Ryan McCloud just wanted to stay in a cottage on Harbor Lake to give himself a mental reset after a heartbreaking loss in the playoffs. He didn't expect to find a woman he actually knew staying in the quaint cabin next door. He wanted to forget everything about his life in Detroit, but now that Lucy was so close, he couldn't keep his mind off of her.

Sure, Lucy Evans knew a Detroit Pirate, but that was only because he lived next door to her best friend in an amazing building in the city. Seeing Ryan without a shirt on in a cottage up north? Well, that made her think things she hadn't before about the immature hockey player and his muscular body, especially after he has his way with her on his kitchen counter.

But things change when they have to face the real world in Detroit, and it won't be easy to overlook their differences anymore. Will Lucy be able to get over the fact that this Detroit Pirate may not be mature enough for a relationship with her? And can Ryan prove that he's worthy of the love of a smart and sophisticated lawyer?

Ryan is a 21 year old hockey star. Lucy is a 30 year old respectable lawyer. While he enjoys not being treated like a celebrity by her, she finds him physically attractive. They have already had a passionate fling in a cabin near the lake up north. But can the relationship continue in Detroit city, where the contrast in their lifestyles is more obvious.

A easy-going mildly-erotic adult romance.

Sydney and Ryan are next-door neighbors. Ryan plays professional hockey for the Detroit Pirates. Andy, the team trainer, checks on Ryan’s recovery, after surgery. They didn't expect, Andy, to have an instant crush on, Sydney. Ryan and Andy are good friends. As are he and Sydney. So, when the three would hang out she would ask her new friend, and lawyer, Lucy. Because Sydney’s boss is embezzling, and Sydney being a forensic accountant caught him doing it. She helps take him down. So, she asks her along, to some games and then get-togethers with the guys.

Lucy always saw Ryan as a young, party-boy, and hockey jock. With a different woman, every night. Who needed her best friend, to bail him out of a one-and-done, on occasion. Eye-opening stuff, into the life of a pro athlete. She always thought he was good-looking, and nice and generous, too. He always gave not only, Sydney tickets, to see his games, but one for Lucy, too. And he always made sure, to add food vouchers, also. Almost as if, he knew she loved her nachos, at the games. Sydney’s case is winding down, and, Lucy needed, to get away, get ready for the final push, and concentrate. So, the family lake house, it is.

Little did she know, the person renting next door for a week would be none other than, yup, Ryan. Boy, is she surprised! When she knocks on the neighbor's door, naked from the waist up, Ryan is standing there in only his boxers. She is speechless, utterly speechless. She has seen him dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, jeans and a t-shirt, and a suit, but never without a shirt. She can't even lie, because she might even have, to wipe a little drool, she likes it. Maybe too much, and she doesn't know what, to do with that. She is almost ten years older than him. He is the eternal party boy, and she is the career woman attorney, blazing her, own path.

However, she is feeling drawn, to him. There seems, to be a deep sadness and almost a lost look, in his eyes. She can't quite place. She has never, seen him like this. He’s gloomy, unsettled, and even in need of a long sleep. She had heard, they lost the last game of, the playoffs. It was devastating, to everyone. Somehow, he is taking it personally. After a day or two of sharing coffee, lunches, and dinners it turns, into a touch that turns into, a kiss and... One night that’s it? No, she gets half a morning before he leaves to go back home to Canada, for a fundraiser. Then, he goes radio silent. Find out if they can come together.

The thing I have a problem with is that, Lucy thought because she is older, and therefore she is wiser than, Ryan. Deciding on her work dinner, for him. Instead of being open, and honest with him, about how they go down. Allowing him, to decide for himself if, he would feel slided at her pretentious pissing contest work party. But, instead, she did his bidding for him. Because that night set a hole new course for their relationship. Wasting valuable time together.

For the most part the book was good. It was slow II. The beginning. At the conflict I feel it was resolved too quickly. I don’t need a big battle or drawn out conflict but what Lucy said was a direct hit on him and I his personality, is maturity. One game one meeting and it is done.I feel more needed expressed, she needed to really feel what was wrong with what she did and said, she needed more reflection. He needed to express that he was growing when they were together and she didn’t see it because of her kind of petty concerns. Sydney never had her say with Lucy, it was suppose to be continued. I was hoping he somehow would prove her wrong about him in her work environment. There was an opportunity to show him doing charity work that was lost and would have shown his maturity. Disappointing conflict and ending it seemed to rushed.

A book that effects our status quo about professional athletes. An athlete who cares so much about his team, their performance and the outcome of the season tries to get his head on straight and meets a lawyer almost 10 years older then himself. He's a passionate, feeling type man who has his feelings hurt easily.

This lawyer happens to have a smoking hot body and also be friends with this star athlete. Unfortunately, the lawyer also is affected by stereotypes and the perceptions of others when making decisions about her personal life.

Sex drives both of these characters, but they have no communication between them about the relationship, so we get to know the inner thoughts and feelings and worries they have.

This is an enjoyable reading experience.
