A collection of nineteen stories brings together the works of Paul Theroux, Sue Miller, Alice Munro, William Trevor, and others, and follows a theme about new places and perspectives as brought on by travel. By the compiler of The Literary Lover. 15,000 first printing.
A collection of nineteen short stories about travel, in most of which the travelers were more interesting than the road traveled. My favorites were: “Delirium Eclipse” by James Lasdun; “Hold Me Fast, Don’t Let Me Pass” by Alice Munro; “Which Is More Than I Can Say About Some People” by Lorrie Moore; “Virgin of Tenderness” by Kate Braverman; and “Succor” by Allen Barnett.
Fay Weldon's grim story and Paul Bowles' memoir the only things of note. Since just about every tale was concerned with sexual or sexually charged encounters between tourists, a lot of possible richness lost.
