In "Coach Yourself to Success" Talane Miedander shares the same core principles that she applies when personally coaching executives and international business leaders from companies such as AT&T, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Giorgio Armani. Talane shows readers how to tap into their natural motivation and leverage their strengths to achieve the results they desire.
I've read a TON of self-help/self-improvement books. This is the ONLY book that I've been able to learn from and actually implement. The very specific, very basic suggestions really make this something than anyone can benefit from. Each of the 101 "tips" can have a profound effect on your life, especially since they're based on simple fundamentals: think about it, "the first place to start when you begin ... is to dramatically reduce the number of things that are distracting you and draining your energy and replace them with some positive, nurturing energy boosters". And then over the next 10 chapters (each only 4-6 pages long) she shows you very simple ways to do exactly that.
This is a book that I consider one of my top 10 recommendations of all time.
a quite helpful book that makes you think about many things that seem to be trivial to many of us. What annoyed me after a few chapters, were the examples the author gave to illustrate her points. They sometimes seemed to be.."too much", a bit exaggerated.. Still, I would recommend it to anyone who feels like there is room for improvement in any area of life.
I have to say if you haven't read this book yet, it is essential that you do! I read hundreds of books every year, likely thousands lol and they are mostly non-fiction, self-help. When I came across this book on PBSWAP, I ordered it right away and then let it sit on my shelf for a month or two. Then I decided to start reading it and wow, I couldn't put it down. To me, it shouldn't have the word Coach in the Title but this book is all about improving your life, doing the right things for the right reasons and doing the suggestions in this book are guaranteed to bring you success if you read it and take action on the suggestions! I am not even kidding you right now! Get this book and read it. Then tell me if I'm wrong if you think I am. But I bet you will say, as I did, that this is one of the best self help, goal achieving, success getting books you have ever read in your entire life! Because it is! Great job Talane! I've never even heard of you, but now that I have, I have to say you are an amazing writer!
This book wasn’t really about coaching. It reads more like a collection of self-help tips and personal advice — some useful, many repetitive, and far from what I’d expect in a coaching framework. Helpful if you’re looking for a light self-help or tips-oriented read, but not if you’re seeking a professional coaching book.
Professor Younger at OSU-Newark gifted me this book last Summer. I thought to myself, at first, does she think I am a failure? What are the implications that one gives off when giving a self-help book to another? I finally read it, and from the very first chapter I realized that it wasn't Professor Younger that I had reservations about, but my own personal feelings towards the self-help genre. Further, I also learned at the beginning of the book, just how great this piece of publication really is.
I created my "Top 60-100 Tolerated Annoyances" list like Talane Miedaner, the author, suggested. I began working on them. As she suggested, as you cross off completed ones add to the list if any arise. The goal is to ultimately work down to very few, the list will never end, but it will become much more manageable, and the stress of "tolerated annoyances" will drastically diminish.
Most recently, I held a get together at my apartment with a few close friends. One of Talane's ideas was to play "The Billionaire Game" to find what all things, places, or jobs I would like to have if money were not an object. During my party, I thought it would be a fun way for us to bond, but also get to know each other on a deeper/more intimate friendship level. I think we all enjoyed it, and we have been able to make it known what it is we really want in life.
Ms. Miedaner's book has helped me discover more things about myself, and open my eyes to things that I was not aware of, or even the things that I keep suppressing. I am forever grateful to Professor Younger for this book, and to Talane Miedaner, which is allowing me to become more successful in almost every facet of my life imaginable.
Talane Miedaner wrote "Coach Yourself to Success" nearly twenty years ago. It is one of the most dog-eared books on my bookshelf. In my opinion, her work has stood the test of time with practical, accessible methods to better organize your life and respond to the events and people that - for good or for bad - influence it. Ms. Miedaner's prose is straightforward. She does not get bogged down in the conceptual as so many self-help authors do. She is not rooted in religious or new age dogma as so many self-help authors are. Instead, she provides concise, relatable best practices for coaching oneself to success. One of my favorite books. I highly recommend.
There are literally 101 things we all can do - one thing, one day at a time to be successful in relationships, career, business, sports - you name it. This book will help you organize your life. I have recommended it to several friends and colleagues.
Excellent! This book is really thorough. Talane Miedaner will get you to reflect upon all aspects of your life including your relationships, home, work.... I thoroughly recommend it to anyone interested in personal growth.
I've read a book called Coach Yourself To Success by Talane Miedaner. This book is about a woman named Talane Miedaner giving her point of view on what she experienced in her life how she got trained to be successful and achieve her goals. When I read this book about her I was amazed that there were many examples of her reaching goals like increase your natural power, communicate with power, grace an style, making money work for you, taking care of your best asset and do work you love. Although I would like to admire Talane Miedaner for her work also I would like to improve my work in same fields as her with the guidance of my parents and grandparents. Whom I love them most. However I recommend this book to anyone those who like to accomplish their goals. By:Shalini Gogineni
This one was ok. Some of the tips resonated with me more than others. and being that this book is 25 years old now, some of the examples she gave are now outdated, or at least not as simple as they used to be. Overall, this is another one that I believe, if you followed the broader tips, you could see great results.
Well, you can't argue with her success. For me, however, some of the material was a bit too slanted toward a women's point of view. And the bigger issue was how "new agey" a lot of her foundational principles are. With that said, lots of great stuff to be gleaned here...
I really enjoyed this book. It is clearly divided into small chapters that give easy to understand advice. I particularly like the use of real examples.
I think this book is rather vague, it says things like do sport, get a massage, do what you like doing, do less of what you don't like doing. No shit Sherlock.
The thing is that you don't need to read a book to do what you like doing and do less of what you don't like doing.
Great book with lots of useful tips. I gave it a 3 star rating because I felt a lot of the tips were repetitive as well as the author used a bit too many client stories. The client stories were great for providing qualitative data points but they also felt like fluff.
Go to the end of the book and fill in the "Are you coachable?" test to find out if this book will be of any help. In my opinion, if you have a long commute to work, or dependents (small children etc), or don't have infinite resources, chances are you'll find the tips mildly irritating. The first half of the good is good though, lots of food for thought.
