Think only geeks play roleplaying games? Think again! The Gamers Taste Test will prove that these guys can have relationships outside the game, and be sexy as all get out. In Better Late than Never, by Misa Izanaki, Leon has a thing for his best friend Ian, but has been afraid to mention it. “Better Late Than Never” by Misa Izanaki is a tale of best friends who fall in love. Leon thinks his friend Ian is the “sexiest thing on two legs” but is not willing to reveal his true feelings out of fear of destroying their friendship. When Ian convinces Leon to attend a Fantasy tournament and convention the tables are turned on him. Leon and Ian became friends because of the game but remain close due to being so similar. I really enjoyed this story, and the flirting and playfulness of the best friends is fun and engaging. The “hot gamer sex” isn’t bad either! It is obvious that Ian truly cares for his friend as they discuss Leon’s past relationship, and how Leon deserves to be treated better. This is a charming story that is not to be missed!

“Deke Takes a Turn” by H.B. Kurtzwilde is an intriguing story that grabs you from the beginning. Gerry is a working gamer, and thanks to the help of his boyfriend Deke, an artist, they are both able to work out of their home. Because they can both get so caught up in their work, they have devised a game based around their expectations, especially sex, being met. When Gerry drops the ball after being so focused on some game testing that he turns down over 300 offers of sex, he knows he has really screwed up. But he is intent on making it up to Deke, in any way he can. I was fascinated by the relationship between these two men, and how they have customized their lives to fit with their, at times, demanding jobs. Deke believes in Gerry and helping him to follow his dreams instead of being stuck in a boring job he hates. They complement each other and their time together is both erotic and pleasurable to watch. These are interesting characters that I hope we get to see again soon as I am sure they have more stories to tell!

“Old School D&D” by C.B. Potts finds Andy and Derek at yet another convention. It is important that they be there to advance Andy in his career as a game artist. When Derek vents about Andy’s job and being constantly dragged from one convention to another, he is unfortunately overheard by Andy, setting off an emotional argument and possible end to their relationship. This is an intriguing story because it focuses on the partner that is not a gamer, and how he is affected by being in love with one. Derek truly loves Andy, but after five years of supporting him while Andy pursues his dreams, Derek is tired of never having his lover to himself. When Andy has finally made it in his job, the last thing he wants is to lose Derek. Their confrontation is emotional and pulls on the heartstrings. This story also has my favorite quote of all, “… I’d have to roll a critical failure against intelligence to walk away…” A classic example of gamer speak to round out a moving and wonderful story!

Gamers are a special breed of people, we can get so caught up in a game that we lose track of time and everything else in life. Our primary focus is that game; grabbing up all the hidden treasures, defeating that enemy, completing that mission. This wonderful collection of stories focuses on gamers, both their strengths and weaknesses, and is an enjoyable read. Even for people who have never played a game in their life ~ I promise!
