The story is about a girl Alice, And her adventure in Wonderland. In Wonderland she meets a variety of different characters and went to a bunch of different locations. Then she ends up at a trail because someone stole some tarts. Then the Jury calls her as a witness.

The setting has a major role in the whole story. What I noticed was that each place had a different mood. At the beginning she was with her sister and the vibe was sleepy and bored. Then when falling down the hole it felt curious as she was falling she looked at jars and looked through books. At the Caucus race it felt sad because she was growing and shrinking so much she was just really confused and sad. At the duchess house it felt chaotic like there was two men with a frog and fish head being footman and the cook was throwing pots and pans at the baby the duchess was running out to go play croquet with queen then the baby turned into a pig. Then at the mad hatter and the March Hares tea party it very upbeat and silly. At the Queens garden it felt nerve racking and scared. After that Alice went to go the mock turtle's rock by the queens castle the vibe there was a happy fun vibe. Then at the trial it was very suspenseful.

The point of view followed Alice as she explored Wonderland and everyone in it. As every person she met I think the story got weirder and weirder like the baby turning into a pig and then Alice square dancing with a gryphon. As time went on Alice kind of embraced it but at the beginning she was like "this is weird I just want to go home" But towards the end she was like "I don't want to go home this is fun" so the point of view was important for Alice's view on the whole thing.

Overall the book was really great and had a good plot so you'll never could guess what was going to happen next. But also some of the chapters seem to drag on forever so I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a book. There is also movies and a play about it so its fun to compare the three.

I have to give credit for the effort that went into adapting Alice for a younger audience. However, I don't think there are any redeeming qualities with this version. The text is riddled with typos: sentences end with semicolons, subjects and verbs disagree, a few sentences feature two verbs, the list goes on. These aren't ESL errors; rather, it seems that multiple people had their hands on the final draft and didn't bother to make absolutely certain their edits were grammatically correct. Find and replace, anyone?

Additionally, efforts were made to keep certain aspects as faithful to the original as possible. What results is a confused mishmash of language, some contemporary to Carroll, some to the present day, and some tries to "talk down" to the kids reading/being read to. The length was perhaps more digestible, but apart from that, I wish I'd just read my daughter the original.

An abridged, large print book of the classic story. Perfect for a younger reader who may need assistance while reading. It would make a great read-aloud book as an introduction to this timeless tale.

This was a fun fantasy tale to read about that I never had read before. I found this to be a fun story with all the different stories and experiences that Alice went through during his dream. Overall this was a fun story to read!

I’ve read the “regular” version myself, and this one was for my twins. Read it at bedtime, and they seemed to enjoy it, and asked me to read it a second time, so we’ve started again.

Summary of the book: Just a trip down the rabbit hole is all it takes for Alice to embark on an unforgettable adventure in this classic tale of fantasy and imagination.

Your evaluation of the book: I really enjoyed reading this book. When I read it, I immediately related it to the genre of fantasy, as Alice's dream takes her on a crazy and imaginative adventure through Wonderland.

One teaching idea for the book: I would use this novel to teach about the genre of fantasy. I would use this novel to specifically teach how to decipher between fantasy tales and real life events.

Reading Challenge #23: A book more than 100 years old

I've never read Alice in Wonderland (prior to this) so I've always been curious about it. I've seen the games based on it, and I've even come across books that retell the story (i.e,Alice in Zombieland) so I wanted to read the original and get an idea of what inspired these retellings.

First, I loved the idea behind this story. I thought it was creative and original. I thought I was going to love this book, and yet I was disappointed. I just couldn't get into it. I didn't like the characters and the book lost me a couple of times. I feel that this could of been executed better.

My daughter Adria had a copy of this book. When I noticed she had it the other day, I realized I never read it myself. Not to different from the Disney version. The book version is just as trippy.
