“A Devil's Bargain” by Emma Wildes

“Sold" were the last words that Lady Isabelle Edwards heard before she was given over to her new purchaser. After being captured by pirates on a ship sailing for America, Isabelle never would have thought in a million years that she would be put on the auction block and sold to some strange man who is drop dead gorgeous. Will Isabelle be able to accept being sold to a man who is an enemy of her father and determined to ruin her repetition? Or will she fall head over heals in love with him and surrender to her sexual desires?

Lord Devon Austin has had to flee his homeland after being accused of murdering a teenage boy by the King of England. When Devon recognizes the King's daughter on the auction block for sale, he decides to purchase the Kings daughter (Isabelle Edwards) for one thousand gold pieces. His plans are to ruin her repetition in order to get back at the King for falsely being accused of murder.

A Devil's Bargain is short, saucy novel full of Blackmail, and Passion. Palm trees, warm sand, clear blue water, and a gorgeous duke will have you turning the pages of Emma Wilde's sizzling book. I really loved this and enjoyed reading about Lady Isabelle's and Devon Austin's scorching relationship. Awesome book Emma, I look forward to reading more of your books.

Lady Isabelle was abducted and sold on the auction block. Her purchaser/rescuer is no noble hero. Instead, Devon Austin has recognized her as the daughter who perjured himself and accused him of murder, and he has every intention of using her for sexual purposes before sending her home to her father in disgrace. She is the perfect pawn for his revenge. But as expected, those pesky feelings get in the way and he's unable to be without her and so he accompanies her back to England in order to clear his name.

This was an okay and pretty quick read. Devon is not much of a prince, given that he only feels a niggling of guilt when he seduces the heroine as a means toward his revenge and takes her virginity. Consent is dubious since he now owns her and he's made a bargain for her willingness, and his callousness about the whole act sort of made it a bit more uncomfortable. He does lighten things up and it goes gently and she's not the standard heroine - she actually finds herself anticipating it and enjoying it very much, but still. My point is that he's really not all that great and honorable if he can actually use a woman like that. She's kind of Mary Sue - never once does she feel anger or despair. And she is miraculously able to see into the heart of the hero and know his true personality. There's a lot of steamy sex and the pair do fall in love pretty quickly. In fact, I suspect it's more Stockholm Syndrome on her part, but whatever. It was an interesting read.

steamy hot scenes in the first part; nice love story
however the second part dealing with Devon going back to England to reclaim his honor is long, not so interesting and in many ways not really realistic
