The Detroit Pirates #2

Buried Treasure

Rate this book
Sydney Barton had a good life with a nice apartment and a great job. Then she went to work one day and found out her boss had embezzled millions of dollars from his clients, leaving her with no career and no future. Sydney never saw it coming and realizes there's no way she will ever trust anyone again, professionally or personally.

Then Andy Mitchell showed up at her door.

Andy enjoyed his job as the trainer for the Detroit Pirates for the most part, except for mornings like the one when the team's rookie sensation collapsed in the locker room with a rebellious appendix. With Ryan McCloud on the injured reserved list, it's up to Andy to get started on a recovery plan.

If Andy had just remembered the keys to Ryan's apartment, he would've never knocked on the door of the rookie's neighbor, Sydney. But now that he has, can Sydney and Andy put their trust in one another when it's so hard for each of them to remember what that means?

Sydney hears a beeping sound she knows it’s, a text that has come in. It's from, Ryan McCloud asking, Sydney, to bring donuts. What the actual text means is, Help my one and done won’t leave. Come rescue me! Sydney finds it fun being, Ryan’s stand-in-big sister, to this only child. Almost, too much considering what, she is about, to do. Which is going, to act like a fake girlfriend, letting herself into his apartment, to catch him with another woman. Once she is dressed for, success and gathered her things for work, she heads over with a bagel.

Once the girl is, successfully gone, she gives Ryan his bagel. He starts, to eat and feels some pain. He plays it off, saying he worked out, too much. She heads, to work and her world is turned, upside down. S.E.C. has come in and is swarming her boss's office. She gets, to her office and they are, doing the same. When she hears, Lucy now acting as, her lawyer. Telling her to say nothing. As they are waiting her boss, is being taken away, in handcuffs. This is a man, she had trusted. Well, there went that. Everything in her office is, off-limits until checked.

But, her face is plastered everywhere thanks, to the news when, she did nothing. Now, people are telling her off for being a crook. She feels defeated and lost. When she arrives home, a man stands there saying he’s a trainer for, Ryan’s team. He had told, Andy you would have a key, to let him in, to get things for the hospital. Now, she looks worried asking, what happened. Andy chuckles, to hear, Ryan tell it he says, it was the bagel you brought him, instead of the donuts. Speaking as his trainer, it was a good choice.

She lets him in and even proceeds, to pack his things for him. Knowing where everything is. Throws him off a little thinking she, and Ryan are a thing. He can see the sadness in her eyes and asks if she is okay. She says, yeah. Just a bad day, a really bad day. The reasons for the trainer to come over become easy because the team says, but also, Ryan’s mom said, too. She is playing matchmaker with him, and Sydney.

I enjoyed this story because we were able, to see the case that, Lucy had been working on, from the other side. We got, to see where Ryan gets his, sense of humor, it’s his mom. She radiates her love, for him and his friends. I’m not sure how I feel still, about Andy’s character. He just seemed on the wimpy side, to me. He should have waited until he, was emotionally fit. If he didn't want, to be in a relationship with her, he should have stayed away. He knew she was having a hard time in her business life, and needed, to get through that before adding his BS, to it. He should have been pissed at, Ryan for what he was thinking, not her. Ryan should have run after, him and set him straight right away.

Middle of the road-ish for me

First and foremost, these books are hockey in name only. They mention games and road trips and going to the arena but actual hockey? Nary a word about it.
Andy and Sydney meet cute ... he tells her good friend got appendicitis, she cries over a dead goldfish. They get together a couple of times. I did feel like their trust issues were completely believable although the closure on those issues seemed pretty abrupt.
I wish there was a greater exploration of Lucy and Ryan’ s relationship. You knew it was coming and thought it was the next book, when bam, they’ve been together for months, surprise.
I don’t know ... I’ll read the next one but I doubt I’ll remember them next year.

The finance professional and the Trainer

Good characters, the sexy trainer would have no problem with the ladies but when them meet the hockey players he trains the shallow girls want to trade up. Until he meets Sydney. Good story and hilarious friend relationship with the rookie hockey player next door.

Such good books!

These stories are so sweet and fun! They're perfect if you like a little spice in the books you read, but don't need graphic sex scenes. The heroes are hot, alpha males and the heroines are beautiful, strong women who know it takes real strength and courage to open yourself up to true intimacy. On to the next book!

Okay, it’ll be quite selfish(?) of me, but Sydney’s and Andy’s mutual trust issues were starting to wear on me. I’m glad they found a resolution leading to their HEA before said issues truly irked me.

Okay … on to more about the Detroit Pirates. 😃

Great book. Liked how mild it was, not always crazy sex and all. Refreshing.

This book was not good. The characters were bland and one dimensional, the sex scenes were lackluster and I can't even believe I stuck it out to the end.
