After a savage lycan attack destroyed her parents, Kit March has ignored the rules saying only men can be hunters and dedicated her life to destroying lycans. Her profession is hell on her love life, but she's been resigned to the lack of romance until she meets sinfully sexy European werewolf hunter Rafe Santiago. Unfortunately, Rafe is a man with a mission: eradicate rogue hunters from the American branch...and the foremost name on his list is Kit March.
Rafe has always put business before pleasure, but something about this feisty yet vulnerable woman is doing strange things to a man who has never before allowed his emotions to get the better of him. The merciless hunter excels at eliminating threats, but he doesn't know how to handle the threat Kit poses to his heart.
The world of lycans has always been black and white. But now, suddenly, the rules are changing. Forces that have been brewing for generations put Kit and Rafe in terrible danger, and nothing they confront is quite as it seems...including each other. Is the passion between them just as illusory? Or is it the only thing real?
Sharie Kohler took her adolescent dreaming one step further and penned her first story in the back of her high school Spanish class. This passion led her to pursue a degree in English and History. After several years teaching, Sharie decided it was time to pursue her long-held dream of writing.
She believes her decision to write paranormal romances stems from her long-sustained love of horror movies (big fan of Alfred Hitchcock!) and a good love story. This USA Today Bestselling author resides in Houston with her family, juggling deadlines, the demanding needs of her children, and a husband who loves her cooking. Amid the happy chaos, she finds time to write.
I read the first book by Ms. Kohler called Marked by Moonlight and could not get into it until toward the middle of the book. It took her a while to get the story going for me and I was not all that sympathetic to the male hero Gideon but I loved Claire. This book however suffers no such slow start. Kit March is introduced in MBM as Gideon's sister and in that book she seemed more of an annoyance to him. So much so that at times even he did not seem to want to take time for her. In this book, however, the story is solidly hers and Ms. Kohler has done a much better job of developing the story early on so that you understand Kit and get a pretty quick sense of what drives her and why she seems so solitary. However Kit has desires, and wishes and dreams of a normal future; of home, a man to love and children. Well, Ms. Kohler has wrapped up Kit's wishes in a big old christmas bow and calls it Rafe Santiago.
Rafe is originally sent to kill Kit because she is a rogue Lycan hunter and a female. Both of which are not tolerated by the two organizations that sanction the killings of Lycans. But from their first encounter you can see that Kit touches something in Rafe and it may not be so easy for him to eliminate her.
Now I won't reveal the plot twist but suffice it to say that the twist just makes the story jucier, the attraction more potent and by mid way through you are rooting for them both to find their way to each other and survive at all costs even when Rafe is forced to do something which may turn Kit's hatred on him full bore. The intimate scenes are hot, and there are enough of them to totally support the plot and the intensity of the characters. The Lycans who are on the hunt come across as sufficiently terrifying (if a bit too stupid). The one character who makes an appearance from the first book is a centuries old Lycan named Darius and I cannot wait for Ms. Kohler to put her mark on his story in a future book. I also very much appreciate the fact the this IS Kit's book and she has left Gideon and Claire out of the way (on vacation) and given the full stage to Kit, Rafe and the rest of the evil dead crew.
With this book Ms. Kohler has become an automatic buy for me and I look forward to her next effort and hope she can sustain the quality, sensuality and pace in her future work.
3.5 stars This one gets off to a a good start. The action scenes were very good and the romance steamy and intense. The story had interesting twists and developments. Rafe was intense and mysterious with incredible restraint and patience and a great match for Kit. There were times when I wasn't so sure she was a good match for him, however.
Kit was a mule-headed, frustrating, sometimes irritating heroine who didn't spend enough time thinking before acting or talking, which affected my enjoyment of this one. I wanted to like her more because she was a tough, determined, excellent female hunter, but the chip on her shoulder really got in her way. I could understand why she was the way she was but it took her far too long to realize that a lot of her attitude was misdirected.
I did end up enjoying it once I got back to reading it, but I think it just couldn't live up to how much I loved the first one.
Writing style leans towards melodramatic. (especially during the sex scenes)
Lycan Hunter Groups: NODEAL - the National Organization for Defense against Evolving and Ancient Lycanthropes EFLA - the European Federation of Lycan Agents
The two groups are merging, with EFLA at the helm. It plans to get rid of all rogue agents and policy breakers.
Book 1, my favorite, had better MCs and plot. Gideon (the H) and his sister Kit lost their parents young—their lycan infected mom killed their dad. Cooper, head of NODEAL, killed her. He became Gideon's friend and mentor. Darius, the oldest lycan, also helped and became a friend.
Book 2: Kit (26) and EFLA Agent, Rafe (112). The lycan hunter groups don't allow female agents for dumb reasons. That's why Kit is a rogue hunter, working alone to avenge her parents.
Kit was hard to like. She acts tough while fleeing lycans, hunters, and Rafe. Her reckless decisions nearly get her killed. She's cruel to Rafe, hating and fearing him. In the last 10%, she finally realizes she needs and loves him, becoming a better person.
The MCs are at odds for too long. The three sex scenes occur when they don't love or trust each other, so it's just sex with no emotional connection.
Rafe was the better of the two, but he hesitated to tell Kit the truth about himself and her, fearing her reaction. He should've been honest from the start, because his silence caused more trust issues.
📕 Summary & Spoilers: 📕
Kit is on a blind date when she spots lycans in the bar. She abandons her date to lure the lycans outside and kill them. Afterward, she meets Rafe, who tells her about the hunter groups merging and that he's been sent to Houston to stop her and Gideon. He wants to talk, but she drives away.
Kit goes back to Gideon's house, where she's staying while he and Claire are in New Mexico. Darius arrives to say Cooper is dead—killed by the head of EFLA for helping her and Gideon. He also warns her that both hunters and lycans are hunting the siblings.
Now on the run, she stops at her grandmother's house to gather a few things before leaving town. She takes two necklaces: one her mother wore and another given by her grandmother's boyfriend, Jack.
This was hard to believe: Rafe secretly helped the Marshan descendants go into hiding, doing it all alone. He created new lives and identities for many. They went along with it, never revealing themselves and avoiding detection.
😬 Kit is a TSTL heroine: 🔸She fights Rafe and loses. 🔸She refuses Darius' help, is nearly shot and killed, and has to be saved. 🔸She refuses Rafe's help, gets shot and almost dies, and is saved again. 🔸After Rafe lets her go, she's sad from missing him.
Hunters and lycans keep finding Rafe and Kit. Rafe knows there's a tracker on her—likely her necklace from Jack—but doesn't investigate. Jack, revealed as an undercover agent spying on Gideon and Kit, gives a villainous speech before trying to kill them. Kit gets shot and nearly dies again.
The last chapter & epilogue are very good. The MCS are finally like -
★ 𝐅α𝗏ⱺ𝗋𝗂𝗍𝖾 𝐒𝖼𝖾𐓣𝖾: Kit was shot in the stomach by hunters. Rafe rushing her to the hospital, is forced to pull over because she's dying. He licks her wound to change her into a hybrid and save her.
Additional Info.: ♦ EFLA wants to kill all of Etienne Marshan's descendants— the world's first lycan, cursed by a witch. His son, Christophe Marshan, was not infected with the curse. The descendants share DNA with every lycan. A female from the Marshan line can mate with a lycan to create a new hybrid species— a dovenatu. It has the strengths of both humans and lycans, but also their weaknesses.
♦ Rafe and his twin brother Sebastian are dovenatus, born after their mother was raped and impregnated by a lycan.
♦ In the epilogue, Rafe and Kit are married with five children. The whole family are lycan hunters.
I adored the hero, but the heroine, Kit, drove me crazy. I had to take a break from reading this book because Kit's negativity and reluctance to grow from life experiences was simply irritating. The hero, Rafe, reminds me of a sleek, Bond super spy type but with a caring heart. The plot of the book is worth 4 out of 5 stars but Kit's refusal to change ruined the book for me.
Great book. Kept you guessing and had a great surprise twist. Kit and Rafe were great characters with depth and raw emotion. I enjoyed their relationship growth and would highly recommend this second book in what's becoming one of my favorite series.
Kit became a hunter after her parents were killed in a lycan attack. Her very existence flies in the face of all the rules, as women are not allowed to be hunters. For some asinine reason. Whatever. Hunting doesn't lend itself to any kind of a personal life, so Kit has resigned herself to life alone. When she encounters hunter Rafe, she begins to question a life of hunting and loneliness.
Rafe has been called in from Europe to help eradicate not just lycans in the US, but rogue hunters as well. For some asinine reason. Whatever. On top of his list are Gideon March and his sister, Kit. When he encounters Kit, however, Rafe is struck by her alluring combination of toughness and vulnerability. He finds it difficult to focus on his mission while fighting his attraction to the feisty rogue hunter.
This was 352 pages of garbage disguised as romance. So when Kit and Rafe first encounter one another, he has to step in and save her from a lycan attack. Never mind she's been doing just fine by herself until that exact moment. From there, Rafe threatens to kill Kit, abducts her, roughs her up, sexually assaults her and, when she's nearly killed by another hunter, he changes her into the same sort of half-breed lycan that he is. Yes, the author waited until over halfway through this hot mess to reveal that Rafe was a dovenatu and that his true goal all along was to save Kit. Um, what? Gee, dumbass, just think of how things might have gone if you'd told her that UP FRONT instead of letting her believe you were the enemy. Kit, of course, tries to escape at every opportunity, which really just pisses Rafe off, leading him to force himself on her to impress upon her the error of her ways. Be still my heart. And my stomach, because I nearly lost my lunch on more than one occasion reading this. Anyway, the book was basically a series of Kit making a run for it, Rafe tracking her down just in time to save her from the nasties so he could sex her up...lather, rinse, repeat. When Rafe finally decides that maybe, just maybe, he should let her go, Kit leaves and immediately misses him. Because he's handsome. And the nookie was good. Apparently the woman lets her cooter do the thinking for her. You know what? It's the 21st century. Can we PLEASE stop writing male leads as horrid and abusive while the female lead swoons over the abuse because he's so handsome? Blech.
To top off this manure pile, so many things were never explained. Why was Rafe's unit, EFLA, so hell-bent on killing off rogue hunters? Maybe they get lucky and kill a few lycans before getting killed themselves. Who cares? Just how prevalent are lycans? It seemed like the entire world is teeming with them, but if that was the case, wouldn't the mere mortals have noticed by now how many people are disappearing? What do lycans do when they're not out raping and murdering? One would presume they'd have to hold down jobs and maintain some sort of civility, but the author would have us believe they're nothing but ravening monsters. Things need to make sense.
This wasn't a romance, it was Stockholm Syndrome. And it was awful. One star, given with the utmost reluctance.

The heroine has devoted herself to the life of killing Lycans. It's ease to obsess over a thankless and high risk job when one has known little to no love or affection for their entire life as is the heroine's case. With only her brother-who has married and carried on with his own life- and a grandmother who honestly could care less if the heroine lived or died, she doesn't know human connections. But life is lonely and she's beginning to wonder why these feelings of longing are suddenly creeping up. Then she meets the hero. He's dark, mysterious and poses a massive threat to someone who desires that relationship which has always alluded her. He's an agent for the European lycan killing society and they are known for their hatred of female hunters- even if the heroine isn't quite a sanctioned hunter herself. He saves her from a attack which she imagined to have well in hand and as such sparked the urge to hate him because her pride was wounded. It doesn't help matters that he tells her flat out he's been sent to kill her and her brother. But strangely he decides to let her live...and it can only mean she's being used to get to her brother. Than to top everything off, she's informed that her mentor has been murdered, the USA lycan hunters disbanded and a hit has been put out on her and her brother. Running from her life she's found quite easily and attacked once again in her hotel room, this time, when the hero shows up to save her, she can't deny the overwhelming sense of relief and happiness to see him. Shame on her because next thing she knows, he's decided to become her protector. No matter how hard she tries to hate him and ignore his sexiness, they seem to end up in bed together. They say love and hate walk a fine line and nothing more could be true for how she feels toward the hero. But things are about to get even stranger after she makes a run for it and ends up being mortally shot in the stomach. Her life as she knew it is about to change forever. The hero has never failed in a mission before and he's not about to start now. Yes he kills Lycans but his true job is to help people like the heroine and her brother. People who are descendants of the original Lycan and who are like him-half breeds. People who can control their beasts and have been ruthlessly hunted and murdered. But from the start, she isn't just another job. He's protective of her, entranced by her and no matter what she thinks, he does have her best interests at heart. But she is stubborn and blind to any possibility things are not always what they seem and at every chance she runs or says things to make him angry or hurt-because he's not a monster. He's never given into the beast and he's saved her on more occasions than she can count-including changing her to save her life. Knowing this will make her truly hate him, he does it anyway because he can't stand a world without her. As predicted she runs at first chance but it soon becomes apparent how much she's come to rely on her Lycan assassin. For warmth and protection and for unconditional love. She too can't bare to imagine her life without him.
What an improvement from the first in the series, which I really didn't like. Though this heroine is have that annoying trait of imagining she's invincible- she could in fact handle herself in a fight and to be fair, the hero did admit to being hired to kill her and her brother. Perhaps she was a tad bit stupid because she did sleep with him upon their 3rd or 4th meeting but that was a adrenaline and high of escaping certain death. She was very good at rationalizing her behavior and her ignorance but then again she knew nothing else. She didn't have love and affection growing up and a lifetime of killing werewolves doesn't exactly earn you a social life. She was just awkward and detached from her feelings. The hero was pretty cool. Instead of being a tortured hero, he was dark and mysterious but not brooding. He just didn't want to be considered a monster and did everything he could to convince the heroine that she could trust him. It was a daunting task considering his profession and her distrustful nature but they had passion on their side. When in doubt just sleep together, that seems to work everything out.... It was a bit of a sloppy plotline and the action was alright but I still quite liked it. Perhaps it was my memory of the first book that sparked that interest in this one because it was half way decent but nether the less, good job.
Kiss of a Dark Moon opens 2 years after the first book, and the heroine is Gideon's(of the first book) sister. She is a 26 year old rogue hunter(as females are not allowed to hunt lycans). The book opens with some history and we hear about a curse on the Marshans. We later find out that he was the first lycan and his family line is cursed(his only son survived without becoming a lycan), a female from this line can be impregnated by lycans as well producing a hybrid. So, Kit and Gideon are now on the hit-list of every lycan and hunter , ever since their friend Cooper was eliminated and the European division of lycan hunters took over their old organization. Our hero is Rafe, whose assignment is Kit and Gideon, he is supposed to eliminate them, but over and over we see him trying to save Kit, so what he says and do is in conflict. It is later we find out why?He is a hybrid, who has by infiltrating the organization tried and succeeded in re-locating descendants of the Marshans and the reason Kit and Gideon are being hunted is not because they are rogue hunters but because of this and since Kit is a female she has extra danger attached to herself. Rafe's mother was attacked and she gave birth to a set of twins but she raised her children well. Later on when Kit is attacked and Rafe saves her in an unconventional way, comes the conflict. This book was also solid and the characters well done.

2nd Book of the Moon Chasers Series, a paranormal/romance. Kit became a rogue Lycan hunter, after her mother was infected and killed her Dad and she swore to avenge them. She is definitely non-conforming to the requirements and rules of the NODEAL, the agency in charge of eliminating the Lycans, women are not allowed to be hunters. Out in one her hunting trip, she finds out that someone besides the Lycans is trying to get rid of her. A special agent from the American Branch of the European Federation EFLA, was given this mission to eliminate rogue hunters, and that includes Kit and her brother. Things start to get difficult, deep down there is more to the reason that the agency wants them gone, and with that we find that there is more to the history and whom this agent is. The chemistry between them is steamy and intense, he is unrelenting in his search and she is as hard head as they come.
The book has it all, non-stopping action from the beginning, it has mystery and lots of sensuality. This series is proving to be a most read, next installment is already in my pile to be read.
I read this series out of order but I'd recommend you do not. This one is easily my favorite but I think my opinion of the series as a whole would be much higher had I read them in order.
Two years after book #2 ends, we again meet Gideon's, 26 year old rogue Lycan huntress Kit March. Copper (head of NODEAL - National Organization Against Ancient and Evolving Lycanthropes) and Gideon have lessened their resistance to Kit hunting even though it's strictly against the rules. Still she's not a sanctioned hunter and not everyone is willing to turn a blind eye. Enter Rafe Santiago of EFLA (The European Federation of Lycan Agents) with orders to eliminate rouge hunters Kit and Gideon March.
I'm not going to go too much into this book because I think revealing too much of the plot boarders on spoilers. There is a great deal of steam, several parts where your heart is fully engaged and a couple big revelations in this one and it's really a great book. I'm happy they keep getting better. Plus we get a visit from Darius and we learn a little more about this world that contains lycans, including the prophecy of the Dovenatus.
I did like this book better than the first one. Kit is a tough girl, but I have to admit she did drive me nuts too. She really thinks that she can do it all on her own and doesn't need anyone. I also found it odd that she was jealous of Clare and Gideon. Her dream was for a family like the Walton's, so why would she begrudge someone their happiness and why would she not want a big extended family.
I found Rafe to be intriguing right from the start. I was glad that we got to know his background. I can't imagine living your life like that and just how that would effect the way your personality.
Rafe and Kit's chemistry was instantly scorching right from the start, which made for some great scenes between them. I was happy to see the ending happened the way it did, and I loved the last scene.
I gave this series (and author) another shot thanks to a reading challenge. I should've known better, though.
Absolutely no improvement from the book that started it all, Marked by Moonlight. The whole "I know I have to kill you, but I fell for you, and now I don't know what to do" angle has been worked over, through, and behind so many times it's not worth wasting my breath. And the author failed in finding a new and different spin on it.
I like this book very much. The characters were strong and the plot was definite. There was action, suspense and serious steam. I really enjoyed Rafe, he was a fantasy that came alive in this story. This one was as good as the first one, and if there were another, I would absolutely read it. I like Kohler's style and intensity. I wish Kit's character would have made a more gradual transition to Rafe, I would have like to see her weakened more obviously to him and not so hurtful. It could have been a bit longer with a little more played out between them as far as the bonding goes, but that said, it was still very good and easily involving.
In book 2, Kiss of a Dark Moon, we find Kit, Gideon's sister being hunted by Rafe, one of the European Federation of Lycan Agents. She thinks it's because she and her brother are rogue lycan hunters. Rafe is a hot half-breed on a mission to save, not destroy, as ordered.
Looking forward to book 3, To Crave a Blood Moon and learning more about Rafe's twin, Sebastian.
Great read. Much better than the first book, and I liked the first. This book had a great leading man, Rafe, and a twist!!!! Yes Kids Rafe has a secret, also, Kit March, I not who would exspect her to be. Hummmm, I wonder who she is? The only issue I had with this book was Kit, wow how hard headed can you be? Also the end seemed a little rushed, but not so much that it took away from the plot or the action, lots of action...looking forward to reading the next one, already DL'd the sample, keep your fingers crossed kids.
I was first surprised to find that this author is the same one Sophia Jordan. I did enjoy a few of her other books so I was happy to give this one a try. The only issues I had from this were a few plot wholes. The main one from the tracking device. I get that it was the necklace, from her Mother? Or Jack? But my main confusion was, didn't it get left behind at that first rat trap hotel. Rafe only took her bed sheet and nothing else. How could they track her at a cabin or at that restaurant if she hadn't even had it any longer?
I'm going to say that this sequel was nothing like the first of the series. I was eagerly anticipating it and finally read it last week and was kind of disappointed. Granted, I may need to reread the first to get my enthusiasm pumping again, but as of right now I'll give it an "okay" rating. I didn't salivate over the male lead like I would for a K.Moning book and to be honest Kit was kind of irritating and obnoxious. It was an okay read, no more no less.
How wonderful to find another writer I enjoy reading. Kiss of a Dark Moon, by Sharie Kohler, is a paranormal romance/adventure, which is enjoyable and with likeable characters. Werewolves and dovenatu - a new category of paranormal being for us to learn about. Should be an interesting series.
Not the best I've read, but certainly not unpleasant or boring and one I'll be happy to pursue to see where it leads..
The second in the series is a much better read in my opinion. I find the characters believable and likable. A good paranormal romance, heavy on the romance. On a side note, I do not feel as if these books have to be read in order, or even together. There is a short back story about the first book provided, and I feel it is sufficient enough to stave of confusion while reading. A definite re-read for me.
I gave this series a second chance and was pleasantly surprised with the plot. However, the author keeps me wondering things like "Where did she get a gun?" and "When did he tell her that?" Not good. I'm not sure I'm going to give the series a third chance, even though I gave this book 4*s for the plot.
Very good second outing in the Moon Chasers series. I loved sexy dovenatu (half-breed human/lycan) Rafe and feisty lycan hunter Kit. The romance between Rafe and Kit sets off some serious fireworks. Another steamy read in the exciting Moon Chasers series!
Another book I wrote that I enjoyed with a happy face. This used to be my way of saying this author was okay to buy for. I remember a little about the story but I mostly remember I liked it a lot.
Kit and Rafe where okay characters. However, I didn't like the fact how Kit was changed and the epilogue didn't need to be in there. Should have just left the ending with chapter 30. That's just my opinion about this. Hope the next book can bring things up.
This book was better than the first! Tons of action and the plot has taken some interesting twists. I was thinking that this series could be a good "break" in between some of my favorites or heavier books, but it is working it's way up the priority list!
