Getting Shipped! #6

If I'm going to be stuck with anyone, at least it's a hot fireman with that smile I can't seem to forget.

Brooks and I met three years ago when my best friend's boyfriend held a party to propose to her in front of all their friends -- in the middle of his goat farm.

Yes. You heard me. His goat farm.

When my eyes traveled across the driveway that night and landed on Brooks, I didn't count to ten. I didn't consult the saints. I took off at a casual pace, walking straight toward him. my hips swaying and my head held high. How could I not? Here in the middle of podunk Ohio stood the most captivating man I'd ever laid eyes on.

There's one small problem. Brooks fights fires in a small midwestern town. I live in Boston with my family and all the culture and opportunities a big city has to offer. So, after the best weekend of my life, I returned home, single. And I put him out of my mind--mostly. At least I tried to.

But, now Brooks is here, on this cruise. And just like before, I can't keep my eyes off him, especially when he's singing the Ohio state theme song off-key, with hand motions, on the stage of the dueling pianos show. Or when he's lounging by the ship's pool in only his board shorts. Ay. Mami. Is it hot in the Caribbean, or is it just that fireman?

I need to pull it together before I make the worst mistake of my life--falling in love with a man who's committed to living a thousand miles away from me.

Cruiseshipped is a laugh-out-loud, forced-proximity on vacation romcom with a hot firefighter book boyfriend and a sassy Puerto Rican heroine. Get away to the Caribbean and experience a bunch of midwestern shenanigans. You’ll get all the sizzle you ever wanted in a closed-door romance with a happily ever after that will leave you smiling!

Brooks & Gabriella first set eyes on each other at a proposal party for their friends. They have an instant connection, but alas it's not in the cards for them since he lives in Ohio and she lives in Massachusetts.

But then MeMaw & Bill are getting married and they both find themselves on the cruise for the nuptials. They make the most of their week together before they head back to their respective hometowns. Still, they can't stop thinking about each other so they try to make long distance work and fit in visits as their schedules allow.

Good golly this was adorable. Brooks was like the sweetest fella ever. And Gabby too. She really touched my heart when she included Jumbo, the lonely nephew of MeMaw, in their dinner plans. Can I get a whoop whoop for no 3rd act conflict! 🙌

We get a few chapters from Ella Mae which sets us up for the final book in the series Ripped & Shipped.

Overall, another delightful edition to the series.

Series notes:
Just read them in order, they're delightful.

Narration notes:
I'm very surprised to find out that Stephanie is not Puerto Rican because she did a very convincing accent. Will does great as always.

This book was absolutely amazing! I can easily say it is one of my favorites reads of the year! 10 pages into the book and I was already smiling ear to ear after reading what was one of the best meet cutes for me. The banter, the flirting, the guessing game! It was everything! Gabriella and Brooks have the most amazing chemistry right from the start.

Gabriella is such a fun character, full of life and fire! So, because of her fiery personality it is funny that she dates a fireman and even calls him Fuego (fire in spanish). I adored her nickname for him. Brooks is such a great guy! Someone you immediately love.

After a couple of meetings, Brooks and Gabriella find themselves together with their Bordeaux friends on a week-long cruise and agree to spend time together that week. You better believe that sparks fly and all the fun moments.

I literally loved everything about this book, but some of my favorite moments were the fireman calendar, (I laughed so hard) Brooks staying at Gabby’s family’s house, the friendship between Brooks, Duke, and Chris, Gabby and Brooks in jail, dancing in the street, ashes of problem clients, all the swoony kisses!

Besides all the fun, there are some heart wrenching moments as well, since Gabby and Brooks live in different cities and aren’t sure if they can be together once they arrive home. But don’t worry they get their HEA and it’s a real treat!

Savannah Scott has created a town and characters you just fall in love with. This book just had me smiling, laughing, and gushing! She writes the funny scenes so well and there are so many of them. This book is a gem! I can’t wait to see what’s next in Bordeaux as well as backtrack to some of the books in this series I missed.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

There’s a definite pattern with this series—each one I read becomes my new favorite, and I wonder how Savannah will be able to match the charm and fun of the previous story, but she does it. Every.Single.Time. So, here’s my new favorite and I loved EVERYTHING about this book! It is sweet, funny, heartwarming, and has the best HEA.

Brooks and Gabriela met 3 years ago and never stopped thinking about each other. They meet again on a Caribbean cruise, along with mutual friends and the seniors from Bordeaux, and the attraction and chemistry is as strong as ever. Gabriela suggests a week-long fling, to which Brooks agrees. This is closed door but their romance is sizzling, and the odds are high that what begins as a fling is going to turn into forever.

This is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Many thanks to the author for a gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

I tend to be hit-or-miss with fling romances, but this was wonderful and done in a way I've never seen. Overall there was really mature, genuine communication throughout that I appreciated so much.

And the chemistry between Gabriela and Brooks? Fiery! I lost count of the number of kisses in this one! Whew!

Despite meeting through mutual friends years ago and sharing an immediate connection, event planner Gabriela from Boston and firefighter Brooks from Bordeaux knew a romantic relationship would never work. But when the two end up on the same cruise to celebrate a wedding, they jump at the opportunity to spend a week together, no strings attached.

Gabriela was so fun, confident, and full of life. The shameless flirting between her and Brooks paired perfectly with the adventurous, close-quarters setting of a cruise. I loved the uncertainty of how this relationship would work in the end. Such beautiful moments of family and assessing what is important in life.

The sprinkles of humour were great—as always! I especially loved the addition of Jumbo, the eccentric "I live large, and love being in charge!" cruise roommate of Brooks. He was an absolute joy!

I had a really great time reading this one. (And if you’re a big fan of Duke from Censorshipped like I am, he makes plenty of delightful appearances!)

(heat level: kissing only)

¡Fuego! Loved this funny, romantic cruise ship adventure! It was so fun returning to Bordeaux, Ohio and also visiting Puerto Rico and other Caribbean ports of call. Ever since meeting Gabriela in Townshipped, I was wondering if we’d get her story. So excited to read about this fiery, strong woman and the equally amazing Brooks. Not only do we get their swoony, passionate romance, but the whole town of Bordeaux is there for the cruise with all their crazy antics. This book had me cry laughing, swooning, and smiling! It was an absolute perfect way to escape the snowy cold and visit a tropical paradise.

Gabriela (Gabby) & Brooks met several years before at Aiden & Mallory’s proposal. There was an instant connection, but since he lives in Bordeaux and she lives in Boston, they didn’t pursue anything. Now they meet up again, this time on a cruise celebrating MeMaw & Bill’s wedding. They agree to a shipboard romance, going their separate ways after the cruise. But, as they share adventure after adventure, including winding up in jail, will they be able to let each other go so easily?

Loved these two! Usually love at first sight is a little hard for me to believe, but these two made me a believer. Sometimes, there’s just that instant connection you have with people and it feels like you’ve known them your whole life. That’s the way I felt about these characters. They were just so perfect together that it made everything so believable. Their families were fantastic and I fell in love with them right along with Gabby & Brooks. Now I need Diego’s story!

Then there’s that laugh out loud humor Savannah Scott is known for! The jellyfish incident, social media updates from EllaMae, Jumbo, the fireman calendar (IYKYK), and the jail had me chuckling. I’m only mentioning a few. Loved all those one liners and witty descriptions along the way.

The last quarter of the book really solidified the relationship for me. I loved getting to know Gabby’s family and seeing how Brooks fit in. It was a realistic way to have these two come together that made me so happy. Also loved that they got to pursue their dreams.

This is definitely a must read, especially if you enjoy clean romcoms. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

OVERALL STAR RATING: 5/5
CLEAN RATING: 5/5

Picking up a Savannah Scott book is always a good idea and ALWAYS a good time! First you’re laughing, then you’re smacked with all the heartwarming feels, then you’re snort laughing again and so goes the beautiful cycle of her writing.

The entire Bordeaux crew is setting sail for the Caribbean to celebrate the marriage of Memaw and Bill. If you’ve met this cast of small-town characters before, you can only imagine the type of chaos that’s possible on an adventure such as this. Brooks, the town’s fireman, expected to feel out of place on the cruise being that all his friends are happily married. But then he runs into Gabriela (Gabby)…the fiery Puerto Rican he met at their friend’s wedding a while back. They had chemistry right from the get go, but Gabby lives all the way in Boston, so their distance makes things complicated. They decide however, for the sake of a fun cruise, to not let their distance hinder them from having a little romantic “fling” if you will while on the trip. CLEAN and closed-door story folks, I promise. Lots and lots of kisses though.

I loved how self-aware Gabby is of her larger-than-life personality. She thinks she’s too much for men. “More fun than a carnival” – complex and challenging, but not at all unlikeable. She’s forward, but not off putting. While Brooks is much more subtle in his ways and with his heart. BOTH have hearts of gold with a passion for family connection. The question is, how do they possibly move forward with a relationship after this cruise with so many miles between them?

Amazing side characters in this story! JUMBO, Brooks’ unexpected roommate on board the ship – oh man, this guy! LOL Crazy Hawaiian shirts and morning Richard Simmons workouts. There’s also a moment with Jumbo and a jellyfish that had me CRACKING up…and quite possibly a little too reminiscent of a real-life incident that my hubby and I experienced on our honeymoon! LOL

Another fantastic read in the Getting Shipped series that’s perfect for your Summer TBR!

Full of a quirky cast of young and old small town Ohio citizens, this vacation interracial romance between Mallory’s best friend Gabriela and new(ish) to town firefighter, Brooks gave me all the feels.

A complete opposites attract love story, Gabriela and Brooks hit it off immediately when they first meet but she’s a big city Boston girl and he’s living in small town Bordeaux, Ohio.

Not seeing much of a future for any relationship these two only have a couple of days together until a wedding cruise for two of the town’s favourite seniors sees them spending eight days together on ship.

Gabriela proposes a no strings attached vacation romance and though reluctant, Brooks does agree. Wanting whatever time with Gabriela he can get.

What follows is lots of laughs, big Puerto Rican family antics, steadfast friend groups and the most swoon-worthy tender moments.

I loved seeing Gabriela and Brooks figure out how they could make a relationship work AND help one another find a career path that would make them happy.

This book is part of a series and definitely would be enjoyed best if you read the other books first but it still works as a standalone if you just want to enjoy a heartfelt, kissing only love story.

Recommended for fans of Emily St. Clair or Sarah Adams and perfect for fans of boat romances like The unsinkable Greta James, Shipped or Love, lists & fancy ships.

Available now on KU and paperback. If you like small town love stories with a ton of heart you really need to check this series out!

Many thanks to the author for an early ARC copy in exchange for my honest review!!! Also that cover👌🏻

I’m currently on a cruise, so I was looking forward to this book the most. All the worse that I think this was the worst book of this series so far.

The main characters are Brooks and Gabriella. I liked Brooks in the other books and I liked him in this book. He is a great guy with a good heart. When it comes to Gabriella, I didn’t like her in the previous books and that didn’t change when I had so many chapters with her POV. I just didn’t like her.

There’s still one more book in this series coming out this year and I’m looking forward to it. I hope we get to see more from Chris, he grew on me throughout this book.

Another enjoyable read in the Getting Shipped! series! I've been waiting for Gabriella's story since meeting her in Townshipped, and this was a great one. As always, there were plenty of quirkiness and laugh out loud moments courtesy of the citizens of Boardeaux. If you enjoy small-town rom coms and haven't read this series yet, you are missing out! I'm looking forward to the next book!

This was a sweet book. It was full of chemistry and flirting from the start. I enjoy her style of writing. she has a few one-liners that are golden. There's not a whole lot of conflict in the book, so it's nice and light. The conflict comes in the difficult decisions they have to make. This would be a great summer/beach read.

oh my goodness! This book! Is this my new favorite of the series? It might be. Sorry Aiden! ¡Te amo!
So much to love about this book! all the familiar characters, senior hijinks, starcrossed love, found family, cultural experiences! So good. I loved how Gabby and Brooks grew in their relationship. I love how they took a chance even though they might get hurt. So many feelings.
Read this if you like cozy vibes, want to go on a cruise, or love people taking a chance on their HEA.

Didn’t love it

I was disappointed that I didn’t love this. I’ve read all the books in the series and own all but one. They have all been great. This one I just didn’t like until after the cruise had ended about +60% into the story. For me they were all over each other on the cruise without having more than a “we are drawn together” reason and had agreed to live it up on a Cruise Fling. Obviously feelings ran deeper than just that since eventually later they did have a HEA. But it just got too touchy for me too soon before they even were truly getting to know each other.
Another thing, as a spanish speaker it was kind of weird to see spanish written phonetically into English to convey the Puerto Rican accent. I can do Spanglish or Spanish in a book but this just threw me for a loop. I then expected the French to be written with a Caribbean accent but nope, no accent to show the region. But it’s probably just my background since I’ve lived on a French Caribbean island for many years so I had more expectations.
Rating: PG-13, no language, not squeaky clean, lots of kissing and holding, the female main character is Puerto Rican and loves loudly in full color so the affection in the book reflects that.

I couldn't decide if it was the writing or the narration that caused me to cringe while reading/listening to this book. It turns out it's both. An author should not write a main character who has a specific culture that the author has absolutely no connection to. That lack of connection came through loud and clear. It was compounded by the woman they chose to narrate. Her fake Puerto Rican accent made me want to rip my ears off. I finished this book because I'm not a quitter but I would not recommend it. If you do read it, do not choose the audiobook!

Firefighter Brooks and spunky Puerto Rican Gabriela have had a couple of meetings over the years due to mutual friends, but a cruise in the Caribbean leads to a chemistry laden vacation romance that was as hot as the sizzling tropical sun.

I loved Gabriela's saucy personality, as it was the perfect complement to Brooks and his heroism and stability. Of course, if both parties are in agreement, a fling is just what is needed to spice things up in life and it was so much fun to watch the sparks fly and see the antics that resulted from the spontaneity of this trip to celebrate the wedding of one of the seniors in the small town of Bordeaux, OH. From forced proximity to jail to meeting big, loud families to shipmates who can't catch a break to swoon galore, this fun dual POV story hit the spot.

The cast of characters wasn't as present as they are in some of the other books, but I loved the interactions of this tight-knit friend group, as well as the quirky seniors (and relatives). It was fun to see the camaraderie and encouragement they each showed for one another.

It was a blast to sail away into the sunset with this wonderfully sweet romance.

Content: mild+ romance (lots of touching/kissing--closed door)

Broookkkssyyyyyyyy

I knew I was going to love Brookes and Gabriela's story.
It was a little bit of a different take on "second chance",
Right person but wrong time.

Brookes and Gabby met through mutual friends but it just
wasn't the right time for them. A few years later, they both
end up in a Cruise with the townspeople of Bordeaux.

Brookes is the settling down type. But not much has changed in their lives over the last few years, so when Gabby proposes a
Cruise fling, he takes what he can get.

This was such a fun read. I seriously adore the people of this crazy small town 😂 and Gabriela's family just added to the fun crazy chaos.

So much character development in Brookes part. 🥹

I'll openly admit, Grant is still my fave BUT gotta love Brookes too🤍

Thank you to the author for my gifted copy.

This series just gets better with every book and I’m so sad that I’m getting so close to the end. I loved Brooks and Gabby. Boy do they have chemistry!! I loved the cruise ship setting. Brooks is just dreamy. A fireman who knows how to dance and treat a lady! Gabby is a firecracker. I loved her feisty personality. These two know how to flirt. But this story was not only sizzling kisses (though it definitely has those!), Brooks and Gabby find themselves in a hard situation. Even though they know they might both get hurt, they still take a chance with the time they’ve been given. I really sympathized for them and the decisions they each had to make. I was really unsure if they would ever have their HEA. But they do and it’s fabulous!

As usual, this book was full of lovable characters and heartfelt moments. Read this to see how Brooks gets his “if only” girl!!

*I received this book as an ARC in exchange for a review, but all thoughts and opinions are my own*

First of all, I want to start this review by thanking Savannah Scott & her team for this amazing opportunity! I believe this books marks my fourth time as an ARC reader for the Getting Shipped series, and it has truly been such a privilege.

It's been incredible to see Savannah Scott's writing grow and improve over the course of this series, even though it was already incredible in the first of her books I read! Brooks is also one of my favorite recurring characters, so it's so sweet to have him get his own love story.

Brooks and Gabriela are the sweetest together, and I loved this new close-proximity cruise ship setting, and the role taken by the seniors of Bordeaux in their story cracked me up constantly! The ending of this book is also so precious, and it's a story I've been thinking about days after I reached the book's conclusion.

In conclusion, I'd recommend this book to any lovers of the Getting Shipped series, and the series overall to any romance lovers! As a side note, if you've read any of my other reviews you know I love Shannon and Duke, so their cameos in this book made my heart smile <3

I have a love/hate relationship with vacation based stories. Thankfully, Savannah wrote this one and it’s simply amazing so it falls in the Love category for me. She took what could have been a tired, well worn plot and spiced it up with some snappy banter, hilarious situations and the well-loved Bordeaux characters we all look forward to reading about once again. Brooks and Gabby are 🔥 together but in such a swoony way rather than steamy. I was sad we didn’t spend the whole book in Bordeaux because it’s a great town but we still got some humor from the old folks and Brooks’ friends to keep us going. I think it needed to be a different setting to help Brooks figure out what he really wants in life rather than living to meet expectations. Definitely recommend this story….and the whole series be put on your TBR to read very soon. These stories and people are truly delightful.

I received this complimentary ARC from the author via BookFunnel. I am not required by anyone to write a positive review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.

I just love Brooks & Gabby🧡 he is such a sweetie. He met Gabby a few years prior and that was just it for him, she was the one. Watching them on the cruise as they fell in love and navigated the relationship after, they’re just perfect together🫶🏻Can’t go much more without spoiling, but find yourself someone like how Brooks loves Gabby-such a faithful, supportive love. The Bordeaux crew was such fun on the cruise🐂🛳️🧡 looking forward to Chris’s book next!

Cruiseshipped
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: RomCom
Author: Savannah Scott
GR: 4.12

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from Savannah Scott and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased. My apologies for such a late review. Having surgery and finishing my Master’s Degree put me way behind on my book reviews.

My Thoughts: First and foremost, I am a HUGE Scott fan, I will read anything she writes blindly. Scott is one of my favorite closed door RomCom writers. I have read every book in this series. This is book No. 6 in the Getting Shipped series and does set the scene for the last book in the series, so while this absolutely can be read as a standalone, you may need to read this one for the last book. As we follow Gabriel and Brooks’s story, we get immersed into the cruise life. I loved the tropes used in this book, love at first sight, forced proximity, and my favorite, friends to lovers.

The story is a dual narrated story with both Gabriela and Brooks’s perspectives, in their POV. Gabriela is so full of life, fierce, absolutely dedicated to her family, and has just positive perspective that just brings you in. Brooks is down to earth, humble, and compassionate. When these two decide to date for the duration of the cruise, sparks fly, chemistry runs wild, and the adventure is amazing. The characters were well developed, had witty banter, chemistry, and creative. The supporting characters from previous books also make an appearance, I always enjoy getting an update of their “life.” The author’s writing style was complex, humorous, connective, flowed well, and just brilliant. While we step out of Bordeaux a little for this one, it still brings us back to the town we have grown to love too much.

I just love Scott’s books. This one is no exception. When I think the newest book is the best, another book tops that one. This whole series is fantastic as we explore each friend from this fabulous friend group. I HIGHLY recommend this book and EVERY book in the series. All of Scott’s books are on KU and a good amount have audiobooks. Also, the last book in the series, Ripped and Shipped, is also available (my review will be forthcoming on that one too).

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Brooks & Gabriela’s points of view

Review:

I am so happy that we got more of Gabriela & a happily ever after for Brooks! After getting to know them and see their personalities shine in the past books, I’ve been waiting to hear more about them! This book was so good and I loved that we still got the feel of Bordeaux even in a place totally different from the small town majority of the characters live in. I loved that we got a ton of flirty banter from Brooks & Gabriela throughout the book as well as a deeper look into their families and how it made them who they are. I loved Em & Gabriela’s conversations and how Em was willing to call Gabriela out about the emotions in play with the relationship she wanted to have. I also loved that Duke was not only Brooks’s closest friend, but also his voice of reason when he needed it! Some of my favorite moments/scenes include: falling through a door thought to be shut, dancing, a trip to jail, a storm, meeting Gabriela’s family (x2), and getting to see the first two times Brooks & Gabriela met in previous books (during Townshipped & Censorshipped).

Summary:

Brooks has seen most of his friends find their happily ever after with the woman of their dreams, leaving him as one of the last few young bachelors in Bordeaux. He met a woman who turned his head and held onto his heart for the past few years, but with the distance between Brooks & Gabriela’s worlds things just didn’t seem to be feasible for them. With his lonely bachelor status hitting hard and him questioning what he really wants to do with his life, Brooks is almost glad to agree to join his friends on the wedding party cruise for two of the town’s favorite old people. When Brooks arrives at the ship and sees Gabriela boarding as well, he thinks it must be fate intervening and giving them the chance to have what they couldn’t…

Gabriela is always hard at work and hardly has time to just sit back and relax. When her best friend calls and asks her to come on a cruise so they can spend time together and it happens to fall during time with nothing major occurring for work, Gabriela is totally on board. But when she spots Brooks boarding the same time she is, all plans of just having girl time flow right out of her head in favor of this man before her. It fills her with glee that he also wants to spend as much time as possible with her. All they have is one week, but they should be fine breaking from each other once their time is up…right?

First thought: The ultimate wrong time right person romance, you will cherish the week these two get together. Plenty of lol moments, small town charm, vacation vibes, and found family moments. This is the sweetest story that makes you believe in the timing of the universe and how people are meant to find each other.

Brooks is a small town Ohio boy that is following his families legacy of being a firefighter. He has the best friend’s group in the world and loves the small town charm of Bordeaux. He just feels left behind as all his friends are pairing up and settling down. Only one woman has caught his attention the last few years and she’s made brief appearances twice as she’s best friends with one of his friends wife’s. The universe just isn’t in his favor with that one.

Gabriela aka Gabby is a Puerto Rican transplant with her big family in Chicago, where she works as an event planner. She’s sassy and full of fire and has yet to find a man who can handle her to settle down with. She’s crossed paths with Brooks a few times over the years but they would never work they live in different worlds and neither are willing to move.

A group of 40 folks from Bordeaux are headed to the Caribbean to celebrate a wedding. Brooks and Gabby run into each other and decide to let the attraction win, for this week they will have a fling and enjoy what life has to offer. And man do they have fun! They dance, they adventure, they may end up in jail in a foreign country but at the end of the week how will they go back to real life? Can they deny what they have between them?

You have got to read this one to find out! It’s the perfect summer read.
