My co-worker told me to find this book, as it taught him how to bartend when he received a job as a bartender through white lies and exaggeration. He could talk the talk, but needed to learn quick how to walk the walk!
This guide has just about every drink imaginable and the index is sorted in a sensical way (unlike other bartending books I've used) by the name of the drink, not the alcohol that goes in it. When you are learning, you don't always know what base liquor to use, but the customer will order by name most of the time. If you don't know it, it's easy to quickly and sly look at the index and then confidently make a cocktail for a customer! Another very helpful part of this book is that most recipes include which bar fruit to include with the drink. Many books don't include this and you are either left to automatically know or guess. It's a better learning tool to include it in the recipe.
My main complaint though is that this book doesn't offer many pictures. I'm personally a very visual learner and seeing a picture of the finished drink is a nice assurance that I made it right. The best thing hands down about this book though, is the fact that it comes with a waterproof cover! Someone was thinking :)
I really liked this book but seeing as how I work in a night club it would be more useful to me if it included more common drinks/shots as I sometimes forget how to make them and it would be cool to have it around when I'm working so people could look through it. I love the idea of the waterproof cover though, and if I ever want to have a cocktail party I will rule at it!
