This is one book that makes the cut for taking back and forth to the USA on Home Ministry Assignment. I've added an index of favorite phrases I can never find, a list of hymns that have the Japanese words penciled in, a list of hymns containing the phrase "mercy seat," etc. Although the section on heaven is brief, pink underlines all throughout the hymnal point to references to heaven. And my favorite addition is the paper clip so I can quickly access the "Tunes" index in order to determine what tune I know that matches this new song I want to sing. The margins of many pages are marked with Scripture references or cross references to other hymns. A *great* devotional tool... even for the musically challenged. I highly recommend a personal hymnal that you can customize!

The Trinity Hymnal has been a companion on my Christian walk since its publication, and it remains a treasured collection of hymns for me to this day. The Trinity boasts a rich tapestry of over 700 hymns, from well-worn classics that resonate across generations to more obscure gems waiting to be discovered. While each church cultivates its own favorites, the sheer volume ensures a lifetime of exploration within its covers.

The Trinity Hymnal leans towards traditional hymns. The few contemporary worship songs included have been adapted to a standard hymn format with more traditional rhythms and structures. However, where the hymnal truly shines is in its presentation of these classic hymns.

For both singers and musicians, the Trinity Hymnal is a joy to use. The clear and readable notation and lyrics make it easy for everyone to participate. As a pianist myself, I appreciate the well-crafted hymn arrangements with chord progressions and harmonies that are rich and intuitive.

The hymnal's user-friendliness extends to its comprehensive indices. Hymns can be readily located by title, first line, meter, author/composer, or tune, ensuring ease of finding “just the right hymn.”

The inclusion of guitar chords for some hymns is a welcome touch, but their inconsistency is a minor shortcoming. Having guitar chords readily available for all hymns would further enhance the hymnal's accessibility for contemporary worship settings.

Overall, the Trinity Hymnal is more than just a collection of songs; it's a testament to the enduring legacy of hymns and classic devotional poetry set to music. It's a hymnal that will continue to enrich worship services and inspire praise for generations to come.

This is a wonderful hymnal. While there are several great hymns that were left out (e.g. Break Forth, O Beauteous Heav'nly Light; Alone Thou Goest Forth, O Lord) and there were a few theologically questionable hymns that were included (e.g. Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling), overall this is a great collection of hymns with many forgotten gems, such as Whate'er My God Ordains is Right (#108), O That I Had a Thousand Voices (#22), Jesus, Priceless Treasure (#656), Rise, My Soul, to Watch and Pray (#567), and From Depths of Woe I Raise to Thee (#554). I would highly reccommend this hymnal to anyone looking for rich, deep, biblical, and meaningful hymns for all occasions.
