Though I am not really crazy about the DSM to begin with (for a litany of some idealistic and some more practical objections), this book makes the material pretty easy to understand. It's really user friendly and is good for new clinicians and/or people who are just getting familiar with diagnoses. It's a little pricey, but worth the $$ if you're in the field.

I can't imagine anyone would actually be interested in a book of this nature. I'm pretty sure that 99% of the public has no need to learn ~ clinician's diagnosis. Regardless, I found the book intriguing; lots of information, stats, history, tech. language. Basically it's a dry book, like reading assignments in a college psychology/sociology/psychiatry class/lessons. The information is clear & concise, sometimes a bit wordy. It is a "Clinician's Guide" so I'm thinking that the book wasn't necessarily for the lay mind. That's NOT saying that I'm "above" the lay mind, EVER!!!

This book is really helpful in learning DSM diagnosis as it has a case study immediately following the description of the disorder. It also reviews and explains possible differential diagnosis as well as comorbid disorders.

This book is a wonderful find for psycholgists who work with DSM! I've learned SO much about diagnosing, the common mistakes people make, examples that helps us practice and it's making me feel more confident in my diagnosing abilities.

This simplification of the DSM-IV certainly made the material contained in the DSM more palatable and easy to understand.

A really good book to read when studying the DSM-IV TR. It is far more readable than the actual manual. I enjoyed reading it.
