The Catholic Warrior takes readers through spiritual boot camp and teaches them to draw on the power of Christ through a warrior's greatest weapons - faith, love and prayer. It concludes with the great commission for those who are willing to accept the challenge and join the ranks. Stories of men and women performing deeds of valor on the spiritual battlefield didn't end in Bible times or with the lives of saints from centuries past. Particularly in an era when priests are few and challenges are many, Christ needs laypeople who are willing to put on the full armor of God, push back enemy lines, and advance the kingdom of heaven here on earth. Are you ready for an adventure of a lifetime? Rise to your feet, all you mighty warriors. The Spirit of God says, "Come!" You are hereby commissioned!
I didn't feel anything reading this book, which is sad. I really expected so much more based on the subject matter. Don't waste your time reading this one. 😕
An easy read: important; must read for Catholics. The Catholic Warrior helps you view spiritual battles; it gives a much different view on the fall of Adam and Eve and builds on this new world view to understand spiritual warfare while giving sound and practical advice on how to properly combat sin in one's daily life. It perfectly highlights the struggles Christians face especially in the practice of love.
A motivational book primarily, I was concerned at first it was going to be very overly dramatic based on the author's enthusiasm in the first couple of chapters. However, he soon settled down to practical examples, specific examples and helpful means to counter the forces in our current culture which would destroy all that we as Catholics, as Christians, hold dear. I debated between a 3 and 4. I would give it a 3.5 if the option were open to me. As it is I choose the lower rating strictly based on my personal preference for a more straightforward style. I have no doubt of the truth nor the seriousness of anything which the author writes about.
Recent events may have stirred the thought that you're living on a battlefield that eludes your perception. You sense that something big is taking place - without your full knowledge or participation. Abel introduces key concepts you may cherish in your effort to navigate these difficult times. He may even convince you to suit up with the armor of the Spiritual Warrior and enter the struggle.
Abel uses real life examples from both his own life and those of others to show how, as Christians, we are called to be spiritual warriors and that, through the grace of God, we are given all the tools necessary to conquer sin in the service of Christ.
Easy read, and great insight on how to become a Catholuc Warrior. Turn your anger into love. Love is the way to battle through any struggle. God is love, and demo s fear love.
This was a great book to read and one that I will be recommending others to read as well. It is a great book for anyone who wants to seek more than just a Sunday experience it's a great place to start. It's a great place to start learning about what God had originally intended us to have in Eden, and how we can now still acquire the love and power through the New Covenant set up by Jesus.
I gave it four stars instead of five cause I believe it could have gone a little bit more in dept. Also He didn't really touch on physical healing with is going on still and is something that we as Catholics should be doing more of. It's a great book to start with and I recommend afterwards reading When Heaven Invades Earth, by Bill Johnson, and Healing, By Francis MacNutt, Ph.D. Those go deeper into what you can access through Gods love and power.
I am happy that I read it and will be handing this book out to those who have choose to live in freedom and not fear in Christ and the Catholic Church.
My favorite chapter was A Warrior's Love and the story of the author's long, patient reaching out to a homeless man who rejected him, but then, over a long period of time, eventually changed his entire life due to Robert's persistent presence, grace, and love towards him that mirrored Christ's relentless, pursuing love that never gives up on us.
