Where Discovery Sparks Imagination examines the early history of radio and electricity, presented via a marvelous collection of over 600 photographs of actual apparatus, many of which have never before been published. Beginning with the rise of electricity in the 17th century, the book follows a continuous thread of discovery and invention through electric motors, electric light, the telegraph, telephone and ultimately radio. Anyone who appreciates the amazing workmanship and artistry of old technology will love this book!
This is a book of beauty, as an electronics engineer and a science fiction fan I treat this as a fine wine, a perfect vintage. What we have here is a devine collection of electronic and electrical devices from the first days of discovery and invetion onwards. Perfectly designed equipment using rear woods, marquetry, carving of a quality that will never be seen again in mass-market plastic junk. I cannot believe that there is no entries for this book yet. Steampunk fans are you blind? If you think old technology is just sticking a few gears on, PAH! Beautifully photographed, an inspiration, so much so that the wife as promised to take me to the museum where all these wonders come from. Read this and find out why early science fiction was and is still cool.
Now if you would be so kind to excuse me, it's almost 1am and I really need to spend 30 minute with this and a cup of tea.
