3.25 stars. This book had awesome action with a basic ass plot. The Red Hulk is on the loose and Banner and others are trying to stop him and figure out who he is. Again, the plot is very simple but the book shines with some great fights with Red Hulk and a plethora of Marvel characters. Plus McGuinness, Art Adams and Frank Cho all bring their A game on art duty.
The edition I have collects Hulk #1-9, King Size Hulk #1, and the backup story from wolverine #50. This is a pretty good story, and I really loved the art. My only complaint would be that it felt like the plot didn't advance as much as I would have liked it to, especially for such a large volume. However, it was a pretty easy read, so I can't complain too much.
The artwork was great but I've read better dialogue. And having a chapter where Red Hulk drop kicks half the women in the Marvel lineup without breaking a sweat (mainly, I'm guessing, because the author and artist wanted to really zoom in on the women's brick house figures) was just dumb. I read a comic devoted to Storm kicking the collected ***es of Black Panther, Cyclops and The Shadow King last week only to be treated to her getting stomped by big red this week? And in this fic she had hella backup!
I don't know much about She-Hulk in other works but they clearly didn't know how to write interesting dialogue for women in this book. Hell bent on revenge after a beatdown I understand but 'let me call up my girls to give a whoopin'? Really? That's as far as the plot was thought through? That's just pitiful.
And don't even get me started on 'Wendi-Hulk'. This whole book was mainly just an excuse to have some seriously beautiful artwork put together with not a lot of plot. But I will say this- A-Bomb was the prettiest shade of blue I've ever seen.
I picked this up to try to get some sort of background as to what has been happening with Hulk and get a little bit of understanding towards the whole red hulk thing. Not sure this was the best place to start. Will fill this out further once I finish. Meh, it was a pretty book... But it is not the place to start if you are looking for a starting place to get to where the hulk(s) are now.
