Beth McAllister dreams of having a husband, but “Mr. Right” hasn't appeared. Good, old Scott Caldwell, the guy she's known since childhood, certainly doesn't count as a husband candidate. They're pals, that's all.

When Michael Alexander appears at the door of Beth McAllister's bed and breakfast inn, he's looking for more than a room to rent. Something that he wants is hidden in the old inn. Drop-dead handsome, he'll sweep Beth off her feet, if that's what it takes to reach his goal.

Charmed by Michael's attention, Beth tries to ignore that he lies, he's not a Christian, and she really knows nothing about him. And why can't Scott leave her alone? It's none of his business who she dates.

Scott Caldwell's been praying that Beth would be his wife. Now he can only watch as Beth falls for Michael and wonder, Lord, didn't You promise?

Oh goodness. Where to start? I don't think this book would pass the Bechdel test. The characters were hard to root for, one-dimensional, and problematic in my opinion.

Also, the main character's weight is discussed directly in a way that could be very triggering for anyone with a history of disordered eating. I would skip this title for a multitude of reasons.

I enjoyed this book, but it was not one of my favorites. I'd say the main characters are Beth and Scott. They are best friends, but both are secretly in love with each other. Because who would want to ruin the bestest friendship? Growing up, Beth was never the skinny or even popular one at school but her sister Lauren was. The death of Beth's aunt leaves her the inheritance of the hotel, but left her sister none.

If I could rate this more than a 5 I would! This is my favorite book of all time! I can relate so easily to Beth and her feelings of not measuring up. I could totally see myself doing all the same things she did. And let's face it, who doesn't want a guy like Scott?
