It's the adventure of a lifetime. An Overseer has crossed generations to save the world. Time itself is moving too quickly, with each day becoming shorter than the last. Society is unravelling. People are violently out of control, no one is safe. A beautiful women fears she is losing her mind. She's having an unexplainable psychic connection with a man she has never met - no ordinary man. To prove her sanity, she must find him, chasing across the globe on a whirlwind adventure to some of the most mysterious and ancient sites on earth - monuments that hold a secret power. All the while, the forces of opposition lie in wait. They know everything that is about to happen. One wrong move and we are all condemned to darkness. So begins the quest to rectify the Schumann Frequency.
This was actually a pretty good book. Although I wasn't really into the little bit of romance towards the end of the book, the end plot twists and reveals were satisfying. It was fast paced and made me keep turning pages. At times you could tell this was a first novel but in the end everything wrapped up nicely. I would read another one of his books in the future and recommend this book to people who would like a fast paced sci fi kind of novel. The little Aussie tidbits thrown in were also nice.
As a person who wholeheartedly finds all fictional depictions of time travel icky, I still mostly enjoyed this.
The "science" is sketchily quoted-from-quotes, the dialogue is repetitive and two-dimensional (haha, see what I did there), and the characters are gloriously stereotypical.
On the other hand, the premise is interesting, the action moves along well, and as a debut novel it is pretty well done, and I'm keen to try the sequel just to see if it gets better.
Would have been a nicer book if all the paradoxes and scientific portions have been more accurate. Not too bad an action thriller but sure not the best sci-fi one. (Jumper would be a more recommended time-traveling book, or even fellow Australian Reilly). Somehow not satisfying as expected, and it has taught me not to believe the blurbs at the front of any book.
I wasn't too sure what to expect from this first time author but the premise seemed interesting and I found it a very interesting read indeed. The pace kept me turning the pages as a little more of the story of why was exposed.
I guess to read a book such as this you need to have a good understanding of science, and particularly physics. This is an area I have never excelled in, so I found it a very difficult read.
As a time travelling lover, I knew I'd love this one! A couple of things were left unresolved at the end, but I assume that's only because it's left as a cliffhanger for the next book! Highly recommended.
Unfortunately the author fell into some obvious clichés, situational as well as conversational, far too regularly. The love story was childish, the relationship between hero and heroine swung between petulant silence, snarky sledges and soaring passion. The use of an Australian protagonist whilst trying to appeal to a wider North American readership was an interesting choice and a little hedge-betting when the Aussie used U.S cultural references that I wouldn’t think to be a natural reflex. I found these flaws to be distracting from the story that wasn’t too bad a premise otherwise. But the triteness couldn’t lift my rating above one star.
