See Santa deliver his last present. See Santa yawn. See Santa nap. See Flop bang his new drum. See Santa wake up! Poor Santa is exhausted from delivering presents all night, but he can't find anywhere that's quiet enough to take a nap. Fortunately for him, Otto knows just the place.... The fifth book in a Ready-to-Read series about the irrepressible Otto and his adventures on Earth, which is perfect for both beginning readers and their older siblings. As Kirkus Reviews says, "more Otto, more."
Synopsis:"After delivering presents Santa needs a nap, but Otto and his friends like their gifts so much that Santa cannot find a quiet place to sleep."
My Review: It is a little more difficult than I expected to find Leveled readers for the holiday season, so I had to grab this one when I saw it; little did I know what a big hit it would be. This is a silly book about Santa working hard all night and just wanting a nap but not getting the rest he wants. It is a great level one book with simple sentences and words, lots of repetition and a fun story to keep young readers interested. Munchkin absolutely loved this one, especially since one of his new words this month is see.
Santa is sleeping. And then, um, he gives all the characters in that book. And them him is give Otto the last presents. Why I like that because he was sleeping and him is give the last presents to Otto. So, Santa is awake and him is saw Santa. Some noise come along and him is get awake and some water is come and him get away with water and them a ball is hit him. Him didn't like that so him is get on the water. And then Peanut is come and destroy that and him say help Otto and him go all the way to his treehouse. And them is get sleep. Great, Otto! The End.

Santa finishes delivering all the Christmas presents and tries to get a nap on the beach. But the jungle residents are having too much fun with their Christmas presents and keeping disturbing Santa. Will he ever get a nap?
This was a rather funny look at the way presents can backfire on the adult givers who just want to nap later on in the day. Santa has quite the wild and zany adventure and kids will likely find it hilarious. (It made me chuckle.) Hand this to just beginning to read kids looking for a humorous holiday story.
Told in the style of Dick and Jane - so cute for grown-ups and easy for early readers to figure out.
The only drawback is that I'm not familiar with The Adventures of Otto, so I didn't realize we were already supposed to know who all the characters are. Even so, it's still pretty easy to figure out what's going on!
Books that kindergarteners can read are generally boring and plotless. David Milgrim nailed this book (and the entire Otto series). It is comical and has an interesting plot but is actually easy enough for my son to read! Definite winner and would make an especially fun read right after Christmas.
Very cute beginning-reader book about Santa, after Christmas. All he wants is a nap, but everyone enjoys their new gifts so much they are disturbing naptime.
After a long night at work, Santa needs some rest. Unfortunately, all his gift recipients are too noisy with all of their gifts and gratitude. But Otto has a solution like usual.
I never thought how exhausting life would be for "Santa" or for other high profile people. Love how this book points that out to us and lets us see compassion at work.
After Santa delivers his presents to Otto and his friends in the jungle, he settles down by the pond for a quiet nap, but nobody lets him sleep quietly. He gets sprayed by Pip's new water gun, tackled by the boar with his new football, and splashed by Peanut wearing his new swimming trunks. Poor Santa doesn't get a nap.
Maybe Otto can save the day!
I love this book for beginning readers with its simple words, short sentences, and just a few words a page so that children don't get overwhelmed. Yet every page is full of lovable characters and endearing illustrations. Highly recommended for kindergarteners.
I've got my eye out for books to recommend to lovers of the Fly Guy series and this book is perfect! In this story, Santa is trying to take a nap on the beach. He is exhausted after delivering presents all night. Kids, excited to show Santa their gifts keep waking him up. There are only a few words on each page and lots of word repetition. The humor is fantastic! Fun read for beginning readers.
Our 4-year-old daughter loves the Adventure of Otto series. Not as good as the Otto books but perfect timing as we are right around the holidays. She knows the word "Santa" now. A great sight word series for preschoolers beginning to learn small words on sight.
The title of this book just made me laugh as I passed it on the shelf, so I had to pick it up. Poor Santa is trying to rest after Christmas, but everyone's so busy enjoying their toys and thanking him that they keep interrupting his nap. Very cute.
Oh, poor, poor Santa! I just can't get over how funny the early readers in the Otto and Pip series are! So few words, so many big laughs from my nephew!
I love how this series make the old Dick-and-Jane structure work with an entertaining story. Fun and cute look at Santa trying to relax but thwarted by the presents he's given.
