Heather MacAllister lives in Texas and is married to her high-school sweetheart. Following the instructions in How to Get a Teen-Age Boy, and What to Do with Him When You Get Him by Ellen Peck, one of her all-time favorite books, she expressed an interest in his hobby — ham radio. He challenged her — learn Morse code and get her license, and he’d take her to the senior prom. She did, and currently sports her call sign, WB5RMA, on her car license plate.
Heather became addicted to romance novels in college, yet still managed to graduate and become a music teacher. And then her sons were born. Within seven months, nine baby-sitters quit, so she took pity on the childcare industry, quit teaching, and began avoiding housework by writing during her sons’ nap time.
Heather has published over 40 books with Harlequin. Her award-winning romantic comedies have been translated into 25 languages and published in dozens of countries.
Before she was published, Heather won the Romance Writer's of America Golden Heart Award. Her published novels have been nominated for the RWA RITA award three times, and eHarlequin.com readers voted LONE STAR SANTA favorite Laugh-Out-Loud book of 2006. In addition to awards for best Harlequin Romance and best Harlequin Temptation, Romantic Times Book Reviews has twice nominated Heather for a Career Achievement Award in Series Love and Laughter.
When she's not writing, Heather spends her time collecting vintage jewelry, watching fireworks displays, and killing plants.
3 1/2 Stars ~ Receiving orders from her mother that she's expected to bring a man home for Christmas dinner, Lexi despairs at the pickings of dates in her little town. Not just any man will do for her elitist parents. Her roommate, Frankie points to the University calendar they've been ogling every month. The shirtless, hunky Mr. December is an actual professor researcher, and his hot geekiness makes him perfect.
Spencer and his team of students have been working tirelessly on a robotic arm but dwindling funds force them to think outside the box to raise what is needed to see their project succeed. Promoting their university geek calendar through the Texas Men Magazine seen their sales hit the roof, and all they had to do was date a few of the magazine's readers. When complaints started to come in though from some of the women that the calendar boys don't match their reality, Spencer hears the word 'fraud' and begins to sweat. That is until Lexi shows up at his office looking for a Christmas date.
This is a fun, quick romance with two great leading characters. Ms. MacAllister balances comedy, drama, and just the right amount of sexiness to make this a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Funny and very cute - love the bunch of nerdy scientist geeks. And not too dated even though it's from the 90's. I did get a kick out of the references to technology ("Would you give your 333 MHz Pentium II to a five-year-old to play with? Our would you let him spill his juice on the old 486 until he's ready to upgrade?") and those rubbery fake breasts that were popular then though!
For the length of the book (156 pages in Dutch) the characters of Lexi and Spencer had more depth then expected. The story was fun, I couldn't stop laughing when reading the part about their date in the pool hall. However I didn't like some of the secondary characters. Gretchen was too exaggerated in my opinion. Overall a fun and light read.
