About the author

Charlotte Maria Tucker, the English author, who wrote under the pseudonym A.L.O.E (a Lady of England), was the daughter of Henry St George Tucker (1771-1851), a distinguished official of the British East India Company. From 1852 till her death she wrote many stories for children, most of them allegories with an obvious moral, and devoted the proceeds to charity. In 1875 she left England for India to engage in missionary work, and died at Amritsar on the 2nd of December 1893.

Book 1 of 4 in the lamplighter Herod of the faith series. I love reading about David in the Bible and this version by ALOE is very captivating.

Really, you can't go wrong with a Lamplighter book! Mr. Eardley comes to be the new curate for Axe, but a broken leg keeps him from performing his duties. God uses this circumstance for good through the lectures he gives while confined to his bed. These lectures on the shepherd of Bethlehem (David) touch the lives of many in the little town. They also teach the reader many things about our walk with Christ. An excellent and thought-provoking book!

Absolutely loved this book. ALOE has such a gift of telling powerful and sweet stories. I loved how she went from the story of David back to her characters and back again. Applying the lessons learned and showing how one story in the Bible can impact so many people in many different ways.
