Most of the advice were rather useless. A lot of it like "remember your patient is a human being" and "show up on time on your first day" seems like common sense. I learned nothing from it unless the advice on remembering that you'll survive your first mistake. That one was useful.
This book is not for new nurses, but rather for new nursing students

This book is pretty outdated, but most tips and tricks are still relevant. This is a good reminder of things to think about as a new grad, including things like documentation, patient rapport and teamwork. It’s hard not to have tunnel vision as a new grad … you’re just trying to survive! This books gives good insight on aspects of the job to keep in mind as you go.

If you're fresh out of nursing school, many tips will sound familiar, such as knowing your six rights, documenting as you go, assessing learning needs for your patient, etc. I felt the more helpful tips concerned the attitudes and approaches nurses should have toward their work. Some of these are remembering that your patients are people too, maintaining professionalism, and learning from your mistakes. In sum, it's a short, helpful book with good, practical advice.

I did not learn a single thing from reading this book and I am a new grad. What a disappointment. It was all broad, generic recommendations that I've heard 100 times throughout nursing school.
