even remember his name) thinks he is Gods gift and women would kill to marry him. Yet, he's 30 and not married because commitment is not for him? And the mom thinks she has raised a decent gaggle of boys? She needs to "find them a good woman" so she can have grandkids before she dies. Seriously? That's her one goal? It should have been raising sons that valued women.
Now, I know that some women are in it for the sex as well, but this book paints them as kinda dumb. Yay women's lib and all that. But come on.

Argh. Enough time wasted on this book. There are those that enjoyed it. And to them I say - were we reading the same book?
Cheers.

I was looking for something fluffy and am not generally one to nitpick writing style or grammar in books I am reading for amusement but the poor writing was beyond distracting. I honestly had to look to see if it were self-published and the author didn't have an editor to make sure everything made sense.

I tried listening to the audiobooks of this series during my commute and tried the second one in case things had improved at the second attempt... sadly not. I swear if I had to hear the word "gaze" one more time... Why was everyone was gazing at everyone else?! All. The. Time. Given that word implies intensity, I highly doubt that everyone was doing that at every moment regardless of their relationship. A town full of people staring intently at each other all times is incredibly offputting.

The use of phrases that also didn't make sense popped up frequently. If I can remember a specific example or two, I'll edit my post to include them. Some scenarios seemed highly implausible and pieces didn't always hang together for me.

I couldn't get past these things enough to even try to enjoy this for the fluffy, easy story I was hoping for. Yikes!

Roman Chandler, the foreign news correspondent, has returned home temporarily to find a wife and get her with child. He then intends to desert her and return to his own life of hunting down the next story. Admirably, he is doing this to appease his ill mother who wants grandkids before she dies. However, this scenario is hardly admirable. he's looking for a broodmare who will live alone with no assistance from her husband.

So I really can't say that I enjoyed this book. Roman is a nice enough guy with most things but I just couldn't get past this attitude eventhough he eventually does.

Terrible book. Save your money and go to the movies or something. The writing was awful, the “sex” scenes were lack luster and reminded me of what my 16-year old virgin self thought sex was. Clearly the author has never had sex, because grown adults don’t talk like that. If they do, clearly one of them has a mullet.

I first read The Bachelor many, many years ago. Probably close to 13 years now that I come to think of it. It was the second book I read by Carly Phillips after The Playboy - which is actually the second book in this trilogy but as always, I read the series out of order. As a standalone in a series this can be done. All of the Chandler brothers books are connected, but each is about one couple - Roman and Charlotte, Rick and Kendall, and Chase and Sloane.

Roman is a foreign correspondent who has no desire to settle down in his small upstate New York hometown looking at the same woman's face over the breakfast table for the rest of his life. Until his mother falls "ill."

Rayna Chandler, widowed at 37 who raised her three sons on her own wants one thing - grandchildren. Of course she wants her three wayward sons to settle down and find happiness with the women of their dreams too of course. But she's not getting any younger and a recent health scare brings into perspective what she really wants most. So she tells her sons that she has a serious heart problem and that her greatest wish before something worse happens to her is to be surrounded by grandchildren. Heavy dose of guilt there right? Even I'm feeling it and I'm undecided on the whole kids thing. 🤣

So, since oldest son Chase helped their mother raise Rick and Roman, the two younger brothers flip a coin to see which will be unlucky enough to have to find a woman, get married, and get said wife pregnant as soon as possible. And the unlucky bastard is... Roman. But hey, nobody said it had to be a marriage filled with love right? All he needs is a woman who wants children above all else who doesn't mind if her husband is gallivanting all across the world chasing the latest story. What could go wrong? (also - side note... does anyone else see a potential problem here? What if the wife he chooses has fertility issues and it's not just bing-bang-boom here comes baby?)

Insert Charlotte Bronson, the girl who got away. The one girl in high school that didn't fall at Roman's feet, the one he never got over. Back in their hometown and running a sexy lingerie store on the Main Street Charlotte knows she eventually wants to get married and have kids. But she doesn't want to repeat her mother's mistake of falling for a man that's always on the go for his job and never at home. That's why after their one and only date in high school Charlotte told Roman he didn't "do it" for her after hearing his plans to get out of town as soon as possible once school was over.

It must be fate that they're back in town at the same time. And Roman isn't going to let Charlotte go a second time, but can he convince her to give him a second chance?

The Bachelor is a cute, small-town romance about second chances. Parts of it make you laugh, other parts will melt your panties. This edition releasing today is the 20th anniversary edition, so the main content hasn't changed other than all three books in the series getting new covers and a few modernizations made throughout the book - pagers and blackberries become smartphones, Charlotte promotes her business through social media which didn't really exist/wasn't prominent when this book was originally published. Reading it again was like catching up with an old friend and remembering all the feels it gave me the first time, all those years ago.

It will appeal to new readers who like a dash of humor, a ton of heat, and that small town feel that's trademark to so many Hallmark movies. If you're looking for a new contemporary romance to steal your heart, look no further than The Bachelor.

Universal

When Roman's called home because of his mom's ailing health, he discovers he's on the hook for fulfilling her lifelong dream of having grandkids. But where is going to find a woman who will agree to a fake marriage? Well, not really fake, because he has to have kids to make his mom happy. Surely there's a woman who will agree to bear his children, but not tie him down or make him stay in their small town? But then he finds out Charlotte is back in town. THE Charlotte. The one who got away. She may be avoiding him but he'll do anything to convince her to give him a chance.

Too bad she's not interested in his little arrangement. Too bad she's intent on denying their connection. Too bad for her, her body can't get on the same page as her mind because he still affects her, damn him.

I had no idea this is the book that put Carly on the map, but I can see why because it's sweet and sexy and Roman and his brothers are charming as hell. It's easy to see that Roman and Charlotte's chemistry and connection is stronger than ever. I can't wait to read as all the Chandler Brothers fall in love.
