Accessibly written and easy to use, this comprehensive book covers everything professionals and students need to know about DSM-IV. Following the same format as DSM-IV, the text presents every diagnosis. For each it includes case examples, a detailed analysis of each case, and a clear explanation of how to arrive at the diagnosis and how to rule out other possibilities. Essential for all mental health practitioners studying for their licensing exams, this hands-on resource will be valued by psychiatrists, residents, psychologists, marriage and family counselors, social workers, and anyone who needs to know about DSM-IV.
Though I am not really crazy about the DSM to begin with (for a litany of some idealistic and some more practical objections), this book makes the material pretty easy to understand. It's really user friendly and is good for new clinicians and/or people who are just getting familiar with diagnoses. It's a little pricey, but worth the $$ if you're in the field.
I can't imagine anyone would actually be interested in a book of this nature. I'm pretty sure that 99% of the public has no need to learn ~ clinician's diagnosis. Regardless, I found the book intriguing; lots of information, stats, history, tech. language. Basically it's a dry book, like reading assignments in a college psychology/sociology/psychiatry class/lessons. The information is clear & concise, sometimes a bit wordy. It is a "Clinician's Guide" so I'm thinking that the book wasn't necessarily for the lay mind. That's NOT saying that I'm "above" the lay mind, EVER!!!
This book is really helpful in learning DSM diagnosis as it has a case study immediately following the description of the disorder. It also reviews and explains possible differential diagnosis as well as comorbid disorders.
This book is a wonderful find for psycholgists who work with DSM! I've learned SO much about diagnosing, the common mistakes people make, examples that helps us practice and it's making me feel more confident in my diagnosing abilities.
este libro me valió mucho para preparar la asignatura de psicopatología en el grado de psicología, al poner casos clínicos vas entendiendo mejor las patologías.
