Bri's uncertain of whether she finds it more unnerving or thrilling that Kole, a warrior well over six feet in height and built like the hulk, watches her with hungry, covetous eyes, until the slavers who captured her toss her into his habitat with him for breeding. Then she knows it's both, but it's even more unsettling to find herself the object of desire of two six and a half foot males-particularly since Kole and Dansk seem perfectly willing fight to the death to settle which of them gets to breed her. Rating: Contains graphic sex, graphic language, graphic violence.

I was in the mood for pulp fiction romance b-movie style. This looked like exactly what I needed, some Hulksmash romance. It started out perfect with the heroine kidnapped from her car and kept as a slave by strange spiderlike aliens. Then it turned out they stole the human women to breed with the Hirachi - Hulklike men, although without the temper - and I was rubbing my hands together with glee.

However, turned out the heroine was actually quite smart, not the brainy kind of smart, but just simply resourceful and actually thinking things trough before she acted. It was refreshing how she kept evaluating everything in her situation. At first she was quite frightened by the Hirachi, but she quickly realized they were in the same boat, and realized that their behavior when it was strange to her, was simply natural for them.

They asked each other questions about each others culture. No huge insulted misunderstandings. It was a miracle. So yeah the first half was really great, with the whole living as a slave thing and alien culture thing, and then came the Hulksmash sex and it was hot without being porny.

(Although Moss' comment on my status update came very close to the intercourse here.
"Hulkhero not sure if heroine is fragile virgin or fragile non-virgin so Hulkhero goes for middle ground and gives her ten million orgasms so her passage is well lubricated for Hulkhero's ten-foot penis! "
None of that virgin stuff though.)

I really liked the portrayal of the other women as well. Some were jealous, some were bigoted, some just wanted to make the best of it, but they were all afraid. Very realistic.

However, somewhere about the middle the constant inner monologues about the being a slave situation started to drag the story down. It got better when they finally arrived on the planet, but for a story about slavery with hot Hulksmash heroes, the middle section was kinda boring. And since I had jumped down of my B-movie state of mind to higher expectations I was disappointed by that.

I liked the development of the relationship between Bri and Kole, and loved the short insights in his way of thinking. The relationship with Dansk seemed a bit underdeveloped though, and I would have been equally satisfied if it had just been Kole and Bri. (To be clear, this isn't a ménage story, but a polyamorous one. Bri has two alien lovers, but there's no scenes with the 3 of them together.)

The ending was quite exciting though and made up for the dragging middle part. All in all, I'm happy I read this, and I'm going to try one of this authors Cyborg books soon.

***

Edit: I forgot, this book has one of the most hilarious metaphors in a sex scene ever. Definitely the pulpiest moment of the book.

I think Kaitlyn O'Connor is one of the first authors that introduced in romance novels the concept: “Human girls are abducted by evil aliens for slavery and experimentation and then they are saved by the good aliens and they will eventually breed with them and they will never go back to Earth.”

Bri is one of these girls in this novel that was initially published in 2006. And no matter that almost 15 years have passed, the ideas are so fresh and imaginative and they outstrip many new scifi romance novels.

So Bri is abducted by evil aliens and she is thrown in a fake environment like a zoo where she is expected to breed with a number of huge alien males.

Hirachi males are also enslaved. Their females will be killed and they are expected to breed these tiny human girls. Hirachi alien race are warriors and very proud. They hate that they are enslaved. So far they have been killing their offspring, so that they will not be slaves too. The human girls will change their mentality. The children need to live. And Hirachi and humans need to escape.

I loved how the relationship between Bri and the two Hirachi (Kole and Dansk) develops. Also the relationship between Bri and the rest human girls will not be smooth all the time. Her sensitivity and love for the Hirachi babies is the most important part of the book for me.

I'm going to get this down while it's still fresh in my head. Because I honestly don't know if I'll remember much of it in a day or two.

So. Earth girl is kidnapped off the road, in her car, in the middle of night in the middle of nowhere by aliens called Sheloni. She wakes up in a "hotel" room where nothing is really quite right. After a few days, she's forced outside to discover she's been put in a habitat with another human woman and a bunch of alien guys called Hirachi. They're all slaves. And the gals are part of a new breeding experiment to make the next generation of slaves more docile. Is it a good thing that she's got two of the most virile aliens panting after her?

Interesting idea. Very interesting. And if I was to judge just by the synopsis I read on Amazon, I could almost expect a light-hearted romp similar to several others I've read. But something seemed darker about this one. Less focused on smut, even though she's a breeder for these alien slavers. And the first half of the book had me riveted. I was intrigued, frightened and drawing comparisons to the underground and world wide sex slave trade we hear about on the news. I was thinking I had picked up a full-length psychological sci-fi thriller. I was totally impressed.

Now, maybe I was just too tired last night (I stayed up until 3am reading) that I didn't notice how goddamed annoying Bri really was. Or how much fucking navel gazing this chick indulged in. And how many goddamn fucking questions she asked herself purely to move the plot along. I understand that she's being held in a pen with nothing to do all day, but seriously. Enough was enough. Here's an example, just one of many:

Did that mean it was possible assuming they could find a way out of the habitats to reconnoiter? Gather materials they could put together to make weapons? Plant traps?

Could they afford to wait to arrive at their destination and see if conditions were better? Or would they find when they arrived that the Sheloni outnumbered them even more?

And yes, those paragraphs are connected. I didn't want to search for the three in a row I encountered earlier.

Worse still was the Hirachi dudes. For some random reason that was never fully explained, the human women were suddenly able to understand the alien guys. Some translator was implanted in their brains. (Why just the women? Why didn't the dudes get translators implanted? Or even a Babel fish for fucks sake??) Then! The two dudes who want our heroine launch into several page monologues out loud and in front of the chick in their native language, apparently feeling safe to do so since they thought she couldn't understand them. And what do ramblings out loud accomplish? Nothing other than info dumps and an attempt to establish that these guys aren't just hot for some human pussy. No, these two have found themselves arse over tits in their version of love for her and want to protect her, even above their own safety and that of their fellow Hirachi captives. Riiiight. Just because she's so damned beautiful.

And the story just went from good to WTF? from there and stalled out. Never got the momentum back. Nothing really even happened until the last 10 pages of the book! And that last chapter? Made me want to gag. Seriously? SERIOUSLY??

There are at least two other books dealing with the Hirachi, but I feel no urge to buy them. Meh.

Kaitlyn O'Connor is one of my favorite authors. (thanks Julie...like I needed ANOTHER one!) Honestly, I am not a HUGE fan of Sci-Fi books in general. Y'all know that I am a contemporary/paranormal fan, but I have to admit, Kaitlyn's books are my dirty little secret. Why do I like them so much? Because in my opinion, her plot and the world she creates are very thought out. I can literally see the new surroundings she puts her characters in. I can see their fear and feel their happiness. Her characters are people (or aliens) I would like to be friends with. They are everyday people thrown into extraordinary circumstances that somehow survive when others may have given up. Her main characters seem to find a connection, not only as friends but then as lovers that is always a delight to read.

I won't get into the plot because I don't want to give it away, but if you want to read something different than the ordinary, give Kaitlyn's books a try.

This book really took me by surprise. With the description on Goodreads I was expecting a smutty read with no real plot. I. Was. Wrong. This book was really good and fast paced that had me turning pages like the flash. The main character to my surprise was extremely smart, caring, logical and extremely strong minded. This book was not riddled with sex- although there were a few very descriptive scenes ;) - and actually focused on slavery, breeding and the desire to free on self from it and the lengths that many would choose. The cover and description doesn't leave much to be desired but I highly recommend it as it was a awesome, good fun and fist paced read.

I wanted to say something nice about this book. I really hoped it would be great. I was wrong. IT was wrong. Geez. The other wordly kidnapping simply didn't work. I mean...what part of a woman on her period and not having any sanitary supplies is sexy? I got to this point half way through the book and simply could not finish it. The main female character decided since she didn't have any supplies of the menstrual nature that they other females on the alien caged planet would accept this as normal. So the author goes on to drivel on about the blood plopping onto the ground. Sorry. I love vampire romances but this is just disgusting. The alien male Alpha lead made me nauseous. He is gold with rough scales on his arms that extend into ridges on this under fore arms. He showed no emotion other than lust and that was a stretch to understand. This author needs to go back to the drawing board and realize that this Genesis isn't the way to gain reader loyalty. Deviate from this formula.

Bri finds herself kidnapped by aliens. When she wakes up she finds out that she is not the only human female that has been abducted. After she ventures outside her prison she encounters alien males that are wearing the same slave collars as she and the other female prisoners. She soon comes to realize that the alien males have also been abducted from their planet and that the human females were brought in as breeders. Since she has no choice she accepts Kole and Dansk as lovers. She starts to care for them and helps plan to escape their slavers.

This book is a spicy futuristic romance novel. It explores acceptance of different races, language barriers and how difficult situations can be overcome when people band together.

This was a very interesting erotic scifi capture fantasy, unfortunately told in a rather uninteresting way. I agree with several of the previous reviewers, that the story lagged after the first half. I think the reason for this is that so much of the story was told as internal thoughts - particularly those of the heroine, Bri. I also had a difficult time adjusting to the writing style, but I'm still not sure if it is a case of style or errors in writing mechanics. At times it seemed that words were missing, or incorrect words used. At other times I felt I must have missed entire sentences, when 1 plus 1 equaled "U". Several "huh?" moments on my part, luckily not too many.

The opening is an almost stereotypical alien abduction scene, when Bri is caught alone on a dark country road while driving in an unfamiliar area. From there, the action is tense and exciting as Bri tries to come to grips with what has happened to her. Eventually she finds herself in an elaborately designed habitat for those captured as slaves - herself included. The aliens were particularly well done in my opinion, both those that were the slavers and those that were fellow slaves. The alien slavers were cold, calculating, amoral and suitably creepy. The alien slaves were hunky and big all over, so that was fun! ;)

Again, a great story! Bri is a practical woman who uses common sense and observation to figure out where she is, why she is there, and what she can do about it. What became annoying to me was, for all her common sense, Bri continually jumped to the worst possible conclusions when trying to interpret the intentions of her fellow slaves. Generally she was able to reach the correct conclusion fairly quickly, but it became annoying when she continued to make the same mistake. To be fair she was not someone with a great deal of experience in personal relationships, but after awhile I think she would have learned not to keep making the same negative leaps.

My only other complaint about the story was the end came quickly and rather too conveniently. I was not quite clear on what exactly happened to be honest.

So 4 and a half stars for a great story, 2 and a half for writing style and story telling. Yes, I know that doesn't average to 4 stars - but I really liked the story..... ;P

Not Like Others

I have read every O'Connor book. I enjoyed most of them and have read them several times. This one is the exception. Similar to the other alien capture books, Bri the heroine is taken and kept most of the book in an alien ship with large alien males and other Earth women. Unlike her other novels this heroine goes through a forced abortion and her love interest is forced to mate with another Earth female. Not my recipe for an interesting or fun alien romance. I want to be taken on an uplifting adventure as I was with the other books. This book was too depressing for me.

I read the second of this series first. The heroine in this book was very strong and I really liked her. Unlike in the other book, the heroine here tries to find out about the aliens. Instead of assuming they think like humans, she askes questions. The sci fi element of the story is very strong. The romance, not so much. It was almost not there. The book should have been twice as long. Just when they threw off the yolk of the alien oppressors and it was time to deal with the relationship aspect, she basically said "and they lived happily ever after." There were some sex scenes, not a lot if you're thinking this is erotica it isn't. It was vaguely a menage story but that was slighted as well. I'm not talking about sex scenes but rather the 3 of them working things out. She told you enough to let you know that permanent menages were not the usual for any of the participants and then dropped the ball. One of the guys basically had a crush on the heroine and his emotions were not realistic at all. So good sci fi stuff, pretty lame romance stuff. This author usually does better at that part. Oh well, they can't all be winners every time.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked this book up on Amazon. I was intrigued by the concept, was pulled in by the sample, but the age of the work (from 2006) had me a bit hesitant about what I would find as I continued on. The few older ones I've read haven't been that amazing and tend to shy away from the sexy times.

Genesis did not disappoint and felt pretty fresh despite the fact it's almost 15 years old. It was so terrible in a lot of ways, but it was fun.

The story centers around Bri, an "almost 30" year old woman running a from-home business selling pre-prepped meal kits to busy working moms (years ahead of Blue Apron and similar services), who is driving home from a conference in the dead of night, freaking out, and gets abducted by aliens. Car and all. Shit goes sideways from there as she's entered into the creepiest habitat, and she tries to figure out exactly what they want from her. When finally forced outside into the main habitat, Bri discovers large, Hulk-like yellow alien males who look mostly human and gets creeped out by how intensely they stare at her, especially one.

Kole is the leader of his people, the few who remain of the Hirachi, an alien race that's been getting picked off by our lead Bad Aliens for generations to be used as slave labor in their mines. There's a problem: thanks to over-grazing by the BA, the Hirachi have adopted survival strategies that are now threatening to extinct their people, driving our BAs to start a forced breeding program to keep their labor supply strong. This backfires when the female Hirachi go rogue and sets the story line into motion. One day Kole sees a couple new small females in the enclosures opposite of the male's breeding pens, and he's quickly smitten with one. He almost immediately shadows the pair to try and learn their language so he can communicate with them and figure out why they're on the ship with them.

A lot of things happen, and just when it looks like it's going to be Bri and Kole after a round of breeding, O'Connor shakes things up and throws Bri in for a round of breeding with Dansk. Not going to lie, I'm a total Dansk fangirl, he was stupidly romantic and sweet. Forget Kole, stay with Dansk, girl.

Anywho. There's a lot of drama that happens at this point.

Eventually they arrive at the planet and things get even more interesting as the crew of female humans finally cohese and become a force to be reckoned with. The book ends with a HFN where Bri gets to have her cake and eat it too, and you know? Bri, Kole, Dansk, and Cory make a pretty adorable family. I can't hate on that. Good on her. The Hirachi have an interesting life cycle and culture that leads to some possibilities that take some time to get used to from a human perspective, and it's interesting to see how cross breeding with humans changes some of that. They're almost human, but if we had evolved from a different category of creatures.

I will leave this review with one of the worst and most odd lines I've ever read in a sex scene. I just. What on earth did I just read?!

He withdrew and pushed again, fighting his way inside of her like a salmon trying to swim upstream.

Now isn't that quite the image?

“Genesis (Enslaved, #1)“ by Kaitlyn O’Connor is a science-fiction romance erotica novel following a heroine that is kidnapped from Earth. She meets her love interests who are also captured by technologically advanced alien slavers.

The length of the story gives you the impression that this book is plot heavy, but this isn’t the case.
A lot of word count went towards stuff that could have been cut out. The actual plot doesn’t take up that much space. Many scenes were wasteful as they had little impact and didn’t accomplish much or went nowhere. Due to this, the story had very dull sections as the pace lost momentum. It was really only the beginning and the end that you could say were instrumental in the plot.

One of the positives, I did like that the heroine was developed to be average smart, resourceful, and someone the average person can relate to. I also liked that the author explored group dynamics in a stressful situation, but the execution didn’t meet my standards. Other characters were made to be bitchy solely for the purpose of antagonizing the heroine. Their conflict was as boring as a the trope high school clique melodrama, and it didn’t add to the story. Part of the issue was the author was explaining the reasons behind the jealousy and cattiness to the reader, and I felt like I was sitting at a dry psychology lecture hall. At this point, the story momentum stopped.

One of my other interpretations was that the romance itself didn’t feel organic. I was distinctly aware of the fact that the author had an agenda to make it happen. It felt forced and I wasn’t feeling it. Furthermore, I can barely remember the romance interests as I write this review a couple days later.

I think this author has much potential. It was creative and I liked the use of world-building. With the help of a great editor and heavy revision, this story could be elevated to a level “wow” factor. Unfortunately, it’s not close to it now.

This is going to be a hard review to write. I don't like to write bad reviews.

After seeing everyone else who loved this book I guess take what I say with a grain of salt.

The general synopsis of the book is earth females are taken and forced to breed with another race. (Like I said general)

The story moved way to slow, the Hirachi were easy to like but not well developed as characters. The sheloni are not really explained with any great details either. They are just kind of there hanging out in the background, you don't have a lot of interaction with them but you do with their "bots". Then you have the third set of aliens that pop in towards the end and honestly they are not explained at all. They are just accepted and there you go. The ending was extremely fast and honestly just fell kind of flat. I will read the second book to see if it improves over my impression of this one.

I guess my problem was that I was comparing this with other books of this genre that really just knock it out of the ballpark.

I loved Kaitlyn O'Connor's The Portal, so I looked to see if she had any books at the library. Nope. Then looked for cheap paperbacks, this is the first that came. The guy on the front is staring at the girl's boobs a little maniacally. Had to hide the book cover from the family.

Bri's abducted as a slave and meets Kole, another slave, after she's taken onto the ship. At first she's scared of Kole and he doesn't know what to make of her. Through some pretty horrible circumstances they learn to care for each other. Liked the ending. I'm planning on reading as many of this author's books I can get for a reasonable price.

This book was boring to me. At first I kind of liked it when I thought Bri and Kole had some chemistry. But when forced reproduction stepped in, I kind of disliked it. And then partners started getting switched, I disliked it even more, even though I knew it wasn't by choice. And I disliked the fact that Bri's "friend" was so ugly to her due to circumstances beyond her control.

This book was entirely too wordy for me. Most of it was descriptions, and Bri's thoughts. But the things she was thinking about (culture, evolution) were uninteresting. And the end. For me it was unsatisfactory.

Surprise and kind of abrupt ending

So..this book was different. O'Connor did a good job of building the worlds, I wish we could have gotten a little more insight into the bad guys. I was surprised they were enslaving all kinds of people for coral I was hoping it would be for lithium or something. After dragging out that middle section the ending felt abrupt. She got bother her men, really??? I was kind of hoping Dansk would find a sweetie of his own and they would have a blended family situation. But nope, ménage it is. I'll bite and buy the next though.

Hot Aliens

I really enjoyed Alien Enslaved, it was so different from anything I have read, I found the heroine Bri a very pragmatic sort, she definitely wasn't stupid and I loved the fact that her problem solving skills were of the make the best of the situation sort, Very refreshing. Kole and Dansk's were two very hot hirachi aliens so very different but oh so virile, can't blame Bri one bit for wanting both and little Cory what a sweetie, this was a very enjoyable tale.

The book was written well. Once again the author produced likeable characters. I felt the same way about this book than her other ones that I've read, the books good but it isn't absolutely amazing. There is something about her writing that makes you come back for more but there's still some parts to her book that were just not needed. It drags on a little. Not a bad read.

I really loved this.
Colour me surprised

What i loved about this is the author created a world that i absolutely loved. She delved into topics, made me think outside the box.

What i didn't like is the major over sharing of useless information. I skipped a lot of it.

I really loved this entire series and had really awesome laughs in book 3.

It's not always what you think it is and not always found where you expect it to be.

This was a good read and I look forward to more.

I hate rating low but it just wasn't my cup of tea. And thats not because of the story/plot per say, all though wouldn't have gone some of the ways she did. It was because the book was majority lived in the characters heads. There was hardly any dialogue. I could go through a chapter and not one piece of dialogue. It just wasn't the kind of book you can sink into, at least not for me.

I wanted more interaction between the characters. I hated the fact that I could still follow where the story was going even though I started to skim and jump paragraphs or even pages. I wanted to love this story so much but the way it was presented just didn't capture me. The story is basically that these aliens have kidnapped human women for breeding purposes with another hulk like alien species. There isn't really a relationship that forms between the two main characters (Bri and Kole) and we also in a sense have a "love triangle" with Bri, Kole and Dansk. They abort babies if they are girls. Its just really jarring to read. And then they get to their slave destination and we find out that Kole and Dansk's people are like another kind of "mere-people" and they are being slaved because the bad aliens want something under the body of water...

I like to look at books as a break from reality into the land of imagination. And this was just kind of like losing my bags before I got to my vacation and also contracted a bug while on the plane and got bit by a bug that made my face swell up and then get sunburned... It was a bad break. The hard topics that come up for me is: kidnapping, rape, assault, non-consensual aborting of a baby, and the fact that their is a lot of hostility between while trying to also escape...

The ending of the book was good. The love triangle is resolved and it does end in love. But I just wish the rest of the book had been as good as the ending.
