I think Barbara Rose really struck a chord with me. She really brought forth something that was obvious that therapists’ advice never got to the heart of. It’s that the joys and happiness all start with you. All you have is within you. She gives you liberty to be as you are and reminds you that it’s not up to anyone to do, but yourself. You need to love yourself first. Actively, remind yourself of the great things you’ve done, no matter how small, even if no one listens. The more you show love to yourself, the more you change the negative dialogue learned by your factors in your environment to something positive. And begin to believe in your gifts. I understand that Rose’s tragedy dealt with issues of child custody, but there were parts of the book where there was so much advocacy that I forgot the purpose of this book. But I commend her for using the platform.
