This book has been sitting on my shelf since, literally, the second grade. I never really had any desire to actually read it and wasn't planning to anytime soon. However, I randomly decided to pick up this book on a whim this morning and I read the entire thing in about two hours. I am SO disappointed that I couldn't rate this anything higher than 3 stars. I came out of it pretty disappointed, considering that this is a classic and I was expecting to be wowed by this.
There were many things that I appreciated about this book. The sarcasm, the sense of humor, the cleverness and creativity of the whole concept! The characters were super unique and the story was a lot darker than I expected it to be, which was nice. Plus, there were sooooo many quotable lines! However, despite all the pros, I walked away from it with more questions than answers. (Like the Duchess's cook throwing the plates and the baby turning into a pig??) When the ending hit, I literally said "that's it??" out loud because I felt like I just went on a bad acid trip. It just felt like a bunch of random events strung together.
As much as I respect this story for all of its contributions to literature, I just didn't get what I wanted out of this despite how much I wanted to love it :(

I have no idea why it took me so long to want to read this. I guess it's a good thing I'm taking the English class that I'm taking now because I probably would have waited even longer. Now that I have read it though, I'm totally and completely in love with it. Not that I wasn't before with all of the movies and other things that have been done with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, but nothing is as good as the original.

I read this book aloud to my 3.5 year old daughter and she loved it. She keeps asking me to read it again, this time with her 5.5 brother. I think he'd enjoy it too.
It is adapted and illustrated, but still an excellent intro to Alice's Adventures. The book moves fast and covers most the highlights of the original story.
