Able Team #38

Cold Steel

Rate this book
A band of Chinese terrorists sabotages California's earthquake monitoring stations and steals six XT-22 nuclear warheads. Their objective: trigger the greatest earthquake calamity in U.S. history.

But instead of a band of fringe lunatics, Carl Lyons and his Able Team commandos are soon staring into the jaws of America's most powerful adversary: the KGB.

It's not the first time Able Team has danced with the Russians. Now they've got a little shake, rattle and roll number of their own to play - before the Golden State is rocked by "the big one."

A fun installment of this series. This time they are fighting the KGB again, but by proxy since the Russians are using a group of Chinese terroists as their forces along with a couple of brillant scientists. The goal is to set nuclear warheads down deep shafts to trigger earthquakes in California, to take out military targets, and to stop a launch of a new satellite. It's a weird complicated plot but this is number 38, they have to get weird to keep the series going. Nice to see a returning Stony Man member in Lao Ti. Also was cool seeing the pilot Grimaldi and the weaponsmith Kissinger in prominent combat roles. Even Bear, the wheelchair bound computer expert gets to take on someone which was fun.

Highly recommended if you are a fan of the series, I think it would be an ok standalone as well. However, I enjoy it as much as I did because of having the background of the whole series along with knowing the characters and the other missions they mention in the book.

A spin off series from his Executioner books. This series follows several secondary characters that band together. Recommended
