Rachel Ann Smith writes steamy historical romances with a twist. Her debut series, Agents of the Home Office, features female protagonists that defy convention.
When Rachel isn’t writing, she loves to read and spend time with the family. She is frequently found with her Kindle by the pool during the summer, on the sidelines of the soccer field in the spring and fall or curled up on the couch during the winter months.
She currently lives in Colorado with her extremely understanding husband and their two very supportive children.

This was a great read, I loved every page. Meara puts everything into her characters and always gives you 100% entertainment.
Amelia and Callum her handsome Duke are awesome together, there is a wonderful chemistry between them and they spark off each other beautifully. Of course there is the devious, jealous Diamond to contend with, she doesn’t believe that the Wallflower should have the best man’s attention.
Nevertheless the the man as always gets the girl So much fun to read. Enjoy!
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
This is an anthology with a common theme of men who are rakes or reformed rakes and reticules. Each story is different and not tied to any other story in the book.
I enjoyed all of the stories in varying degrees and reviewed them each separately.
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.

How to Charm an Earl by Dawn Brower
FOUR STARS
I didn’t particularly love this story. I thought it was rushed and lacked character development. That happens a lot when the authors are constrained with word counts and novellas that go into anthologies. I understand that, but if this had been longer and Athena and Roman had been allowed to actually get to know each other, this would have been a solid five star read.
But I don’t snub love-at-first-sight and that’s what this was. Athena is out on a ride when she encounters a man she doesn’t know. He really didn’t tell her she was trespassing, but from the course of conversation, she knew she was and promptly left, hoping to meet him again.
By the time she did meet him again, she and her sisters were to go to London for hers and her twin sister’s, Maeve, debut into society. Their older sister, Isla, was to go with them. How fortuitous that Roman was going to visit his mother for the first time since coming home from the war. He’d been recovering at Lord Thornridge’s estate from serious wounds and hadn’t told anybody he was back.
Athena’s family has a vicious rumor surrounding them. They’re thought of as witches because a relative had been tried and acquitted in Salem, Massachusetts. It follows them around like a dark cloud, making them pariahs.
This was a good story and I did enjoy it. I hope to read Maeve’s and Isla’s stories in the future.
Kiss a Rake at Midnight by Collette Cameron
FIVE STARS
I have to admit that I am enchanted with the Westbrook saga. It started with Mission at Midnight (Book 1) and has kept me captivated ever since. The best part is each book can be read independently and you won’t be lost if you don’t read them order.
This was off the hook good. I loved Fletcher from his first introduction. He’s a business owner of three elite, clean clubs, meaning there are no prostitutes there. He’s a bit of a rake, but his employees are hands-off.
Siobhan has been working in Fletcher’s club disguised as a boy, named Sean. She’d been working there for a few months, doing odd jobs, in an effort to support her sister and stepbrother. Her parents have mysteriously disappeared, leaving her with that responsibility.
When Fletcher discovers she’s a woman and not the young lad he hired, it changed everything for both of them and changed the dynamics of the story. Now, there was a mystery to unravel in who is trying to sabotage Fletcher and why. Who could he trust? Who could she trust?
This was a quick-moving story with adventure, intrigue, great characters, a shocking plot twist, and a heck of a love story.
A Love Letter in Amelia’s Reticule by Meara Platt
FIVE STARS
What could be more romantic than finding a love letter in your reticule from a secret admirer? The mere thought of that had me devouring this story.
Amelia is a bluestocking and a wallflower. She has no social graces, doesn’t know how to flirt or know when somebody is flirting with her, doesn’t know how to dance, and says pretty much what’s on her mind with no filters. She’s highly intelligent, but takes everything at face value and can’t imagine being unkind to anyone even when they are unkind to her.
She and her aunt are at the Duke of Marston’s house party that is a four-day event. She dreaded coming because she’s such a misfit, but the Duke himself—Callum—took her under his wing. He wanted to make sure she had a good time, of course, but he wanted a lot more.
This was a beautiful story about an innocent young woman who thought she wasn’t pretty enough, not clever enough, not anything enough to catch a good man. She would never meet anyone’s expectations and she was okay with that. Meanwhile, this handsome duke is besotted with her and she can’t see it. Honestly, she doesn’t seem to have a lot of common sense, but I adored her.
There’s a mean antagonist, a bluestocking who is interested in historical artifacts, a dashing duke who has a private museum and knows what he wants. Throw in some subterfuge, a couple of love letters left by an anonymous person, and you’ve got this hit of a story.
A Reticule for a Scandal by Cecilia Rene
FOUR STARS
Fitz and Patience were in love five years ago when they were torn apart and he left. Now, he’s inherited a place in the aristocracy from his cousin that’s deeply in debt and has no way to take care of his mother and sister. He needs money and in order to get it, he makes a deal with the Prince Regent to go to Brighton and pick up a reticule from an agent for the Regent’s secret wife. What he wasn’t counting on was that agent being Patience Grant.
Patience is of Jamaican/White descent, which is not something I thought was of much importance to the story, but it is a part of her that cannot be denied. It didn’t affect her socially, economically, or other. Nobody held it against her nor was it ever an issue. It just added to her beauty and mystique. I like character descriptions and this was relevant.
She was held to the same standards as everyone else and was ruined five years ago and not by Fitz. It wasn’t her fault, but it did force her to become independent and want to become a teacher in another city. For her to do that, she has to meet with an agent of the Prince Regent to deliver the reticule.
No big deal. Right? It’s a mere passing an item to another person. What could possibly go wrong? Nothing is ever simple, especially when it comes to stuff like this. I did enjoy that part of the story.
I liked Fitz. I thought he was a good guy with honor and can see why he left when he did. I liked Patience. She was determined, headstrong, and against a brick wall with her family.
I liked this story. I just didn’t love it.
Banking on a Bluestocking by Rachel Ann Smith
FOUR STARS
Oh, how I wish we would’ve had some character descriptions. All we got was that Samuel had sea-green eyes. That’s not enough for me. I want to know everything about the characters; Samuel, Hazel, Richard, and even a glimpse at Daphne and the Duke of Whistlestop would have been nice. On that count, the story was disappointing and it cost it a star.
The story itself was quite good. Hazel was a bluestocking, as the title infers, with interest in the stars. Her first season would have been horrible with all of the backstabbers and mean people, but Samuel was her ever-faithful companion. He wanted her to help him change his rakish ways and she wanted him to help her find a husband.
This went on into her second season with the summer break between seasons. She wanted to distance herself from him because he didn’t want her for himself and was inhibiting her attempts to find a husband. He had no choice but to abide by her wishes.
This was a good read with an unrequited love theme. I liked Hazel. I liked Samuel. I liked them as individuals and I liked them together. Their story was sweet, a bit predictable, but totally enjoyable.
Pads, Purses, and Plum Pudding by Aubrey Wynne
FIVE STARS
This story grabbed me from the very beginning with the start of Sampson Brooks’ life before and after tragedy struck. I don’t want to say too much about any of it because I don’t want to throw any spoilers out there. This is so worth the read.
But it isn’t just Sampson, who does grow up to become a successful doctor. It’s also Dottie, a widow, who has been duped by her husband and a waif, Violet, who does not speak, but has been taken in by Dottie and her employers/landlords.
A few things stood out for me. The first thing is that neither Sam nor Dottie are a part of the ton. They’re common folks with jobs, pride, dreams, and loving souls. The second thing was that to be a family, you don’t have to be blood relatives. Sam is a part of a family where nobody is related, but Paddy O’Brien and his wife, Margaret, had no children of their own and fostered waifs from the street, made sure they were educated, then formed a detective agency called Paddy’s Peelers. I loved the camaraderie between Sam, his brothers, one sister, and the O’Brien’s. Their relationship is heartfelt and genuine and endeared them all to me.
Dottie sells pastries on the street every Sunday. Sam loves tarts and stops to buy something every time he sees her out there. He’s enamored with her and wants to know more about her. He knows she’s a widow, but what else? He wants to know everything.
She’s enamored with him, too, but she’s holding something back from him and for a good reason. I was hoping it wouldn’t be a big deal when he found out, but it was. But love conquers all and we got our happy ending. Yay!
This is the first story of a new series coming out. I’ve not read any work by this author before, but after reading this, I want to read more and am looking forward to reading the Paddy’s Peelers series.
Set of six short books, themed around -you guessed it rakes or reticules, or both or neither.
How to Charm an Earl - three sisters, daughters of an earl shunned because their mother was american, and a distant relative of someone wrongly caught up in the Salem witch trials. Not my favourite by this author, suspect as a set they might work, but this was all to easy for Athena, no tension or difficulties to overcome. Riddled with spelling mistakes.
Kiss a Rake at Midnight - part of an on going series, pleased to see Fletcher get his story told. Idea of woman masquerading as a man never seemed v plausible to me. Siobhan our leading lady swings between love and hate at an alarming rate!
A Love Letter in Amelia's Reticule - probably my favourite of the six. lady Amelia is shy, bookish, and well read, and when taken to a Dukes house party is certain the duke has taken her under his wing at the request of her aunt. Why else would such a charming man spend so much time with her and protect her from the spite of the other young ladies present?
A Reticule for Scandal - after inheriting a bankrupt earldom, Fitz is asked by the Prince Regent to retrieve a reticule from a contact in Brighton, if successful his debts will be written off. If course his contact is Patience who broke his Hart five years ago. Book feels like it was once a full length book and had large bits cut out to make it fit, all a little rushed.
Banking on a Bluestocking - Lady Hazel is embarking on her first season, her brother has given her names of rakes to avoid, so if course she becomes best friends with one of them. By her second season Hazel knows she's fallen for Samuel, but he doesn't want her.
Pads, Purses and Plum Pudding - Sam loses his parents before he's a teenager, after his father falls victim to a scam and is imprisoned. He's fortunate to be taken in by Paddy and his wife, and raised with six other children rescued from the street. Leaving a public hanging that Paddy's Peelers helped convict he bumps into Dottie and is intrigued. Start of a new series set around Paddy and Margarets adopted children, and Paddy 's Peeler detective agency.
In How to Charm an Earl, Roman and Athena meet while riding and form an instant connection, but her mother’s past and cruel members of ton could keep them apart. Their relationship happened very quickly but time was given at the end towards it.
In Kiss a Rake at Midnight, Siobhan is discovered impersonating a boy at Fletcher’s establishment and at first he thinks her intentions are darker than desperation to keep her and her young siblings off the street and fed, but soon realizes she can help him expose those who would wish him ill. This was an age gap romance.
A Love Letter in Amelia’s Reticule takes place at a house party where nasty debutants are brazenly chasing after a duke but he’d rather be with the shy flower who is passionate about antiquities but doesn’t appreciate her own worth especially after those ton ladies keep ridiculing her. She receives love notes from a secret admirer that could challenge Callum’s affections.
In A Reticule for Scandal, Fitz is sent on a quest to retrieve a reticule from a lady with some important papers to clear the debts he inherited when he runs into his old love Patience, who dreams of a future away from scandalous life her greedy nasty grandmother and a disgusting leacher are trying to force on her where she can teach ladies to empower themselves. This was a steamy second chance romance.
In Banking on a Bluestocking, debutant Lady Hazel becomes friends with rakish Samuel to help each other but in the process loses her heart. If only Samuel can see her as more than a friend and her brother can accept that he is worthy of her before she is accepts another’s hand in marriage.
In Pads, Purses, and Plum Pudding Sam, Dottie, and young Violet are of the working class and have all hit rock bottom from circumstances out of their control, but will Sam forgive Dottie for her connection to his family’s destruction? This was a kisses only romance.
Rakes & Reticules: Reticule for Scandals. My fellow readers. What is there to say about the Reticule for Scandal, except it was bloody good. There was request of duels at set times. Scandals popping off at every turn. A hero who sees it as his mission to stands as a shield to protect Patience from danger. But what if that danger just so happens to be close to home? It was awesome to read how the events between Patience and Fritz unfolded during the most critical moments that Prinny has assigned to Frirz. Unbeknownst to Fritz he had no clue that the love of his life would be smack dabb in the middle of his assignment. You will love Patience. She is a women who fights hard to have the life that she has always wanted. Her character is one who relates to the plot, and sub-plot of the story. I genuinely loved reading her connection to the story, and her connection toFritz. I absolutely loved that the writer shared/ focused more of the story on these two. The description of Patience and her family is exceptionally brilliant. The soft and clarifying words holds so much power to the visionary look of Patience. The same could be said for Fritz’s character. The story is one the moves freely without added information that has no connection to the story. The characters all, were perfect. From Ms. Miller down to Philips love for Mary Ann I could read the emotion’s through creative wording from the writer. I enjoyed read the romance the most, because I was carried away by Patience and Fritz’s love for each other. The love story is a wonderful and entertaining read to cuddle up to with your hot coco and a cozy chair with a blanket. I give this story two snaps and a twist. Until next time my fellow readers. Read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I was gifted this ARC copy from Meara Platt, so I will be reviewing her book, 𝘼 𝙇𝒐𝙫𝒆 𝑳𝙚𝒕𝙩𝒆𝙧 𝙞𝒏 𝑨𝙢𝒆𝙡𝒊𝙖'𝙨 𝙍𝒆𝙩𝒊𝙘𝒖𝙡𝒆, and have summarized the other five books.
𝟓 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐒 * * * * * 𝑨 𝑳𝙤𝒗𝙚 𝙇𝒆𝙩𝒕𝙚𝒓 𝒊𝙣 𝘼𝒎𝙚𝒍𝙞𝒂'𝒔 𝑹𝙚𝒕𝙞𝒄𝙪𝒍𝙚 𝙗𝒚 𝑴𝙚𝒂𝙧𝒂 𝑷𝙡𝒂𝙩𝒕 - Amelia is a shy and overlooked debutante who finds a mysterious love letter in her reticule during a house party hosted by the Callum, Duke of Marston. She assumes it is a mistake and brings it to the duke's attention, hoping to find the rightful owner. However, as they work together to solve the mystery, they discover a mutual attraction and admiration that neither expected. Callum is not only the duke, but is also a handsome and charming rake, & it doesn't take him long to realize that Amelia is the perfect match for him, and Amelia, who is a smart and kind-hearted lady, sees beyond his reputation and falls in love with him. Their romance is a charming and heartwarming story that will make you smile and swoon.
𝑹𝙖𝒌𝙚𝒔 & 𝑹𝙚𝒕𝙞𝒄𝙪𝒍𝙚𝒔 is a delightful collection of six historical romance novellas, each featuring a lady and her reticule, and a rake who falls for her. The stories range from witty and charming to steamy and adventurous, with a variety of settings, characters, and tropes. So, whether you prefer a spy to a wallflower, a clean gaming hell owner to thief, you will find something to enjoy in this anthology. The authors have done a great job of creating engaging plots, sparkling dialogue, and swoon-worthy romance. The only downside is that some of the stories felt too short and could have been developed more. Overall, Rakes & Reticules is a perfect read for fans of historical romance who are looking for a quick and satisfying escape.

A lovely story which kept me hooked and smiling right from the start.
Amelia is a sensible, intelligent and shy bluestocking and certainly not adept in socializing or flirtation. And she has no clue who or why someone would leave a love note in her reticule...

They meet at the hanging, Dottie to see her husband’s demise, Sampson to witness the death of some responsible for his parents death. When they meet again, Sam becomes a regular customer buying her pastries. But will their pasts and her secrets destroy their budding affection?
This wonderful collection has everything from witchcraft to Rembrandt. Each story is unique, creative and uplifting. Some characters must overcome hardships, while others just have to be persuasive. You will find past loves reunited, snarky title seekers, innocence, candor and half a dozen stories that will captivate, inspire and entertain you. This is a must have for your romance library!
How to Charm an Earl - Dawn Bower Athena and Roman Delightful! Roman, The Earl of Kendal, recovering at his friend’s country estate from injuries sustained at Waterloo, met Athena while both he and she were out for a ride. He knew instantly that she was the one for him, and when she and her sisters went to London for the Season, he followed. Rumors of witchcraft made Athena and her sisters’ Season difficult, and fact that they were beautiful didn’t help either, as jealousy gripped the other ladies making the girls feel unwelcome. Roman was determined to marry Athena and when she fled, he followed. This quick story is full of emotional moments, hints of things both past and present, and has a most satisfying ending.
Kiss a Rake at Midnight - Collette Cameron Siobhan and Fletcher Oh so good! This story has multiple twists and turns, wonderful characters and some simply enchanting moments. Fletcher enlists Siobhan’s to help him catch the couple he believes is threatening his livelihood and his life. He forms a plan and danger, secrets and madness follows. Along the way, Fletcher falls in love with Siobhan and her siblings, and they with him. I found myself instantly wrapped up in the emotion and excitement of this tale, and just could not put it down. Loved it!
A Love Letter in Amelia’s Reticule - Meara Platt Amelia and Callum This is a story about one duke and two women, who couldn’t be more different. Amelia accompanied her Aunt Rosie, the Dowager Duchess of Redfern, to the Duke of Marsten’s house party, where she intended to hide away in the library reading. Callum, the Duke of Marsten, had other plans. He had noticed Amelia at other events and wanted to get to know this wallflower better, so he offered to take her under his wing and help her navigate the weekend’s activities. Deciding that he was doing this at her aunt’s request, Amelia relaxed somewhat and enjoyed that she was pair with Callum during some of the events. Meanwhile two things happened. Amelia found an unsigned love note in her reticule, and Lady Dorothea, one of the ton’s ‘diamonds’who had decided to snag the Duke for herself, started to discredit and malign Amelia. This is a rather sweet story. Callum enjoys Amelia’s guilelessness and naivete. She sees him for the man she is, not the title he wears. Amelia is refreshingly genuine, in stark contrast to Dorothea’s egocentricity and conniving ways. There is a surprise twist regading the notes found in Amelia’s retucle, and the author uses it to cleverly give Dorothea her much deserved set down. This is quick, beautifully written, and oh so enjoyable!
A Reticule for Scandal - Cecilia Rene Patience and Ambrose (Fitz) Earl of Killingworth Ambrose, better know as Fitz, met Patience five years ago when he was a solicitor. They fell in love in a very short time, but when he asked for her hand in marriage, Patience’s grandmother informed him that she had better prospects, and denied permission. Meanwhile, Fitz’s friend, Walter Reeves, heir to a barony, staked his claim. Patience refuse, but by that time Fitz was gone. Now, half a decade later, Fitz is the much indebted Earl of Killingworth on a mission that brings him directly in contact with Patience. Their feelings ignite and they uncover the truth of what happened all those years ago. This story is emotionally charged and intriguing. The dynamic between the members of Patience’s family leaves a lot to be desired, but in the end, they all get what was coming to them. This story is quick, captivating and emotionally satisfying!
Banking on a Bluestocking - Rachel Ann Smith Hazel and Samuel (Viscount Thornsbee) When it became Hazel’s time to make her debut, her brother Richard, the Earl of Bixley, warned her about certain rakes whom she should avoid. Although she agreed, one of them, Samuel Mowbry, Viscount of Thornsbee, set her heart and stomach aflutter. He declared that they were friends and should help each other. He would help her find a husbsnd, snd she would help him shed his rake reputation to become more respectable and respected. What follows is a quick story where the two people fumble with a friendship that wants something more. Hazel and Samuel are quite adorable, and although he is a bit overprotective, Richard is a stand-up guy who adores his sister. I love the fact that it is another rake who makes a pact with Hazel and ends up saving the day. Quite a sweet story!
Pads, Purses and Plum Pudding - Aubrey Wynne Dorothea and Sampson Deception and desperation give Dottie a surrogate daughter and a new life making pastries. Dr. Sampson J. Brooks finds himself fascinated by a woman he encountered at a public hanging. When he discovers her selling baked goods in the park on Sundays, he makes it his habit to be there to further their acquaintance. One thing leads to another until their pasts rear their ugly heads and derail their relationship. Although this is a story dealing with unpleasant instances, it does not have a heavy nature. Dottie exhibits strength in her vulnerability, and Sampson is a stand up guy. This story displays a non-wealthy community, and shows the resourcefulness and resiliency of people to whom fate has dealt a severe blow. I really liked this tale and am thrilled that it is the precursor to a new series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This wonderful collection has six stories, all of which are great. I am reviewing only three so the review will not be so long. These were the ones I lived best. This is a great book to revisit authors you love and meet some new ones. I received an ARC from book sprout and wish to thank them. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it. Great set of books to spend a rainy or snowy day with.
How to charm an Earl by Dawn Brower This was a great, fun story about three sisters. Isla the oldest had a very unhappy coming during her season and now loves staying in the country. The twins are to have their season this year. The family is looked down on by the ton and made to fill unwanted. Athena and Maeve aren't looking forward to theirs either. Athena meets a stranger while riding and finds him very handsome and interesting. Roman, an Earl is staying at a friend's estate to heal from a war injury when he runs into Athena. Our couple follow their hearts and don’t listen to either the ton or friends and family. Cute story
Kisss a Rake at Midnight, by Collette Cameron Fletcher Westbrook is the son of a Powerful Duke and has a Hugh family. He runs a social club in London. Someone is out to cause him and the club trouble. When he questions a young lad, he has working for him, he learns he is a female instead. Siobhan Kenney has had a rough life, her family had to flee Ireland and then her parents are missing. She had no skills to earn money to care for her younger brother and sister. She disguises herself as a young boy and finds work in a club. Unfortunately, she falls ill, and her secrets come out. Fletch thinks she is part of those trying to cause him harm. Neither trust the other, till secrets, fears and love of family draw them closer. Great read with some intrigue, mystery with lots of passion and love too.
Pads, Purses, and Plum Pudding by Aubrey Wynne This is an amazing story of how hard life was in the 1800s in London. It is also about how common people help others. Patrick O’Brien and his lovely wife Margaret come over from Ireland. He was a police officer there and stayed in the same line of work in London with the bow streets. They took in unfortunate children who were living on the streets and gave them a chance to become good adults. Their family grew to six in all. Sam was left on his own when he was just 10, after his parents were sent to jail through no fault of their own. He is a Dr now helping others and finally see’s the man who hurt his parents hang. He spots a lovely sad lady there too. Over time they run into each other and are attracted to each other. Dorothea (Dottie) and a little girl, Violet, that found her at the hanging find a place to live and work at the pub run by Mr. And Mrs. Clatterly, a very nice couple who help Dottie. As Sam and Dottie draw close the secrets in their past could ruin any love affair, they might have till a very wise woman helps them out.
How to Charm an Earl by Dawn Browser 4* When Lady Athena Thompson met Roman James, Earl of Kendal there was a mutual attraction. However, Athena’s family was looked down upon by the ton, because of the mystery surrounding her mother’s family. When rumours started to affect the Earl, Athena left for the country. What would Roman do? These were two very likeable characters, even though Athena liked to do her own thing, she was aware of the effect it may have on others. Roman had suffered during the wars and didn’t have a loving family but he knew what he wanted. This was an enjoyable read. Kiss a Rake at Midnight by Collette Cameron 5* This was an entertaining read concerning another of the Westbrook family. Fletcher is a successful businessman but he is receiving threats. He doesn’t know who is sending them or why. Siobhan Kenny is trying to provide for her siblings as their parents have mysteriously disappeared. I enjoyed the connection between Fletcher and Siobhan, also the mystery of who was behind the threat and why. There are some dangerous events and also some very romantic moments in this sweet romance. Pads. Purses and Plum Pudding by Aubrey Wynne. 5* This was a really great read. I loved that it was about ordinary people and not members of the ton. Dottie Brown and Dr. Sampson Brooks had both experienced hardship in their backgrounds, albeit in different ways. I did like that they were both prepared to help others. Although, they both felt an attraction, it is a gentle romance and isn’t rushed. I liked the sound of the series based on the ‘family’ of Sampson and I will be looking out for that.
How to Charm An Earl by Dawn Brower I enjoyed this story but the author desperately needs a good editor. Lots of misspelled words and punctuation mistakes that were distracting. There is a portion that is quite steamy. My interest has definitely peaked and I am looking forward to more stories about the Thompson sisters. Kiss A Rake at Midnight by Collette Cameron This book is part of a series called the Chronicles of the Westbrook Brides. But, it is definitely a stand alone read as well. I thoroughly enjoyed Fletcher’s tale. There were a few twists and turns that had me on the edge of my chair. I couldn’t put this story down. Well done! A Love Letter in Amelia’s Reticule by Meara Platt I thought this was a delightful story and very well written. I think the heroine Amelia is so relatable. She sees herself as nothing but a wallflower but in reality she is quite beautiful. Very well told romance. A Reticule for Scandal by Cecilia Rene I liked this story. It is a little bit like Persuasion with the hero and heroine meeting for a second chance at romance. There is a steamy scene.
Pads, Purses, and Plum Pudding by Aubrey Wynne The first tale in Paddy's Peelers was just darling, as to be expected from this author. Dottie has a horrible husband who is hanged. While there, she encounters a stray child that she takes under her wing and treats as her own. They find refuge in a house where she trades work for room and board. When Dottie is selling her treats at the market, she encounters a dashing man. They can't ignore the sparks. Continued encounters lead to a courtship that will make you swoon. Can't wait to see more of this series.
This is a collection of six historical romances. They are short and quick reads that warm the heart. Each story offer something unique and with different types of characters finding love. I enjoyed all of the stories and got introduced to one or two new authors.
Six delightfully entertaining novellas by five of my favorite authors and one new to me.
Kiss a Rake at Midnight by Collette Cameron Fletcher Westbrook owns a social club and several other entertainment venues in London. When Siobhan Kenney’s parents suddenly disappeared, she disguised herself as a boy and went to work at Fletcher’s club to support her siblings. At the same time the club and Fletcher are being threatened, he learns Siobhan’s true identity. When she falls ill, he brings the siblings to the club. Is her disguise innocent, as she claims, or is she involved with those threatening the club? An engaging and enjoyable story with great characters. There is danger, mystery, some twists and a surprise or two, and romance. A lovely novella and addition to the series. I voluntarily reviewed this story.
