George Norman Douglas was a British writer, now best known for his 1917 novel South Wind. His travel books, such as Old Calabria (1915), were also appreciated for the quality of their writing.
A brilliant selection, enhanced by Douglas' scholarly, literary and moral reflections after each poem ("A charming description of the old port of Nantucket will be found in 'Moby Dick' by Herman Melville.") Extra points for daring to speak the truth that Edward Lear's famous limericks are dull and structurally unsound.
There once was a man from Nantucket whose prick was so long he could suck it. One day he said with a grin; while wiping his chin: "If my dick was a cunt I would fuck it"
If you can read that limerick and produce a hearty chuckle, then you will enjoy this book.
If instead the poem inspires gasps of indignation and charges of vulgarity and perversion, then you're probably no fun at parties.
