I have had the privileged to talk with and get to know Doris Parmett. She has wrote a lot of romance novels back in the 80's and 90's and is thinking about dipping her feet back into the waters of writing. She asked me to read a couple of her novels and Risk is the first one I have read.

Risk to me is a romantic drama, about a young woman who has everything. She has lived a privileged life in Beverly Hills. She has a great marriage to a successful businessman and she thinks that life is grand. Then her father gets in an accident and his face needs rebuilt, but the doctor finds out that he has had plastic surgery before.

Dr. Lawson let's his detective friend draw pictures for some facial reconstruction software he has been working with and doesn't know that at that point he is changing the lives of several people.

The revelation of the secret her father has hid sends Claire's life into a downward spiral, and she learns that her marriage was not based on anything solid, but what her father could do for her husband. Now that this horrible secret is out he has no use for her or her bad genes. As she falls apart the only person there to help her is the young Dr. Wendell Lawson.

Wendall is completely the opposite of Claire's husband (soon to be ex), he is a very compassionate doctor. He could do anything but chooses to spend some of his free time developing a clinic in the South Bronx. He fell for a picture of Claire in her fathers pocket when he was brought into work on Edward Jameson. It wasn't hard for him to reach out and help her get through this awful time that was just getting started for her.

Claire is a strong woman, though she has hid behind her privileged life and a husband who wanted a hostess not a wife. When her world crashes before even though she does have her breakdown moments, she finds the courage and strength to pick herself up and move on.

The only thing keeping her from a love that could be everything she wanted and more was her ability to trust a man again. To trust a man of wealth again. In the end she must decide it it's work the risk.

I really wasn't sure what I was going to think of this novel when I first started reading it. I got pulled in and then I pulled back, but then I got pulled right back in and then I had to find out how it ended. Honestly it's not the type of romance novel I am use to as I don't really go for dramatic romances, but I really enjoyed Risk. I think if you like Danielle Steele type romances that you will enjoy this one. Even though it was published over a decade ago, it can still stand up to romances today.
